Obituary: Lorene Joan (Mellergaard) SwedbergLorene Joan (Mellergaard) Swedberg passed away early in the morning of May 6, 2017 following surgery in Yakima, WA. She was born 9, 1926 in Ellensburg, WA to Laurence and Anna (Jacobsen) Mellergaard. She attended Damman School and graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1944. She loved working on the family ranch, The Circle Lazy H. She was active in 4-H and the Princess Patrol. She loved horses and riding. high school, Lorene attended Washington State University. She married Robert Swedberg on 16, 1947. She and Bob settled on their farm, up Naneum Road where they operated Kenandale Dairy. Lorene was a member of the Fairview makers, Kittitas Dairy wives, the First United Methodist Church, the International Order of Oddfellows Redbekah's, Fairview Grange and the Good Sam's Club. Lorene was also a founding member of the Silver Spurs precision riding group. She loved life and was a very giving, loving, hard-working and spiritual lady. Her pride and joy was her family, especially her eight grandchildren and most recently, three great-grandchildren. Lorene was also quite renowned for her cooking skill, both for family gatherings and for the summer hay crews who used to fight for a spot on the crew, just for a chance to eat on of her lunches. Lorene was an Angel sent to Earth. Her love was unconditional, as was her giving nature. She was selfless, always putting everyone before herself and her strength was endless. She was known for her "smile that would light up the entire room". Lorene was very spiritual and loved life, wanting to live as long as she could. She was a very strong woman and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Recently however, she stated that she was not afraid and was ready to see her daughter Nancy, who passed away 30, 1959. Lorene is now reunited with her family, as an Angel watching over us all! Lorene is survived by her husband of 70 years Robert (Bob), her brother Laurin Mellergaard of Ellensburg, sons Dale (Kathy) of Tonasket, Ken of Ellensburg, Ron (Teri) of Ellensburg, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 8 nieces and 10 nephews. Lorene was preceded in death by her daughter Nancy, her mother and father, sisters Dorothy Mills and Evelyn Gillard. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM May, 19, 2017 and also from 10-12noon, , May 20, 2017 at Steward and Williams Tribute . Celebration of life will be , May 20, 2017 at the Steward and Williams Chapel in Ellensburg, beginning at 1PM, burial will follow at the IOOF . A reception will follow at the First United Methodist Church. Donations may be made to Hospice Friends, 302 S. Main, Ellensburg.
