Obituary: Lambert Martin Strengholt passed away on 19, 2014 at the Lynden Christian care surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old. Larry Strengholt was born to Gerrit and Wilma (Graanstra) Strengholt in Sanborn, Iowa, the second of four children. At the age of 15, his family moved to Lynden where he met and soon married Ruthele Van Lohuizen and settled in to raise their family. Larry and Ruthele were married 63 years and had three children – Jim, Margaret and Susan. He was an active member of First Christian Reformed Church and the Lynden community for the many years of his adult life. Larry was truly a self-made man, as were so many of his generation. He started work in construction doing brick and stone masonry and then moved into carpentry with several local contractors. In the late 1950s, he went to work for Baker & Ford Construction as a foreman and worked on numerous projects for them in Alaska, including a large DEW line radar station in the Aleutian Islands. In 1960, Larry started his own construction company with partner Jack Dawson and in 1967 transitioned into Strengholt Construction where he left his construction fingerprint on the surrounding local communities. Larry loved hunting and fishing which included many trips for both – fishing trips with his best fishing buddy Bob Clay, annual family fishing trips to Ross Lake and even several African safaris. He was also passionate about history and geography and he and Ruthele traveled around the world for over 30 years to visit and take in many of the worlds wonders and history. Larry is survived by his wife Ruthele; son Jim (Sharon) Strengholt of Lynden; daughters Margaret (John) Stienstra of Northern California and Susan (Steve) Van Kooten of Michigan; sisters Peggy (Dick) Vellema and Bernance (Herb) Korthius; seven grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A time of Visitation will be , 24, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at Gillies . The Graveside service is 10:15 AM, , 25, 2014 at Monumenta , followed by an 11:00 AM, Memorial Service at First Christian Reformed Church, 1010 Front St., Lynden. Obituary: Janet Stremler, age 70 of Lynden, went home to her Lord and Savior on , 24, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. She was born 24, 1944 to Gerrit and Rolina (Boverhof) Lynema in Byron , Michigan where she grew-up and attended school. As a teenager, Jan worked at Pine Rest nursing home in Grand Rapids, MI until moving to Whatcom in 1962. It was on a blind date that she met her beloved husband-to-be, Ken Stremler. were married 9, 1963, in Lynden, where they settled and raised their three daughters. Jan was a loving homemaker and mother and later in life a very proud and active grandmother to her eight grandchildren. She was also active in the Lynden community where, in her younger years, she worked as a nurses aide at CHCC. She and Ken renovated, owned and operated Century House Bed & Breakfast for 18 years and Jan later renovated, owned and operated Grandiflora for 15 years. She was an active member of Third Christian Reformed Church and served on various committees such as President of Mothers Club at Lynden Christian School. Travel was a passion and antiquing was a favorite hobby. Jan is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Ken; daughters Carrie (Mark) Visser, LaVon (Rod) Vander Werff and Trisha (Chad) Brink all of Lynden; 8 grandchildren; siblings William Bud (Nancy) Lynema, Ken Lynema, Marilyn (George) Palinski, Betty Sutton, Ronald (Marilyn) Lynema and sister-in-law Hilda Lynema; brother and sisters-in-law Lue (Stu) Stuurmans, Helen (Arv) Navis, Bob and Diane Korthuis and Lewie (Carol) Stremler. She was preceded in death by her parents Gerrit and Rolina Lynema; brothers Gerrit Lynema and William Lynema; sister, Mary Jane Lynema; brother-in-law, Fred Sutton; in-laws Simon and Elizabeth Stremler; and sister-in-law Elaine Korthuis. Visitation hours will be , 29, 3 to 6 pm at Gillies . A family graveside service will be conducted in Monumenta , , 30, 1:15 pm followed by a 2:00 pm Memorial Service at Third Christian Reformed Church, 514 Liberty St., Lynden.
