Obituary: Vern Alma Stratton 1952 ~ 2012 Vern Alma Stratton, our beloved father, son, brother, grandpa and friend was called home 20, 2012. He passed from this life at his parents home in the orchard that he loved and worked in all of his life, surrounded by those who loved him. Vern Alma was born on his grandmothers kitchen table on May 26, 1952, in Orem, Utah. He was the second of eight children born to Vern and Joann Stratton. Vern Alma led a full and miraculous life and was often said to have had at least nine lives. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, skier and jack of all trades. Above all he was a farmer and loved the land. He was most often found in the orchard in Santaquin, pruning, picking, thinning, spraying or napping under a peach tree. He loved to work with his family teaching them how important it is to do a job well and enjoy what you do. He liked the hustle and bustle of the greenhouse, selling fruit at farmers market and the cold nights at the Christmas tree lot. He was kind, enjoyed helping those in need and had a huge heart. He considered his greatest accomplishment that of being a father. He loved his children deeply and will be thought of and remembered as a man who would do anything for them. Vern Alma is survived by his three children, Ryan, Catlin and Katie Jo; nine grandchildren, Xander, Brandt, Taven, Aspen, Carter, Berkley, Davis, Keegan and Emersyn; his parents; seven brothers and sisters, Joan, Kimball, Annette, Carl, Kenny, Sherry and Sue; and twenty-six nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his son Vern A. whom he spoke of often and looked forward to seeing again. Verns last words in this life were Im happy and hug, which were undoubtedly being spoken to his son who was the first to greet him as he passed. There will be a viewing from held , 26, 2012 at 10-11:30 at the Walker Family 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah, with funeral services to follow at 12:00 noon. Obituary: J. MICHAEL STRATTON 1951-2012 The magnificent Michael Stratton, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the Huntsman Cancer Institute 1, 2012 of complications due to cancer. Michael was born 14, 1951 in Orem, Utah to John D. and Ruby Davis Stratton, and learned the value of hard work from a very young age by working on the family farm. He graduated from Orem High School and Brigham Young University. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While in college he was employed by Broderick & Howell Construction and soon became a superintendent for that company, supervising multiple commercial projects, primarily schools and LDS chapels. He had a superb gift of relating with owners, architects, contractors, and especially his fellow employees. He was so proficient at what he did, every one of his projects was deemed a success. Mike worked at Broderick & Howell nearly 20 years, then in 1989 was named Director of Construction at Brigham Young University. For 23 years, until his death, he oversaw every major building project for the university, including the Joseph F. Smith Building, the Museum of Art, the Indoor Practice Facility, the BYU Broadcasting Building, and hundreds of other projects. Everyone loved him. Everyone admired his knowledge and experience, his work ethic, his humility, his kindness. He loved his job. He was a man with an incredible sense of duty. Throughout his illness, all those months of treatments and pain, if Mike could stand, he was at work. The true love of Mikes life was his wife Connie, the former Connie Swain. met just after 9th grade and were married 2, 1971. He adored her and showed her that every day. Their marriage led to two children and five grandchildren who called him Bompa. Mike loved to ride his big white horse Jock at South Fork and Sundance. This extraordinary man will always be an example to his posterity of loyalty, unselfishness, patience and courage. We have never seen such strength in the face of so much. He is finally free of all that but it will take a long time for us to let him go. We know we will see him again. Michael is survived by his wife Connie, his two children and their spouses: Barrett (Heather) Stratton and Leslie (Jon) McDonald. He sends a hug to his grandchildren Connor, Ava, Jack, Kate, and Cam.
