Obituary: EVERMAN -- Troy James Strother Sr. was granted his wings on , Sept. 24, 2012, at 5:30 a.m. and left this earth, glory bound, to meet his personal Lord and Savior. Celebration of life: 10 a.m. at Shannon Rose Hill Chapel with interment to follow in Everman in Everman. Viewing: 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. TJ was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Oakdale, La., and was married to Geraldine Strother from 18, 1951, until her passing. The union yielded three generations of family. Troy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army prior to becoming a general paint contractor in the Metroplex for 30-plus years. TJ was a committed husband of 58 years losing his wife 23 months prior to his death. With health issues that forbade him to live at home, he had many long-term caregivers over two years, who genuinely grew to love and respect him. shared with us often how unique his relationship and love for his family was. shared that, in the face of long-term illness, he refused to give up driven by love and dedication to his family. Many said he was the reason they looked forward to coming to work each day. He loved his family passionately and was steadfast and unwavering in his commitment to caring for and loving his entire family, putting his own discomfort and failing health aside, to continue to fulfill his role and responsibility as a father and papa, until the moment he died. He spent the last two years of his life living for the times when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were at his bedside to share stories and spend time with him. His family was unconditionally faithful to be there. TJ will long be remembered by everyone who knew him as the man who never met a stranger, with the big personality, the big smile and the big heart. His presence will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors: His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. |

Obituary: Shirley Ann Page Strother -- adored wife, cherished daughter, beloved sister, dear aunt, and worlds best Nana -- died peacefully in her sleep on 7, 2009. Born in Cisco, Texas, on 10, 1946, she was the first daughter of Jack and Carolyn Page. She is preceded in death by her father, Jack Page. She is survived by her husband, soulmate, and high school sweetheart, Macon Strother. married at age 18 in 1964, and for 44 years they shared a love of travel, movies, and sports. She is also survived by her three devoted children Scott, Justin, and Dee, all of Houston, Texas; her four adoring grandchildren, Jacob, Hailee, Carter, and Chloe; her sister, Sandra Page Belaire; her mother, Carolyn Page Broughton; and numerous nieces and a nephew. Shirely loved life. She was a renegade....a breast cancer survivor....a lover of animals....an everyday hero who sacrificed much of herself for the good and happiness of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, strength, and kindness to all whose lives she touched, including neighbors, friends, and co-workers. Shirley was a special person, such an inspiration for all of us with her incredible spirit, courage, and purpose. There is not a day that will go by that we will not miss her and think of her. As a wife, mother, daughter, and sister, she was ours. She had an endearing smile, a gentle touch, and a heart full of love. When we see things that are good in our lives, we will see Shirley, now and forever. May her legacy live in you. Memorial services will be held , 10, 2009, 2:00 p.m.at Memorial Oaks , 13001 Katy Freeway. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. |
