Obituary: PASTOR EUGENE E. SCHOOLER 8, 1936 ~ 22, 2015 Pastor Eugene E. Schooler, 79, passed peacefully from this life into eternal life on 22, 2015, following complications from a stroke suffered in late . He was born 8, 1936 in Lanesville, Indiana, the youngest of 8 children born to Willie C. and Elizabeth (Taylor) Schooler. The family soon moved to Columbus, Indiana, where Eugene attended St. Peters Lutheran School through the 8th grade and graduated from Columbus High School in 1954. He then attended Concordia Jr. in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and received his degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, Illinois in 1961. Congregations served during his ministry include: Trinity Lutheran Church, Auburn, Nebraska (1961 - 1966): Zion Lutheran Church, Petoskey, Michigan (1966 - 1978); Faith Lutheran Church, The Dalles, Oregon (1978 - 1990), and Calvary Lutheran Church, Sunnyside, Washington (1990 - 1991). He also served as Campus Pastor at Peru State Teachers in Nebraska and as a Circuit Counselor for other areas. While in The Dalles, he had services at Kamlu Retirement each evening. In retirement, he volunteered as School Superintendent at Trinity Lutheran Church, Manistee, Michigan and conducted services for various churches in that area. He moved to Vancouver, Washington in 2004 to be closer to his children and their families. Pastor Schooler married Janet (nee Buchanan) on 7, 1960 in their home congregation in Columbus, Indiana. The marriage was blessed with four sons and one daughter. For recreation, he enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, bowling, golf, and pitching for his churchs slow-pitch softball team. Family vacations were usually spent camping, and later Eugene and Janet enjoyed trips to Alaska with friends (25th & 50th anniversaries), a boat ride down the Rhine River (40th anniversary), and a special cruise to the Baltic capitals for their 70th birthdays. Preceding Pastor Schooler in death were his daughter, Karin Holdaway-Lehman; his parents; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters. Survivors include Janet, his wife of 55 years; four sons - Dave (Stacie) Schooler of Tigard, OR, Steve Schooler of Portland, OR, Dan (Lorelei) Schooler of Tacoma, WA, Scott (Kristin) Schooler of Castle Rock, CO; son-in-law, Chuck Lehman of Vancouver; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Norton of New Albany, IN; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Schooler of Columbus, IN; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Emanuel and Mariana Soare of Sunshine Senior for the kind and dedicated care they provided at their home during the last month of Eugenes life. We are so very grateful for everyones support and prayers. A funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Vancouver on 10, 2016 at 4:00 p.m., with a reception following. Obituary: Marallyn spent an active day with family, went to bed and never woke up. A stroke had taken her from us as she slept. Marallyn was born in Pueblo, CO to Dewey and Helen Frame, raised in Yakima and attended the University of Washington, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Marallyn married Donald McGuinness in 1954. returned to their hometown of Yakima where she helped Don establish his pediatric practice. raising her children, Marallyn began a career as a reading specialist. Throughout her life she helped countless children not only in academics, but in self-esteem empowerment. She was the ultimate champion for every child whose life she touched. Marallyn was a passionate community leader. The Yakima Junior Chamber of Commerce honored her as Outstanding Young Woman of the Year. For six decades she was a tireless volunteer for groups including the Yakima Valley Hearing and Speech , the Red Cross, Epic, Childrens Village, Yakima Symphony, Capital Theater, Yakima Greenway, Yakima Medical Auxiliary, Leslie Loudon Memorial Hospital Guild, and Yakima Rotary, of which she was an honorary member. At 82, Marallyn was still an avid tennis player and golfer. She was still a member of a womens travelling tennis team Marallyn was the consummate organizer of fundraising and social events, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for all. For the past eight years she was the Yakima Country Clubs social chairman. Marallyn proudly hosted her 45th annual Linden Way 4th of party this month, leading the childrens parade as Mayor of Linden Way. In 1996 Marallyn lost her beloved husband Don. In 1999, she married Jay Schonian and shared 13 happy years with him until his death in 2012. Marallyns greatest joy was her family. She had a zest for life and cherished her friends. She is survived by her eight children and step-children - Judy Beedy, Edmonds; Scott (Kathleen) McGuinness, Bellingham; Cathy (Garrett) Girvan, Danville, CA; Michael (Lori) McGuinness, Houston; Lisa (Brian) Carroll, Seattle; Chris (Sherm) Losee, Harbor; Jane Schonian, Savannah, GA; and Jim (Crystal) Schonian, Lakeway, TX; her sister-in-law Nancy Frame and her children Carolyn, Susannah, Bill, and Frank; 18 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Marallyn was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother Bill Frame. A Celebration of Life will be held on , 27 at 2:00 pm at the Yakima Country Club.
