Obituary: Dorothy Jean Sipes 1932-2011 Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed peacefully in her sleep Feb. 19, 2011. She was born Dec. 29, 1932 in Bowmont, ID the daughter of Link Kelley and Helen Zimmerman. She met the love of her life Jasper Sipes whom she married on May 26, 1954. Together they had a son, Terrel. Obituary: Paul C. Singleton Paul C. Singleton passed away peacefully at home on , 5, 2008. He was born in Provo, Utah on 22, 1919 and was the eldest of two sons born to Samuel Clyde and Lily Adel Hunt Singleton.Paul attended Provo public high schools graduating from Provo High School in 1937. He completed two years at Brigham Young University before being drafted into the United States Army Medical Corps in 1941. While serving in the Medical Corps, he was selected for Officers Candidate School and completed his military service as a First Lieutenant on 7, 1945.He married Hortense Butler in the Salt Lake Temple on 8, 1942 while on leave from Camp Robinson in Little Rock Arkansas. Paul had met Hortense through a mutual friend one year earlier. Following their marriage, Hortense joined Paul in Little Rock, beginning a sixty-six year love affair that produced three sons: Ronald Paul, Ross Clyde and Gregory Adelbert Singleton.One grandchild, Daniel Paul Singleton, son of Ross and Carrie, died of leukemia at ten years of age. There are five surviving grandchildren: Graeme Christopher, Sarah Audrey, Annie Catherine, Flynn Manning and Hunter Shea Singleton, and one great granddaughter, Jaedyn Hallie Mathie.Following his honorable discharge from the U S. Army Medical Corps, Paul completed his Bachelors Degree in Soils. He accepted a job in Laramie, Wyoming in 1951 with the Soil Conservation Service as a Soil Scientist. four years with the SCS, Paul joined the faculty at the University of Wyoming receiving a Masters Degree in Soil Science two years later. From 1961 to 1963 he completed course work for his Doctorate in soil Science at Oregon State University. He then returned to his University of Wyoming faculty position and in 1965, was awarded a PhD. in Soil Science.During his twenty-six year tenure as a professor at the University of Wyoming, Paul served first as Bishop of the Married Student Ward and then as Bishop of the Laramie Town Ward. In addition to his service as Bishop, he fulfilled many other callings in the church.Paul loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He was also active with the Boy Scouts, serving as a Scout Master. Paul and Hortense had a large circle of friends in Laramie and they frequently gathered at one anothers homes to socialize.Paul retired from the University of Wyoming in 1981. He and Hortense then returned to Utah, choosing Orem as their new home. Starting in 1982, they became snowbirds, spending their winters in Quartzite, Arizona, where Paul and his Brother Mark were two of the original founders of the Gold Star R V Park, a co-op formed by a group of predominantly LDS retirees who built their own RV park from scratch. Gold Star is now one of the largest and most successful RV parks in Quartzite. In 1985, Paul and Hortense were called to the Canada Calgary Mission where they were assigned to labor in Brooks, Alberta, Canada.Paul C. Singleton was called to be Patriarch in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1993. He served as an active Patriarch for seven years during which time he gave four hundred and fifty five blessings and in doing so, beheld many spiritual experiences. One of the highlights of Pauls life occurred when he was asked by the First Presidency of the church to offer the invocation at the 21st session of the Mount Timpanogos Temple dedication on , 18, 1996.Paul will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, and beloved father, grandfather, and friend. He was patriarch not only in his calling for the LDS church but also of the Singleton family and he will be forever loved and missed. Obituary: Hortense Butler Singleton Hortense Butler Singleton passed away peacefully at home on , 2, 2009. She was born in Lewiston, Utah on 6, 1919 to Marvin Adelbert Butler and Ines Cyrene Jackson Butler. Hortense spent her first years with four brothers, Claude, Keith, Jay and Ross, on a farm in Dairy Creek, Idaho and graduated from Malad High School in 1937. She completed two years of study at BYU. She married Paul C. Singleton of Provo, Utah on 8, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple, beginning a 66 year love affair that produced three children: Ronald Paul of Orem, Ross Clyde (and wife Carrie) of Tacoma, Washington and Gregory Adelbert of Portland, Oregon. One grandchild, Daniel Paul Singleton, son of Ross and Carrie Singleton, died of leukemia at ten years of age. There are five surviving grandchildren: Graeme Christopher, Sarah Audrey, Annie Catherine, Flynn Manning and Hunter Shea Singleton and one great granddaughter, Jaedyn Hallie Mathie. Paul and Hortense were married during WWII while Paul was serving in the military. Following his discharge, the couple returned to Provo, Utah where Paul earned his Batchelors Degree in Soils. Pauls graduation, the family moved to Laramie, Wyoming in 1951 where Paul served for thirty years as a Professor at the University of Wyoming. In Laramie, Hortense served in a variety of capacities with the LDS church, worked as an operator for Mountain Bell Telephone and as a medical insurance clerk for a local physicians office. Hortense and Paul enjoyed a vibrant social life with close friends at regular dinner parties. Pauls retirement in 1981, Paul and Hortense moved back to Utah, choosing Orem as their new home. Starting in 1982, they became snowbirds, spending their winters in Quartzite, Arizona where they we instrumental in starting the Gold Star RV Park. In 1985, Hortense and Paul were called to the Canada Calgary Mission where they were assigned to labor in Brooks, Alberta, Canada. Hortense and Paul loved their life in Orem and appreciated the friendship and love of neighbors, friends and family. Hortense will always be remembered as a loving wife and a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Her positive spirit lifted everyone around her. She looked for the best in people and delighted in helping them realize their potential.
