Obituary: Richard H. Stienmier Dr. Richard Harold Stienmier (Colonel, US Army, Retired), 79, of Castle Rock died peacefully in his home 16, 2015. He was born on 24, 1936 in Fort Collins to Harold and Madeline Stienmier and was a fourth-generation Coloradan. Dr. Stienmier had been engaged in the practice of Medicine for 50 years, having graduated from the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine in , 1961. He received a B.A. Cum Laude from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He completed his internship at Cincinnati General Hospital in 1962, later receiving training as an anatomic and clinical pathologist at Fitzsimons Army Medical . He was a practicing pathologist from 1968 to 2004 and was Board Certified in Anatomic, Clinical and Forensic Pathology. Dr. Stienmier entered active duty with the United States Army as a Captain in 1962 and retired as a 20-year Veteran after achieving the rank of Colonel in 1982. His assignments with the Army Medical Corps included service as a general medical officer at Blue Grass Army Depot in Kentucky (1962-64), as a resident in pathology at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver (1964-68), as the Chief of Pathology at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri (1968-69) and as Chief of Anatomic Pathology and later as Chief of Clinical Pathology at Letterman Army Medical in San Francisco (1970-72). He received fellowship training in research methods at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (1969), was Chief of the Pathology Department at William Beaumont Army Hospital (1972-1977), and served as commander of the 10th Army Medical Laboratory in Laundstuhl, Germany (1977-80) as well as chief consultant of pathology and blood banking for the U.S. Army in Europe. He returned to the U.S. to be Chief of Pathology at the hospital at Ft. Carson for 2 years prior to his retirement on 31, 1982. Among his decorations: the Soldiers Medal (received in 1981 for exceptional heroism during the rescue of four people whose small plane crashed in a blizzard on Christmas Eve near Buena Vista), the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal. Following his retirement, Dr. Stienmier practiced Pathology in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, St. Frances Hospital in Colorado Springs, and the Hospitals of the Porter system in Denver. He was a Deputy Coroner for El Paso (1983-90) and was President of the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists (1988-89). His special interests in pathology included blood banking, laboratory computerization, and forensic pathology. Dr. Stienmier was a Fellow of the of American Pathologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, as well as certified by the American Board of Pathology. He belonged to the Colorado Medical Society, the Arapahoe Medical Society, the Colorado Society of Clinical Pathologists, the Flying Physicians, the Society of Military Surgeons of the United States, Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. He was an avid skier, mountain climber, and participated in mountain search and rescue (as a member of the El Paso Search and Rescue Group 1980-92). He also loved flying (holding a Commercial/Instrument License with over 1,000 flying hours), his amateur radios, computers, genealogy and photography. He worked as a hard-rock miner to pay for college, and grew up working his grandmothers Apple Orchard in Canyon City, Colorado. Richard was a Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of Al Kaly Shriners, Knights Templar and a member of the ancient and accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, 33rd degree KCCH, member of Tejon Lodge 104 in Colorado Springs. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Saundra Kay (Young) Stienmier and is survived by four devoted children: Richard Bruce Stienmier of Castle Rock, Susan Irene Best of North Carolina, Julia Theresa Murray of Virginia (married to Lt. Col. Joseph Murray), Laura Stienmier Teal of Castle Rock (married to George Patrick Teal) and 7 grandchildren: Laurel Kay Teal, Joseph Bruce Murray, Hellen Alicia Murray, George Richard Teal, Richard Garrison Murray, Christian Stienmier Murray, and Ryan Richard Stienmier. His son - and three grandchildren - bore his name; he was the treasured and respected patriarch of his family. He will also be missed by his younger brother and sister, Roy Stienmier (Fort Collins) and Jane Gilman (Boulder), nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends and neighbors. Richard will be laid to rest with his wife, Saundra, at the Chapel of Our Savior in Colorado Springs. Before passing, when asked how he wished to be remembered, he wrote: I lead an interesting and challenging life and tried to help others - my family, friends and co-workers - to do the same. Masonic Services and Graveside Internment will be in held in the summer of 2016. Announcements will be made via Richards memorial page on the Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson website. Obituary: Frederick Paul Stieber aka Fritz and Fred passed away 23rd at Covenant Village in Westminster Colorado under the care of Hospice of Denver, and the exceptional staff at Covenant Village. He was 85 years old. He was born 30, 1931 to Edward and Mary (Salter) Stieber in Brighton, Colorado. Fred attended school in Wattenburg Colorado until a farming accident took part of his left hand. He married the love of his life Rosalie Wethington in 1953 in Platteville, Colorado. had 3 children, Kenneth, and twins Jannette and Annette, both under 3 lbs. Annette survived for 3 months. Rosalie preceded him in death in 1999. He continued farming and working full time at various jobs until moving to Denver in 1968. He worked for International Harvester for 16 years followed by Midwest Transit, and retired in 1993. Fred was a jack of all trades and master of many. He could fix anything and did a lot of "fixin" everywhere he went. Together Fred and Rosalie also worked for St. Mark Catholic Church for many years. He was a life member of the Elks BPOE 2227 and the Knights of Columbus, and frequented the American Legion Post 161 for many years. Fred is survived by son Ken of Thornton and daughter Jan ( Dean) Quinton of Rock Springs, Wyoming; granddaughter Jessica Stein and great granddaughter Isabella Stein of Reliance, Wyoming; sister Barbara (Bill) Tome of Florida; and several sister/brother in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by parents, Ed and Mary, wife Rosalie, daughter Annette, brothers, Jim, Tom, Don and Rich, and sister Eileen Parreco. A Visitation will be held , 31, 2017, 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Olinger Highland Mortuary Chapel, 10201 Grant Street,Thornton, CO 80229 with a Recitation of the Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be , 1, 2017, 10:00 am at St. Mark Catholic Church, 3141 W. 96th Ave. Westminster, CO 80031. Casual attire for all services are requested by the family.
