Obituary: Phyllis Throckmorton Sartain passed away on 26, 2017 in Olympia, Washington. She was born 1, 1922 to Rolly and Novella Throckmorton in St. John, Washington. She was the oldest of 9 siblings and graduated from St. John High School in 1940. She attended classes at Kinman Business School in Spokane, WA. She married Richard Sartain in of 1943 and they were married for 65 years before his passing in 2008. Phyllis worked as a secretary at the Naval Supply Depot in San Diego, CA during World War II. the war, she worked in the registrars office at Eastern Washington State as well as working for various school districts. Phyllis and Dick moved to Olympia fifty years ago where she was a secretary for the Liquor Control Board. She was also the secretary for Senator Jolly and for two Representatives for the State Legislature. Phyllis was always involved in her church and community. She was an active leader in Girl Scouts and a Boy Scout Den Mother. Her many volunteer activities included The American Baptist churchs food bank and free meals program. She also was part of their Bell Choir for many years. Phyllis and Dick played golf (she had her notable hole-in-one on the golf course where they lived) and they also enjoyed many bridge parties with he dirty dozen. Phyllis was an avid bowler into her eighties. She leaves behind two sisters and three brothers as well as her daughter, Susan (Keith) and her son, Rodney (Jill) along with eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Her family will always remember the games and puzzles at the family holiday gatherings with wonderful food and lots of laughter. The past five years were difficult because of her memory loss but she could still laugh and love. The family wishes to send a special thank you to Connie, Develina, Elizabeth and Senen for their loving care the last few months. Phyllis will be interred with her beloved husband at Mills & Mills Memorial Park. A private family celebration of life will be held at a future date. |
