Mr. Simpson was born 22, 1930 in Willard, Kansas. He is the son of the late Cary Franklin Simpsn and Margeret Mix Simpson. He served his country in the U.S. Army with 22 years of service to include the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, was a life member of the V.F.W. and was methodist by faith. Survivors include his three sons, Craig Alan Simpson, David Kent Simpson (Roxy), Mark Duane Simpson (Delores) all of Seale, AL, two daughters, Gayle Lynn Estes (Johnny) Okee, FL, Cheryl Filisko (Robert) Brownstown, MI, step-children, Norman Haines of Seale, AL, Angela Lloyd (Curtis) , Kay Haines all of Phenix City, AL, brother, Thomas Russell Simpson (Norma), three sisters, Wilma Fay Kelly (Ron), Rova Lee Evatt, Mary Sue Mazzarella (Gerry) all of California, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren four step-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Obituary: Flora Simpson (95) passed away peacefully in her sleep on , 6, 2016, at Hatley in Clanton, Alabama, after an extended illness. Mrs. Simpson was born on 12/3/1920, along with her twin sister, Annie. She had 3 brother and 3 sisters. She lived a large portion of her life in Wylam and attended Wylam First Baptist Church. She lived for many years in the wood and Vestavia area, and was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church for most of those years. Mrs. Simpson retired from the Alabama Power after many years of faithful service. She was a secretary in the Presidents office when she retired and was very proud of her tenure there. Mrs. Simpson is survived by her two children, Sylvia Arnold (Glen), Richard Simpson, and her brother, Ben Eiland (Mary). Obituary: A memorial service will be held on , 25, 2017, at the Church of the Holy Comforter, Gadsden, Alabama, at 10:00 a.m. for Elizabeth Moore Simpson who passed away at her home on , 20, 2017. Reverend Carl M. Saxton, II will officiate. Elizabeth Moore Simpson was born in Adams , Iowa on 20, 1923. When she was 8 years of age the family returned to Missouri. Elizabeth lived an idyllic childhood on her family farm. Along with farm duties there were loving parents, a dear sister, caring aunts and uncles, cousins with whom to play and picnic, and bareback rides across the fields on her beloved horse, Cricket. All of her life, Elizabeth felt great affection for the farm and always believed it was one of the greatest gifts life gave to her. Her early education was in a one room school house where she was the only student in her grade through 8th grade. When it became time for high school, Elizabeth’s father transported her to Breckenridge by a horse drawn cart to board in the home of a local family through . She then attended Cottey and the University of Missouri graduating with honors with a degree in Economics. Later in adult life, she earned a master’s degree in nutrition at the University of Alabama, again with honors. As a very young woman, Elizabeth accepted the position as a dietician at the V.A. Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama. It was there she met William H. Simpson, M.D. married in 1947 and moved to Gadsden in 1954. celebrated 68 years of marriage. Dr. Simpson established his medical practice while Elizabeth enjoyed a long professional career as dietician at the Holy Name of Jesus Hospital in Gadsden. In addition, she had a great impact on many young lives as a nutrition instructor at the schools of nursing at Holy Name of Jesus Hospital and at Gadsden State Community . Elizabeth was a loving and devoted wife. She and Dr. Simpson shared life fully and with myriad interests. were avid readers and travelers, enjoyed skiing and tennis, attending plays and concerts, gardening, and rescuing and caring for innumerable cats. While enjoying intellectual pursuits she also donated much time, energy, and support to countless charities, local foundations, and her church. She daily fed and watered the many birds who came to call the Simpson yard home. She loved flowers and spent many contented hours in her greenhouse and gardens. She generously shared flowers, bulbs and seeds with all she knew. Elizabeth remained close to her sister and to her extended family all of her life. The bond with Ruth included a daily phone call and many letters and photographs over the years. She was also a kind and loyal friend and a true example of exemplary character. She was predeceased by her husband, William H. Simpson, M.D., her parents, Paul and Leta Moore, her brother-in-law, Charles Strickland, as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Strickland, of Palatine, Illinois, nieces Mary E. Woodward and Suzanne Neven, and nephew, David Strickland. The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation for the care and devotion provided by Beverly Hammond, Lisa Murphy, Linda Hammond, Charlene Powell, Sherry Arflack, Cheryl Pate, and Rita Carmack. The family also wishes to express gratitude to Elizabeth’s caring friends, Attorney James Turnbach, Becky Rhodes, Claudia Jermyn, Barbara and Jack Roberts, and Betty Frantz.
