Obituary: Captain Philip Nelson Searles, United States Navy, Retired, died 24, 2015 at the age of 92. He was born at the easternmost point of the United States in the lightkeeper's house at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec, Maine. graduating from the Maine Maritime Academy, he embarked upon a 30-year career in the United States Navy's Submarine Force, spanning World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was highly decorated and served in many locations throughout his career including New London, Connecticut, San Diego, California, Key West, Florida and Gosport, England. retiring from the Navy, he served as Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce in Clermont, Florida before his final retirement in 1984. At the time of his death, he resided at the Oaks on Parkwood retirement community in Bessemer, Alabama. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Edith Searles; his brother, Merville Searles; his sister, Ada Smith; and his loving wife of 57 years, Lillian Marie Searles. Survivors include his daughter, Suzanne Garner (Robert) of Pelham, Alabama; granddaughter, Jessica Johnson (Nathan) of Huntsville, Alabama; granddaughter, Abigail Garner of New York, New York; great-grandson, Eli Johnson of Huntsville; and numerous nephews and nieces. There was a private graveside service for Captain Searles, USN Ret. at Alabama National in Montevallo on 27, 2015. Reverend John Ray officiated. |

Obituary: Lulden Taylor Searcy, 93, of Jackson, passed away peacefully at her home 4, 2015. A homemaker, she delighted in her church, her family and friends and sewing for the community. Before moving to Jackson in 1964, she was very active in First Baptist Church of Childersburg where she was Director of Girls Auxilliary (GA’s). Upon moving to Jackson, she was equally involved in WMU at First Baptist at First Baptist Church. She was the proprietor of Lulden’s Shop in Jackson for many years. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Martin Eldred Searcy of Jackson; sons, Van (Andi) Searcy of Lillian, Lawton (Rhonda) Searcy of Baton Rouges, LA; six grandchildren, Mat (Chrystal) Searcy of Montgomery, Mitzi (Jon) Searcy Mannon of Knoxville, TN, Robert (Kellie) Searcy of Lafayette, LA, Eric Searcy of Baton Rouge, LA and Emileigh Searcy of Baton Rouge, LA, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Taylor and Ida Faulk Taylor; sister, Beatrice Taylor Allen and a brother, Ocie Taylor. services will be , 9, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Lathan in Jackson with the Rev. Tommy Gaillard officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. A private interment service will be conducted in Berrydale, FL with Lathan directing.
