Obituary: William H. Simpson, M.D. passed away at his home on 12, 2015. He was born 15, 1917 in Stevenson, Alabama. He was the son on Hayden Simpson and Mabel Tally Simpson, both of whose families were early settlers of the area. Dr. Simpson is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Moore Simpson, his brother Samuel Simpson, M.D. of Florida, his niece Leigh Thomas of Dothan, Alabama, his nephew Henry Simpson of Atlanta, Georgia, sister-in-law Ruth Strickland of Palatine, Illinois, and several great nephews. He is also survived by many close friends, neighbors, and colleagues to whom he was unfailingly kind and helpful. As a boy growing up in Stevenson, he was an outstanding scholar and athlete. He was an avid tennis player and swimmer and enjoyed remembering the occasion when he and two friends jumped into the Tennessee River at Chattanooga, swimming home to Stevenson. He remained a jogger for most of his life and rode his stationary bike daily until this past year. Dr. Simpson graduated from Vanderbilt University, attended his first two years of medical school at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. He then transferred to Harvard University School of Medicine, where he finished third in his very large medical school class. his studies, he served an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. He then severed in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Montgomery at Maxwell Air Force Base. There, he met his beloved wife, who was working as a dietitian at the VA Hospital. were devoted to one another, shared a passion for traveling, gardening, voracious reading, and caring for and about others. happily shared their home for many years, caring for his mother and her father. Dr. Simpson belonged to many professional organizations and practiced medicine in Gadsden for thirty-five years. He was beloved by his patients, admired by his colleagues, and respected by all who knew him. He was a benefactor to innumerable charities, has a Habitat for Humanity home named in his honor, and after his retirement was a frequent visitor to friends who were ill or homebound. He also daily fed the countless birds who came to know that there was food and water for them at the Simpson home. Dr. Simpson remained intellectually engaged all the days of his life, enjoyed regular visitors and avidly followed sports. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Holy Comforter, where the Simpsons have been longtime members, on , 19th at 10:00 a.m.. A reception in the Great Hall of the Church will follow the service. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Doctors Tom Corley and Ralph Wesley, as well as to their faithful caretakers, Lisa Murphy, Linda Hammond, Sheryl Post, Rita Carmack, Cheryl Pate, Charlene Powell, Alacare nurse Kelly Usry, and longtime housekeeper Beverly Hammond. In addition, the family wishes to express special thanks to Becky Rhodes, attorney James Turnbach, Claudia Jermyn, Barbara and Jack Roberts, and Betty Frantz. Obituary: SIMPSON, Samuel Ellis Jr. ("TURTLE"), 67, passed away on 19, 2017 after an extended illness. He was born on 24, 1949. He attended Robert E. Lee High School and played in the marching band, he then attended Alexander City State Jr. Community . He loved NASCAR racing and the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was a Real Estate Agent with Rossi Realty for the past 25 years and entrepreneur of The Potion Parlor in Columbia, Missouri for 15 years. He was an active member of the YMCA Downtown for over 10 years participating in the Runner Club, Walking Club, and Over 300 Mile Club. He was preceded in death by his partner, Rhonwyn Ray; father, Samuel Ellis Simpson, Sr.; mother, Imogene B. Simpson; nephew, Daniel Allen Dunaway; grandparents Thomas and Laura Brightwell and James and Sudie Simpson. He is survived by two sisters, Patsy Sanchez and Kathy Powell (Bill), both of Montgomery, AL; brother Michael Simpson (Darlene), of Tucson, Arizona; uncle, William J. Brightwell; and nieces and nephews, Christopher Dunaway, Christina Sanchez, Jonathan Simpson, Aaron Simpson, Adam Simpson, Jared Simpson, Hannah Sanchez, Elizabeth Sanchez, Daniel Dunaway, Dyllan Dunaway, Audrey Simpson, and Jayde Nix. Obituary: SIMPSON It is with a heavy heart that the family of Ruth M. Simpson announces her passing at 89 years of age. She is survived by her husband of 66 years Dr. William H. Simpson, daughters Jan Simpson and Dana Pollock, son Bruce Simpson, six grandchildren, Uriah, Seth, Miah, and Daniel Pollock, Clint and Cassandra Simpson, four great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Chinn and Mrs. Jean Brown who reside in Louisville, Kentucky. Ruth fell outside her beloved home on 2nd and unfortunately suffered a fatal head injury. She was putting water out for her 5 raccoons, 3 opossums, and various cats that came by for a visit. She loved all her animals especially her 2 cats, Jack and Jill. Ruth was an award winning artist and found a way to channel her love of art. She and several friends founded The Art Patrons League. Ruth managed the Little Art Gallery Gift Shop for The Art Patrons League, which was downtown next to the Fire Station Museum. then created what would eventually become one of the premier art shows, The Outdoor Arts and Crafts Show for local artists, which expanded to artist across the country. Ruth ran The Art Patrons League booth at the Show where she became known as the paper flower lady. She also used her artistic talents for various fund raising projects for the Mobile Museum of Art. Along the way The Art Patrons League decided to put on a Christmas Tree exhibit at the Museum. Ruth was asked to create a tree and she chose a Mexican Christmas Tree. It was comprised Eyes of God, a Paper Mache' Donkey Piñata, Paper Flowers, and topped with a large Macramé Serape and Eye of God, which were hand made by Ruth. Every year Ruth designed a Christmas Card to send to all of her and William's friends and family. This was another way for Ruth to express her artistic talents except this time instead of using oil paint and canvas Ruth used the computer. Ruth's home, that she designed, also reflects her great love of art from ceramics, paintings, and glass work from local and artists across the country as well as her own art. Ruth was a beautiful woman and was loved by all her knew her. She will be sorely missed by her family. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Mobile Museum of Art or World Wildlife Fund.
