Obituary: Richard [Dick] Sutherland 21, 1924 - 22 2015 Richard Jay Sutherland [Dick] was born in Shenandoah Iowa 21 1924 to Edna and Jay Sutherland. Dick graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1942. His family moved to Colorado Springs looking for work and Dick joined the US Navy in 1943. Dick and Mary [ Bunny] Aitken from Colorado Springs were married May 3rd 1945 while Dick was on leave from the Navy. He joined the Colorado Springs Police force for nine years. Dick enjoyed sports, hunting & fishing in his younger years. becoming a life member of the elks lodge he was honored to be the exalted ruler of the BPOE 309 Elks lodge in Colorado Springs from 1970-1971. He retired from General Adjustment Bureau working as a agent for in insurance claims for 31 years. He leaves behind sister Doris Manley and brother Jim Sutherland ;His two sons Jack Sutherland and wife [Pat] of Port Townsend Washington and Mark Sutherland who recently married Virginia Copperthite. Also 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and lots of nieces and nephews. He was married 69 years to Bunny who passed away 7 months ago. Cremation has taken place. Dick will be laid to rest at Shrine of Remembrance. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the PBO Elks charity or Pikes Peak Hospice. are under the direction of Swan-Law Directors. |

Obituary: Mary A.Bunny Sutherland , beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on 24, 2014 at home with family . She was born 5, 1925 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Mary E. and William R. Aitken. Bunny graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1943. She married Richard J. Sutherland in 1945. She was talented and enjoyed oil painting and stitchery part time. She was past president of B.P.O.E Elks Lodge 309 and life member of the ladies auxiliary. Family and friends were important in her life. Her laughter and sense of humor and unconditional love for her family and friends will be greatly missed. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, devoted husband of 69 years Richard; loving children, Jack Sutherland [Patsy] of Port Townsend, WA., Mark Sutherland of Colorado Springs, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be on 2nd, 2014 at 11:00 am at Swan Law Mortuary. Bunny will be laid to rest at Shrine of Remembrance. She was born in Lawrence, Kansas on 17th, 1957 and She was baptized at Williamsburg Methodist Church in Williamsburg, Kansas. She graduated from East High School in Denver, Colorado in 1975, and then attended Colorado Mountain . She was married to Larry Schuckenbrock from 1977 to 1979. She was married to Roger Brix from 1987 to 1994. Linda worked in several fields, but was always involved in caregiving of both people and animals. She had a passion for gardening, animals, dancing, listening to music, hrifting (finding special treasures for loved ones), going to community events and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her sons Dustin Schuckenbrock (Jenn) and Jesse Brix (Tawni), her grandchildren Melanie and Emma Schuckenbrock, her mother Kris Bateman, her father Bob Sutherland (Judy), her brothers Mike Sutherland (Sherry) and Brad Fowlkes, her sister Lori Underwood (Scott), her niece Haley Underwood, her nephews Joshua Hime, Dustin Stalcup (Lisa) and Luke Sutherland and her beloved pets Opie and Ebony. Obituary: Herbert Lyle Sutherland 12, 1925 ~ 28, 2015 Herbert Lyle Sutherland died , 28, 2015 at a rehab center in Colorado Springs. He was undergoing rehabilitation after experiencing a heart attack. Herb was born 12, 1925 in Ottawa, KS. He was one of four children born to Leslie Raymond Sutherland and Mary Lorena (Haverty) Sutherland. Herb came to a saving knowledge of Christ as a boy while attending church with his mother. He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1934 and attended Ottawa University, where he majored in math. Later he joined the Navy and was trained to repair the top secret Norden bombsight. Herbs father had always encouraged his boys to work for the railroad, carrying on a family tradition. In 1947 Herb went to Alaska and worked for 4 years as a brakeman for the Alaskan Railroad. There he met and fell in love with Charlotte Vivian Johnson of St. Paul, MN. The two were married 13, 1949, and enjoyed 65 years together until Charlottes death last . Herb has lived in Colorado since 1952 where he worked for 31 years for Sundstrand Corp. He and Charlotte reared 7 children together. were long time members of Adams City Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and school teacher. Most recently he has been a member of Light House Baptist Church in Colorado Springs. He had a strong and abiding faith, and a heart for evangelism. Always the example of a faithful, Christian husband, father and grandfather for his family. Herb is preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, L. Bernard Sutherland, sister Myra Sutherland Howell. He is survived by his sister, Vera Sutherland Surface of Overland, KS, 7 children and their spouses, Gwen & Dan Gee of Engelwood, CO, Fred & Eleanor Sutherland of Brighton, CO, Brian & Brenda Sutherland of Turlock, CA, Ray & Robin Sutherland of Falcon, CO, Ned & Marilou Sutherland of Russiaville, IN, Ted & Marlene Sutherland of Golden, CO, Daniel & Cindy of Colorado Springs, 29 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. |
