Obituary: Elizabeth (Betty) Harrington Stranz was born in Plano, Texas on 17, 1929. At the age of 87, she passed peacefully on the morning of 22, 2016 to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Betty was born to Charles E. and Elizabeth Stovall Harrington, and while lifes journey took her to many places that she called home, Bettys heart never left Plano. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, 2nd Lt. Charles E. Harrington, Jr., USMC, who died during the battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Art Stranz of Plano, her children Marc Stranz and wife Kathryn of Lower Macungie, PA, Lisa Stranz Widdicombe of Richmond, VA, Paul Stranz and wife Marnie of Rowlett, TX, and Jennifer Stranz Ciochetto and husband Joel of Galveston, TX, six grandchildren Don Widdicombe, Jeremy Ford, Jon Widdicombe, Michael Ford, Stefan Stranz, Evan Stranz, Scott Stranz, and Megan Stranz, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Betty graduated from Plano High School in 1946. She proudly received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Baylor University in 1950 and later received her Master of Arts degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Betty and Art were married in the Chapel at First Baptist Church Plano on 19, 1949. Bettys great, great grandfather Silas M. Harrington was one of three pharmacists in the State of Texas when he founded Harringtons Pharmacy in 1881 in downtown Plano. Bettys father, also a well-known pharmacist, later took ownership of the pharmacy, and after their marriage, Art joined the family business as a co-owner and pharmacist. While the men worked behind the counter, Betty and her mother handled bookkeeping responsibilities and both worked the front counter as soda jerks when needed. When Art was elected Mayor of Plano and served from 1960-62, Betty was the First Lady of Plano while raising their family. Decades later, Betty served with the Friends of the Plano Public Library and helped co-author the book, Plano, The Early Years. Early in her career, Betty was involved in the federal Head Start program to help underprivileged children in Tennessee and Virginia. As a social worker, Bettys love for the poor and her work to rehabilitate prisoners were legendary on the streets of Richmond, VA as she served the least of Gods children. Upon etirement from social work, Betty returned to Plano and worked several years as the Admissions Director for Juliette Fowler Communities in Dallas, TX. A life-long member of First Baptist Church Plano, Bettys passion was music and helping the less fortunate. Music was an important part of her life. Like her mother before her, she sang in the choir for countless years and later enjoyed being a part of the Sunshine Singers with Art. Bettys devotion to God brought her to church just about every night and morning. In addition, Bettys merciful heart led her to spend many hours in the community helping those in need whether they were homeless, in prison, or just down and out and in need of a caring hand. Betty leaves behind a multitude of friends and family that miss her dearly, especially Art, but we all rejoice in the knowledge and with confidence that she is now walking with our Lord Jesus Christ and she is taking in the awesome sights in Heaven. services will be private, but all are welcome to attend a memorial service to honor Betty and to glorify God on , 26, 2016, at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church Plano, 1300 East 15th Street, Plano, TX 75074. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Bettys honor to the music ministry and community outreach programs at First Baptist Church Plano. |

Obituary: John Edward Strangmeier, of Beach City, Texas, entered into eternal rest on 15, 2014, at the age of 79 years, 8 months, and 15 days. John was born to William Frederick Carl and Willie Mae Bussey Strangmeier on 30, 1935 in Baytown, Texas. John and his bride, Helen Margaret (Miller), celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on 14, 2014, reminiscing about their elopement, their first apartment, the five burgers they would get for $1.00 (John would eat 4.5 and Helen would eat the other half), and the many wonderful years together rearing their three children and enjoying their wonderful large family. John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Helen; his children and their spouses, John David Strangmeier and Kim; Deborah Strangmeier McDonald and Cory; Rosanna Strangmeier Reuter and David; grandchildren, Johnathan & Shannon Strangmeier, Courtney and Dustin Lindley, Nicholas Berry, Rebecca and Thomas Sharpe, Catherine Reuter, Ryan Reuter, Carl Reuter, Caroline Reuter, John McDonald, Jacob McDonald, Michael Berry, Jeremy Berry, Dex Greer and Drew Greer; great-grandsons, Bryce Lindley and Hudson Sharpe; great-granddaughters, Chloe Strangmeier, Caitlin Strangmeier, Reagan Sharpe, and Kelsey Lindley; brothers, William Kimbal Strangmeier and wife, Anne, and Dr. James Strangmeier and wife, Nelda; many precious nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and dear friends, including Gill Herrick of Dallas, Larry and Laura Sladecek; and the Butler and Spencer families of Wortham, Texas. John retired from Lyondell Petrochemical in Channelview and became a full-time rancher in Wortham, Texas, on his Ranch – the Bar$. John and Helen enjoyed traveling to bluegrass festivals and listening to bluegrass gospel music. He was an active member and Past Master of the Longbotham Lodge, as well as a member of both the Scottish and York Rites and a Shriner. John was a charter member of the Lyons Club of Channelview. In his youth, John was a member of Boy Scout Troop 255, where he received his Eagle Scout award and The Order of the Arrow. John helped build the Grace United Methodist Church in Baytown, Texas, where he attended in his earlier years and attended the First United Methodist Church of Wortham, Texas. Always set goals: daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and for life. You may not reach the life ones, but each one you reach, you can always tell yourself you did a good job and won need anyone else telling you that. Our Dad was a wise and generous man. We will miss him tremendously in this life. One of the hardest working people we know. He did so much for our family to give us an idyllic life and provided such wisdom and guidance. He and Mom have done so much for so many, asking nothing in return except to take care of what has been given. Obituary: Thomas Ivan Strange, 77, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully in the early hours of 8, 2014 at home in Austin. Tom was born 5, 1936 in Washington, Indiana to Ivan Thomas Strange and Ruth Evelyn Woods Strange. Tom grew up in Indianapolis with his two brothers, his mother and stepfather, Melvin Hillis. He graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1954 and joined the Navy. completing his tour of duty in the Pacific, he returned to Indianapolis to pursue his education. He attended Butler University in Indianapolis before transferring and graduating from Purdue University with a degree in Engineering. Tom was married and had two children, Jeffrey and Stacey, with his first wife. working for several years at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in Baltimore, Tom moved to Austin to work at Tracor in 1966. He married Jeannie Barcus in 1968 and they had two daughters, Linda and Mary Ruth. Tom was one of the original founders of Radian, Co. in 1969. 9 years at Radian, Tom returned to work at Tracor. In 1986 Tom moved the family to St. Marys Maryland to work at Tracor there. When the family returned from Maryland to Austin in 1997, Tom retired from Tracor. Tom loved his family, mathematics, history, the beach, the mountains, wildlife and traveling. Tom and Jeannie took several trips to France and Scotland and loved both countries. Tom was preceded in death by his father Ivan Strange, his mother and stepfather Ruth and Melvin Hillis, and his youngest brother Richard Strange. He is survived by his wife Jeannie, his brother Paul Strange, and his wife Judy, his half-sister Patty Strange Zorman and her husband Randy, his son Jeffrey Strange, his daughter, Stacey Strange Johnson and her husband Dale, his daughter Linda Strange, his daughter Mary Ruth Strange Howard and her husband Chris. He especially loved and cherished his granddaughters, Vivien Strange Howard and Olivia Jane Howard. He is also survived by his in-laws, Joe and Mary Margaret Wells and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends that he loved very much. Tom will be interred at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio on , 13 at 11:15 AM. A memorial service will be held at Tarrytown United Methodist Church, 2601 Exposition Blvd, Austin on , 16 at 11:00 AM. A reception at the church will follow the service. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Austin Animal , the Tarrytown UMC Music fund, or a charity of your choice. |

She will be missed and remembered for her endearing love, warm welcomes, words of encouragement and her delicious home-cooked meals. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Strange, in 2014; her parents; a daughter, Diana Wood in 2001; a granddaughter, Beth Strange in 1977; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Strange in 1986. Survivors include her daughter, Kay Garrison and husband Max of Amarillo; Bill Strange and wife Shana of Silverton; a son-in-law, Bill Wood and wife Paula of Claude; eight grandchildren, Walt, Cody, Bryan, Ty, Matt, Kassie, Clay and Blake; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
