Obituary: STANLEY, Thomas Joseph Sr.,73, died , 19, 2017. Thomas, Tom, TJ, Grandpa Stanley, was born in 1943. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School and attended Ferrum . Tom was an avid golfer and loved to spend time at the Rappahannock River. He worked his entire 39-year career with Virginia State Police and served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 144th session of the FBI National Academy. Tom is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Stanley Williams (JC Williams, Jr.); son, Thomas Joseph (Jay) Stanley, Jr. (Candyce Cumber Stanley); granddaughters, Caedynce Annadel Stanley, Savannah Seldon Rose Stanley, and Kendall Ann Williams; grandson, Hunter Jay Najieb Stanley; brother, Henry W. Stanley, Jr. (Francine Stanley); and brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins, and god child. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Blunt Stanley; parents, Henry W. Stanley, Sr. and Margaret S. Stanley. His remains rest at the Nelsen -Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. on , 23, 2017, and a service will be held at 11 a.m. on , 24, 2017. Interment will follow immediately at Woodland , Ashland, VA. Born 3, 1924 in Union , NC, Thelma was the eleventh of sixteen siblings. She made a difference in the lives of others with her gift for laughter and a passion for fun. Obituary: Sherman Dixon Stanley, Sr. Sherman Dixon Stanley, Sr., 72, of Rustburg, died , May 21, 2010 at his residence. He was the devoted husband of Shirley Jean Hughes Stanley for fifty years. Born 28, 1938 in Halifax , he was the son of the late James Edward and Myrtle Crews Stanley Bray and was also preceded in death by a brother, Harvey Stanley and a grandson, Logan Stanley. He was retired from the Virginia Department of Highways and was a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Stanley is survived by two sons, Sherman D. Stanley, Jr. and wife, Carla and Gary H. Stanley and wife, Dawn, all of Rustburg; two brothers, James B. Stanley and wife, Vernell of Richmond and Louis E. Punk Stanley and wife, Mary Ann of Nathalie; one sister, Bernice Bray, also of Nathalie; two step-sisters, Lula B. Cockerill of Halifax and Paulette B. Chandler of Hampton and four grandchildren, Nathan Gillespie, Adam Stanley, Paige Stanley, and Carson Stanley. A funeral services will conducted at 11:00 a.m., May 24, 2010 at Hyland Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Weiser and the Rev. Roger Roller officiating. Interment will follow in the Cumbie Memorial in Rustburg. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m., , May 23, 2010 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and other times at the residence.
