Obituary: Stanley CALVIN SORENSEN passed away peacefully on 8, 2015 at the age of 91. He was born on May 6, 1923 to Soren and Lillie Sorensen in Salt Lake City, Utah, the youngest of eight children. He attended East High School and the University of Utah. On 31, 1943 he married Rebecca (Becky) Sharp in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their early-married life was spent operating a dairy farm in Woods Cross, Utah, until he was drafted into the Army to serve in the Pacific in World War II. college, Cal joined his brothers in developing South East Furniture Co. into Utahs largest furniture store where he managed the floor coverings department. He received the National Award for Retail Excellence from the Carpet Institute of America. He was actively involved in Sugar House business affairs, serving as president of both the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary International. Cal and Becky settled in Holladay, Utah, where they lived for 30 years, raising a family of 7 children. had a full life, enjoying horses, skiing, boating, choice friends, and the beauty of the mountains. Cals life-long love of horses drew the family together for fun adventures and provided many opportunities to teach his children the value of hard work and responsibility. He created lasting memories for neighborhood youth by hosting annual rodeos on his property. Retiring from the furniture business in 1978, Cal, Becky, and sons Lowell, and Chris, moved to Hollister, California, to raise Arabian horses. Those were challenging yet happy years as they worked together on the farm. 11 years, they returned to their roots in Holladay to be close to family, friends, and the things they loved. Cal was a devoted member of the LDS Church and his life was guided by strict obedience to gospel principles. His was a life of broad and diverse church service. He held many leadership positions and especially enjoyed working with the youth. He was proud of his Danish heritage, exemplifying his immigrant ancestors hard work, thrift, and devotion to faith. He treated everyone he encountered as a friend. People were drawn to his positive outlook and ability to see the good in everyone. As a husband, he treated Becky with love, respect, and kindness during their marriage of 71 years. As a father, he showed love and taught hard work, integrity, patience, and commitment to the Lord. As a friend, he showed understanding, loyalty, and admiration. His parents, siblings, son, Lowell, and great grandson, Weston, predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Becky, his children Stafford (Debbie), Mark, Becky Sorensen Seare (David), Soren, Sharp (Laura) and Chris (Marce), 16 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be , 14, 2015 at noon at Holladay 18 Ward, 2625 E Milo Way (4910 So). Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary (3401 S. Obituary: Robert Glen Sorensen 20, 1953- 8, 2009 Born 20, 1953 in Burley, Idaho. The third son of Gene V. and Mary Kay Roskelley Sorensen. He attended Burley Elementary and graduated from Burley High School in 1971. He served as an LDS missionary in the Delaware-Maryland Mission. He is survived by seven brothers and one sister: Steven and Avis Sorensen (Holman, WI), Thomas and Susan Sorensen (Syracuse, UT), Kevin and Dina Sorensen (Palmer, AL), Mark and Marie Sorensen (Orem, UT), Margene and Ken Burgener (Syracuse, UT), Wayne and Teri Sorensen (Poway, Ca), Kelly Sorensen (Lehi, UT), William and Laurie Sorensen (Evanston, WY). He was preceded in death by one brother: David. He was a member of the LDS Church, and very devoted to his religious callings. He has served as stake and regional athletic director, coach of basketball and softball teams, and as a worker in the Provo Temple. He was serving as the Ward Executive Secretary and as a worker in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. He passed away at his home from natural causes. He loved sports and was a huge BYU sports fan, attending 22 of 27 bowl games. He also was a certified official for volleyball for the Utah High School Athletic Association. In high school he lettered in wrestling, tennis, and football. He was a member of Bel Canto Choir and played the clarinet in the high school band. He had a B.S. degree from Weber State where he was a member of the Weber State Institute Choral. He was very devoted to his family and will be greatly missed by his siblings and many nieces and nephews. services will be held at 11 a.m. , 13, 2009, at the Canyon View Stake , 585 East 800 North, Orem. Family and friends may call evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson , 646 East 800 North, Orem and morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Obituary: Our sweet and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep 4, 2014 surrounded by her family. Pat attended North Sanpete High School, Salt Lake Community , and Weber State University obtaining a degree in nursing. She worked at Pioneer Valley Hospital in Labor and Delivery and as an OR Supervisor for over 25 years. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities. She served as a Relief Society President with 3 separate Bishops. She enjoyed temple work, and served as an ordinance worker as well as doing sealings for over 26 years. She also served as a volunteer at the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum. She is survived by her husband Glenn, sons Matthew (Amy), Jeffery (Faun), Christopher (Melva), grandchildren Brent (M ecia), Zachary, Samantha, Kayleigh, Stephanie (Mikhail), Ashleigh, Sydney, and three great grandchildren Conner James, Patrick, and Rylee Ann, and many inherited great grandchildren and even several great great grandchildren through Chris second marriage. Obituary: Myron Louis Sorensen passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, following an extended illness, at 80 years of age, 2, 2015. He was born in Ogden, Utah, 3, 1934, later moved and raised in Sacramento, California. He was the eldest child of Lois Arvilla Giles and Louis Jensen Sorensen. In his early years he graduated from Brigham Young University, served a mission in the Great Lakes Mission, served in the US Army and graduated from UC Berkeley School of Law. In 1973 he married Nancy McDonald Brubaker and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised five children, Karrie Kay and Robert Nyberg from Nancy's previous marriage and Marcie Lyn, Michael Myron (died, 1981) and Leslie Ann from their marriage. Myron worked as a partner at the law firm Kirton McConkie until he retired at age 70. He practiced real estate law and family law. His delighted especially in the many adoptions he assisted in. Myron was an avid Boy Scout member, attending a National Jamboree in 1950 at Valley Forge, becoming an Eagle Scout and serving many years at a scoutmaster and on scouting committees. Myron was a scholar with a strong interest and knowledge in LDS history, schismatic groups, and theology. He loved attending Mormon History Association conferences. His extensive library was dear to his heart. He shared his love and knowledge of church history giving fireside presentations and teaching School. He served as bishop of the Valley View Fifth Ward for over five years and served on the stake high council. Myron was a wonderful family man. He was a kind and wise husband and father. He loved traditions and always made holidays a special time: for Nancy, it was a rose for every year they were married and the bouquet grew bigger every year; Easter was our famous (to us) egg hunt; tricks and costumes were part of Halloween and there was always a new book for each person at Christmas. He loved and was loved by many. He will be missed by us all. Myron was predeceased by his son Michael Myron (1981), he is survived by his wife, Nancy Brubaker and four children, Karrie Kay Howard (Robert) of South Jordan, Robert (Elizabeth) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Marcie Lyn Bailey (Byron) of Holliday, Leslie Ann Thackeray (Ted) of Taylorsville, siblings, Clifford G. Sorensen, DDS (Jennifer) of Huntsville, David C. Sorensen, DDS (Mikki), Carol Jean Akin of Sacramento, CA and Patricia Ann Sorensen of Medford, OR. He had a special place in his heart for each of his 11 grandchildren. services will be held at 11 a.m. on , 22, 2015 at the Valley View Stake , 2245 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City, UT. Friends may visit with the family on from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and on from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be next to son Michael at the Wasatch Lawn . |
