Obituary: Norman S. Strange (born 1922) passed away peacefully after a long illness on 29, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Joan Strange and is survived by his 6 children (Mary Joan Hammett, Joe Strange, Diane E. Thornton, Dan Strange, Johnny Strange, Marjorie Looney), 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Norman was orphaned at 4 years old and grew up at his beloved Masonic and School in Fort Worth, where he played football for the famous Mighty Mites featured in the book, Twelve Mighty Orphans. He served as an Army Captain in WW II, graduated from Texas A&M and had a long career as a CPA. Obituary: Lucyle Glover Hargis Strange passed away peacefully at the age of 99, surrounded by family in her home of 70 years. She was born on 5th, 1912 to Mr. and Mrs. HB Glover of Springfield, TN and attended Gulf Park , MS, before later graduating from UT Austin, where she met Dr. Wm Huard Hargis Jr of San Antonio. were married in 1937 and had their first child during her husbands fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Huards tour of duty in the South Pacific, the happily reunited family settled in San Antonio. In 1949, Huard died of polio, leaving Lucyle with five young children, to whom she dedicated her life for the next twenty-five years. Supported by church and extended family, and despite the tragedy of her 15-year-old son Glovers death in 1957, she successfully reared her family and put her four children through college. In 1974, she married San Antonio businessman Joseph C Strange. For sixteen years they enjoyed traveling and were known as the The Old Smoothies on the dance floor. Following Joes death, Lucyle lived independently, continuing to travel, visiting her wide-spread family, enjoying her beloved grandchildren, and rooting for the Spurs. Lucyle is survived by her children, Beverly Hargis Yates of Wales, UK, Lynn N. Hargis of Washington DC, John Wm Hargis of Menlo Park, CA, and Janet Hargis Simpson of Bellingham, WA, and her grandchildren Jessica Hargis Simpson, Matthew Hargis Simpson, Kathryn Wilks Hargis and Melissa Charner Lucyle Katz. Her generous heart and strength of spirit inspired many. She will be sorely missed. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Alamo Heights Methodist Church, the Garden Chapel, on 7th at 11AM. If you would like to make a donation in Lucyles honor, three of her charities were: Doctors Without Borders, Oxfam, and The David Robinson Foundation. under the direction of Sunset , San Antonio, TX. |

Obituary: Louis F. Strange, 91, of Austin, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on , May 6, 2016. There he joined with his wife, Betty McCreary Strange, who preceded him in death. Louis was a millwright, machinist, and mechanical inspector, but most of all, he was a teacher. He never missed an opportunity to pass his skills and knowledge on to others, whether they were in School class when they were 11 years old, in his trade education classes, or those with whom he worked. Louis was born in Los Angeles to Louis Strange Sr. and Dollie Graham Strange, but spent most of his life in Texas, including Groesbeck, Pasadena and Austin. Louis was a long-time and faithful member of Great Hills Baptist Church. He was a member of Austin Masonic Lodge #12, the Ben Hur Shrine Temple and the York rite, also in Austin. Louis leaves behind a family of two sons, Michael of Elgin, Texas and Wesley of McKinney, Texas. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, including Kymberlee Rusnak of Cedar Park, Kathleen Sheffield of Liberty Hill, Ashleigh Strange of McKinney, Tyler Strange of Houston, Jacob Jennings of Austin, and PJ Jennings of Pearland. In addition, Louis had numerous great-grandchildren that he loved to dote on, and was always thrilled to see. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Cedar Park Regional Medical , and especially the nurses in ICU, for their compassionate care of Louis in his final days. |
