Obituary: Vince was born on 1, 1935 to Joe and Frana Sunjka in the small fishing town of Zablace, Croatia. Joe, Frana, and their elder daughter, Ljubica Violet, lived quietly with young Vince until Joe decided it was best to relocate to the United States, just prior to the outbreak of WWII. While Joe worked hard in America to make enough money to send for his family, Vince and Violet did what they could to get by in a war-torn Europe. Early on, the two befriended Milena Millie Dadich, Vinces future wife. The two met in the village at the age of 7 and grew close until the time came for Vince and his family to depart. Immigrants in a new world, Frana, Violet, and Vince did their best along with Joe to achieve the American Dream becoming successful by working hard. Vince was a dedicated student at San Pedro High School, even holding down a job and acting as man of the household when his father was away for work. Eventually Vinces sweetheart, Millie, joined him in America with her family and the two were married in 1956 after graduating from high school. Shortly after they welcomed 3 children, Larry, Elayne, and Renee. Vince became a Longshoreman and eventually a Foreman working in the Los Angeles Harbor for more than 38 years. He was a proud lifelong union member, acting as a mentor over the years to many of his brothers in the ILWU Local 94. Also a proud member of the Dalmatian-American Club and Benevolent Order of the Elks, Vince enjoyed playing cards and bocce ball with many close friends and family in his spare time. In his retirement, Vince, along with his wife Millie, sister Violet, and brother-in-law, Steve, frequented casinos throughout Southern California, Nevada, the Southern States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. Vince was a thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Celebrating 58 years of marriage this year, Vince leaves a loving legacy behind through his wife, Millie, sister, Violet, brother-in-law Steve, children Larry, Elayne, Renee (Bo), granddaughter Milena, nieces and nephew, Linda, Rosemary (Bobby), and Steve Jr., great-niece and great-nephew, Nicole and Bobby Jr., aunts, Ljubica Lastavica and Rose Sunjka, caregiver, Maria Meza, and devoted dog, ZsaZsa-Belle.
