Obituary: SAWYER. John M. Sawyer, 55, of Suffield, beloved husband of Patricia L. (Cygan) Sawyer passed away , 23, 2017 at Baystate Medical , Springfield, MA after a courageous battle with cancer. Born 19, 1962 in Chicopee, MA son of Shirley A. (Deslauriers) Sawyer of Chicopee and the late Raymond J. Sawyer. John graduated from Chicopee High School, Class of 1980. John was also an Eagle Scout. John continued his education at Westfield State University where he earned his degree in Criminal Justice. college, he worked with the University of Massachusetts State Police Mounted Patrol before returning to his hometown of Chicopee where he served as a police officer and was part of their dive team. John advanced his career and became a Trooper with the Connecticut State Police where he served over 20 years, having just retired on 1. He was assigned to Troop H, Hartford, Troop W Bradley International Airport and for the past 15 years in the Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit as a Detective. John was an Accelerant Detection Canine Handler of canines Lily and Sophie. He was an instructor for the Fire Marshal Pre-Certification Class, the Advanced Fire Investigation School and the Vehicle Fire Investigation School. He was a member and Certified Fire Investigator with the International Association of Arson Investigators. He was a member and Past President of the Connecticut Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators where he was awarded the Investigator of the Year Award and the Arnold Markle Award for Outstanding Service. John enjoyed woodworking, photography, scuba diving, bicycling, motorcycling, and playing his banjo. Besides his wife Patricia, he is survived by his two children, Bryan J. Sawyer and Rebekah L. Sawyer both of Suffield; two brothers, Raymond J. Sawyer, Jr. of Windsor Locks, Richard P. Sawyer and his wife, Deborah of Chicopee; a sister, Nancy A. Densmore and her husband, David of Chicopee; his nieces and nephews, Jeremy, Jennifer, Christina, Renee, and Brandon; his mother-in-law, Edna Cygan of Chicopee. His family will receive friends , 27, 2017 from 4-8 PM at Nicholson & Carmon , 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield. Obituary: George William Sawyer, Jr., 77, of East Lyme, Connecticut passed away on 23, 2015. He was born in the city of Camden, New Jersey on 18, 1938 the only child of the late Erwin and Eleanor Pfannenstein of Cape May, New Jersey. Mr. Sawyer is survived by his wife, Margaret Meg Sawyer and son, attorney Scott W. Sawyer of New London, Connecticut. He was predeceased by a daughter Jill Sawyer. George was the proud grandfather PopPop of Collin and Cora Sawyer, both of New London/Stonington. He is also survived by sister and brother-in-law Gerie and John Piganell and brother and sister-in-law Harry and Lucy Kinney as well as numerous nieces and nephews. George was a United States Army veteran and received a bachelor of science from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. For 30 years, he worked with the Sears Roebuck & as a controller in the New London, Connecticut store and eventually retired after a decade as the New York Regional Systems Manager. He was an owner and board member of Lyme Shores Tennis and Conditioning , East Lyme, Connecticut as well as served as a board member of the former New London Country Club. For many years, he was a dedicated volunteer hearing and deciding ethical complaints as the non-lawyer member of the statewide Grievance Panel in Middletown, Connecticut. George so enjoyed his involvement in the arts as a member of the East Lyme Arts Council Chorus Gilbert and Sullivan Productions, Lyme Village Voices and the East Lyme Players. His true love was attending and supporting the athletic endeavors of his wife, kids and grandkids. His voice and spot on commentary could be heard above all others. Over the span of 45 years, he never missed a ec, junior high, high school, college, summer league, regional or national sporting event in which a family member participated. His physical absence in this regard will be palpable while his presence and support will continue on. George, husband, dad, PopPop, son, son-in-law, brother-in-law, friend and boss was known for his sense of humor, storytelling and making people laugh. Above all, he was an honest, good and kind man loved and admired by all. Evening calling hours at the Neilan & Sons , 48 Grand Street, Niantic, Connecticut are , 28, 2015 from 6:00-8:00. Obituary: Janina (Stanczykiewicz) Sawrej passed away peacefully on , at New Britain General Hospital, after a short illness. Janina was born in Lowczowek, Poland where she resided until taken to Germany as forced labor during WWII. She remained in Germany until emigrating to the US in 1961. While in Germany, after the war, she was a waitress on a US military base as well as a kindergarten teacher in the barracks where she lived, and she also obtained a seamstress certificate. It was also in Germany where she married her husband and had her daughter. In the US, Janina worked at precision wiring at Kalart in Plainville, and various other smaller enterprises in New Britain. She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church in New Britain, and also found time to be part of the ARKA organization at Holy Cross Church in New Britain. Janina loved all social gatherings especially with her family. She also enjoyed traveling, her jigsaw puzzles and a good political debate, and most of all she loved spending time on the beach at Hammonasset. Janina is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Wladyslaw Sawrej. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Lucy Sawrej of Newington, and her close family: sister, Maria Marszalek of New Britain, her nieces (Marias daughters) Alicija and her husband Jurek Urbanowicz, of Burlington, and Asia Szychowski and her daughter , Kasia (Jasias grandniece) and her husband Stuart Dusenberry of Greenfield, Mass. She is also survived by her sisters Sabina Pachocka of Farmington and Zofia Kosieradzka of New Britain, as well as Brothers Jan Stanczykiewicz of Plainville, and Antoni and his wife Barbara Stanczykiewicz of Poland along with many nieces and nephews. Services will be on , 13, 2014 at 9:30 AM at the New Britain Memorial/Sagarino , 444 Farmington Ave. New Britain, followed by the funeral liturgy at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 158 Broad St. New Britain. Obituary: Stanislawa Sawko, 79, of New Britain, passed away peacefully on May 26th, 2011 at Bojnowski Manor, with her loving sister by her side. She was born 29th, 1931 in Poland, to the late Franciszek and Rozalia Sawko. Stasia as she was called, made her home in New Britain for the past 39 years. She was employed by the Budney Co. retiring in 1997. A proud Catholic, she was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. Close to her mother, she cared for her in her later years. Devoted to her family, especially her nieces and nephew, she was always there to offer her love and support and her incredible ability to fix anything. A talented seamstress, she enjoyed knitting and sewing for her friends and family. Stasia had a wonderful sense of humor, she loved making people laugh. She will be most remembered for her kindness and energy for life. Obituary: William Bill Sawka, 80, of Windsor, beloved husband to Leona E. Sawka, passed away at home on 6, 2015 while surrounded by his family. Bill was born on 7, 1935 in Hartford, son of the late Alexander Sawka and Mary Baresyszyn. He grew up in Windsor, and was the youngest of nine siblings. He enlisted in the US Army after graduating from Windsor High School, and then went on to earn his degree in engineering, working for several companies including Kaman, Sikorsky, and Pratt & Whitney. In later years Bill worked as a private consultant for other aerospace companies. retirement, Bill enjoyed fishing, woodworking, visiting the beach in Rhode Island, and spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and was also a member of St. Casimirs Lithuanian Society in Poquonock. Bill was a kind, caring, and fun loving person who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He leaves to treasure his memory, his wife of almost 52 years, Leona, and three children, Bill Sawka and his wife Carol of Windsor, Dan Sawka of Durham, and MaryLee Sawka and Jeff Grey of Wake Forest, NC; a sister, Alice Chudecki and her husband Stanley of Rhode Island; eight grandchildren, Ken, Alane, Brian, Alan, Christian, Cate, Kristen, and Molly; two great grandchildren, Sophia and John William, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bills family gives thanks and appreciation to Hartford care at Hospice , and especially to nurse Lynn Andrews, for all her care and support. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on , 9th at 10am, at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 53 Capitol Ave, in Hartford, with military honors and burial to follow at Windsor Veterans , Windsor. Friends may call at the church on from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. prior to the service.
