Obituary: A.B. Smith, Jr., of Denver, Colorado, was born in Hastings, Nebraska on 18, 1923 and died on 17, 2016 at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lavonne Helen Smith; his parents; three brothers; and four sisters. A.B. , known by most people as Junior, truly enjoyed sports. As a teenager, he won the Golden Gloves in the feather weight boxing class. He was the quarterback on the High School football team. He was the first All-American football player out of William Smith High School graduating in 1942. He was an original Broncos supporter and fan having purchased tickets with family members at Mile High Stadium. He supported the team down to the clothes he wore. A.B. worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 30 years before he retired. There was nothing that he would not do for a friend, or even for a stranger in need. He was incredibly loyal not only to his friends but especially his family. He loved spending time with his ever growing family. Having grown up in a family of 14 children, he had strong family values and always remained very family oriented. Something A.B. will always be remembered for was his strong opinions, but mostly his wonderful sense of humor. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Phyllis Smith; children, Sandy Cox (husband, Dave), LeAnn Long, and Bill Smith (wife, Amy); step-children, Tim Reynolds (wife, Gail), and Dee Buffington (husband, Allen); 21 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; two brothers; and four sisters. services will be held , 23, 2016 at 11:00am, at Olinger Hampden Mortuary, 8600 East Hampden Avenue, Denver, Colorado. A visitation hour will be available starting at 10:00am. A reception will be held at the mortuary following the services. Burial will follow the reception at Olinger Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, 19600 East Smith Road, Aurora, Colorado. |

Obituary: On 1, 2015, the Lord brought home His good and faithful servant, William Leonard Smit. Bill was born on , 17, 1945, in Barneveldt, Netherlands. WWII, the family moved to America, through Ellis Island. settled in Salt Lake City, UT, when Bill was 6 years old. As a teenager and after the loss of his father, the family moved to Denver where they remained. In 1968, he met Constance Brune (Connie) at a friend's home the night after she arrived in Denver. were married in of 1971, and had three daughters; Amy Lynn, Julie Mary, and Rebecca Lenore (Becki). retiring from a career in electrical sales, Bill devoted his life, his time and his energy touching so many lives, locally and internationally, for the glory of the God he loved and served. He was a valued and contributing member of 1st Christian Reformed Church for over 40 years. Through his love for music, golf, reading and service, Bill made a difference every day of his life. If you knew him, he loved you and you knew a man who was the reflection of God's love on this earth. Those left behind, in hopeful anticipation of the resurrection, are his beloved wife, Connie, and children, Amy (David), Julie (Eric), and Becki (Josh), as well as his precious grandchildren; Keenan and Avery, and Wyatt, Logan, Luke and Adelyn. He is also survived by his siblings Pete (Marie), Ina, Joy, Cal (Vonnie). He was preceded by his parents and older brother Lee. We grieve the loss of the husband, father and brother we loved so dearly but we know weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, 5, 2015 at First Christian Reformed Church, 1814 S. Emerson St, Denver, CO 80210. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Living Waters, World Renew - Disaster Relief Services, Volunteers in Action or Round Up Ministries. |
