Obituary: William Frank Strunk, Sr., left this life to be with his Lord and eternal family on 11, 2012. He was the son of Edward R. and Rachael Mae Strunk, born 4, 1922 in Verona, Pennsylvania. Frank served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aircraft armorer, tow reel operator, and U.S. infantry in the Philippines and South Korea during World War II. He was a commander and life member of V. F. W., Post 7376, Saxonburg, Pennsylvania. Frank worked and retired from Pullman Standard in Butler, PA. as an electric arc welder of covered hopper and trailer train railroad cars for 30 years. He was one of the welders of the first stainless steel railroad car. Frank resided in Tieton for 12 years, owned and operated a small orchard, and worked for FMC/Agritech of Yakima. He then moved to Florida for several years and learned to play golf. He was known in Yakima as an avid fisherman and devout Christian. He enjoyed sharing woodworking skills with family, and sharing his love for fishing and playing the harmonica with his grandchildren. During the last few years of his life, he lived with sons and their families in VA and OR and most recently in assisted living near his daughter and family in Poulsbo, WA. Frank is survived by his first wife Geri Walters of Yakima; children Bob (Sandie) Strunk of Chesapeake VA; Jean (Gordon) Parke of Poulsbo, WA; Dick (Marcia) Strunk of Yakima; Don (Michele) Strunk of Springfield, OR., Elsas daughter Jena Paxton of Seattle, son John Reid of Yakima, 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Frank was preceded in death by his oldest son Bill, his second wife, Elsa Strunk, and her daughter Susie Weinman. For those of us able to be with him in the past week, we were blessed to have time to laugh, enjoy him, weep with one another, to share memories of our lives together, and to embrace his remaining moments of life. We extend our thanks and gratefulness to staff at Harrison Medical who cared for him and appreciated his joyful and thankful spirit. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. , 13, 2012 at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A Service will be 1:00 p.m. , 14th at Tieton Drive Bible Chapel, 4305 Tieton Dr., Yakima. Obituary: Keith & Keith YAKIMA - Monica Rosaland Strunk, age 73, passed away 10, 2013. She was born May 18, 1940 to Walter and May Wilding in Northwood, England. She grew up in Ruislip Manor, England and was quite young when London was bombed in WWII; during those times, she would stay at her grandfathers pub, named The Star. She began her love for the ocean when a child as well, and would recall fond memories of visiting the beach, hunting for winkles (small edible sea snails), and enjoying a seaside feast with family. At the age of 16 Monica was taken on a trip to the continent to visit Majorca and other stops along the Mediterranean, and her love for travel was born. While attending school in England, Monica earned a scholarship at the Haberdashers Askes School for Girls, then continued on to University of Leicester where she earned her degree in education. Monica taught in London for 9 years at Old Oak Junior School before meeting Melvyn, an American Airman stationed in England. His landlord and her parents introduced them. quickly found many things in common, and it wasn long before Cupids arrow found them both. married within a year and moved to the United States. Melvyns joke through the years was that the best souvenir he brought back from England was Monica. had a strong, loving, adventurous marriage. Monica often told her daughter that she married her best friend and hoped that her son and daughter would find the same. Even though the decision to move to the United States created some challenges for Monica, she was able to teach again, became involved with several organizations, and established strong friendships. She taught at Egremont School in Encino and Curtis Elementary in Los Angeles. She was a well-respected and loved teacher by staff, students, and parents as was evident from the numerous letters of thanks she had received. Teaching was one of Monicas greatest passions. She loved kids, especially the more challenging ones. She was strict, but also creative, understanding, and knew how to use humor. She was also a voracious reader, an excellent gardener, and loved to go camping with Melvyn and her two children during the summers.
