Obituary: Powell Burton (P.B.) Stokes, age 87, died , 5, 2013. retiring from the Air Force Civilian Services, Rev. Stokes became an ordained minister and pastored Living Faith Church for 22 years. Powell Burton Stokes was born on 19, 1926 in Memphis, Tennessee. Within 6 months, his parents moved to Amarillo, Texas, so thereafter, Burton considered himself a Texan. Except for a short foray to California, he lived his entire adult life in San Antonio, the city he loved so much that he prayed over it from the Tower of the Americas every for almost two decades. graduating from Tulane University with a degree in physics, Burton went to work for the United States Air Force Security Service in San Antonio—where he was known to his friends as P.B.—developing electronic surveillance for the United States during the Cold War. Many of the patents he holds from those years are still classified today. 30 years with the Air Force Security Service, Burton retired. Barely two years later, the Lord called him to become an ordained minister. He went on to pastor Living Faith Church for 22 years. The heart of Burtons ministry was people. He co-authored the book No Longer a Victim to teach pastors how to minister to hurting and wounded people. He and Betty were often called on to minister to those being victimized and to women in abusive marriages. Burton was attending Tulane University when he met Betty, the dark-haired beauty who would become his wife of 65 years. Burton and Betty have 3 daughters: Susan, Julia, and Betsy; 6 grandchildren: Seth, Isaiah, Margaret, Ashley, Jennifer, and Angela; and 11 great-grandchildren: Corinne, Madison, Bailey, Kaleb, Lance, Preston, Chloe, Landon, Madison, Elliot, and Amelie. Burton leaves a legacy of love and big bear hugs. He prayed for San Antonio, the city he loved, from the Tower of the Americas every for almost two decades. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Preston Stokes; daughters, Susan Shaked and husband, Zeev; Julia Stokes; and Betsy Leifeste and husband, Rodney; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Sue Stokes Dishongh.
