Obituary: Dr. Donald Wayne Stewart, DVM age 75 of Gadsden, passed away , 16, 2015. The funeral service will be 2:00 PM, , 19, 2015 at Rainbow City First United Methodist Church. Reverend Lynn Diamond will be officiating. The burial will be at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the funeral. Dr. Stewart was born in Birmingham, AL 7, 1939. He graduated from Hewitt- Trussville High School in 1957. In 1963 Dr. Stewart graduated from Auburn University where he attended Veterinarian School. He was a part of the Army Veterinary Corps from 1963- 1968 and traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and The Middle East. Dr. Stewart worked for the USDA from 1968- 1972. He practiced his profession in Rainbow City from 1972- 1979 and then practiced in East Gadsden from 1980- 2008 when he retired. Aside from his work, he had a love for ballroom dancing. Dr. Stewart was preceded in death by his daughter, Lorna Stewart Usrey. Survivors include his wife, Rachel Stewart; children, Donna Stewart, Brent Stewart; grandchildren, Christopher Stewart, Amber, Crystal, and Lauren Usrey; brother, Kenneth (Kathy) McDaniel; and sister, Susan (Larry) Latta. The family would like to give a special thanks to Regional Medical doctors and nursing staff, and all other employees especially the wonderful smiling and kind housekeeping and food service staff. |

Obituary: On 19, 2016, just 2 days after celebrating her 87th birthday, Dixie McGhee Grigsby Stewart left this world to celebrate her heavenly birthday in the presence of her Lord and Savior. We mourn her passing but rejoice in the knowledge that she is at peace with all her loved ones who have gone before her. She spoke of these family and friends often and longed for the day that they be reunited. What a reunion it must have been! Mrs. Stewart was born in Chattanooga, TN, on 15th, 1929 to Luther Napoleon and Anna Gertrude McGhee Grigsby. As a young girl, she desired to do all she could for the American troops during World War II, so she lied about her age and rode a train every day to work at a munitions factory. Dixie was even awarded a commendation from President Roosevelt for her service in the war effort. As an adult her resilience and drive would be evident again when raising her four children after her husbands passing. She began her decades-long career as a waitress and fixture at the West Gadsden Cafe, creating loving friendships with so many of Gadsdens citizens. She was also a longtime member of Dwight Baptist Church, and more recently a member of New Beginnings Community Church. In addition to her parents, Dixie is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Ralph Stewart, and her siblings James W. Grigsby, Grace Gramling, Jane Kennelly, AnnaBelle Pogue, and Mae White. She is survived by her sister Patsy (Bill) Bowers, and children Jerry (Ella Ruth) Stewart, Terry (Brenda) Stewart, Elizabeth (Gary) Ashley, and Mary Jane (Michael) Anderson. In addition to these loved ones are 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Dixie McGhee Grigsby Stewart led a life full of love and laughter. She will be remembered as a woman who could make the best chicken and dumplings youve ever tasted and a german chocolate cake to boot. She had an enormous heart for helping others and a spirit to get you through anything. We will love and miss her dearly and look forward to our own heavenly reunion with our Mother, Sister, Nana, and friend. To God be the Glory. The service is being lovingly provided by Dr. R. Gary Ashley. Visitation will be held at Collier-Butler 22 from 10:30-12:30, with the service to follow at 12:30. Graveside service immediately following at Crestwood . |

Obituary: Daniel Lucius Stewart, age 68, of Tuscaloosa, died 4, 2011. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Heritage Chapel with Rev. LaDon Brackin officiating. Cooper and Richard M. Stewart; step-father, DeLoyd Cooper; and grandson, Benjamin J. Stewart. Dan was a business graduate of U of A. He retired as an insurance underwriter having worked in Birmingham and Atlanta. He was also retired from the Alabama National Guard as a Special Forces Paratrooper with over 100 jumps. Dan was a person of many interests and talents. He was a lover of music and travel. He was knowledgeable in history and active in his high school reunion group. He programmed websites for that group and for the 275th Field Artillery Unit. Dan earned a black belt in Judo and won many trophies in tournaments. Dan loved his family and delighted in being a grandfather to grandson, Ben. For the last few years, Dan was lovingly cared for at LaRocca . Pallbearers will be family members. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Christopher Laganke, the staff of LaRocca , and Tuscaloosa High School class of 1961.
