Obituary: Robert Lewis Stewart
Lt. Col. USAF Ret. Robert Bobby Lewis Stewart passed away on May 3rd in San Antonio after a brief illness. He was born in Waco, Texas on 27, 1930 and was the first child of his proud parents, Murray and Marguerite Stewart. Robert grew up as a fifth generation Texan with an idyllic childhood in Smithville, Texas. He lettered in football for the Smithville High School Tigers and played clarinet in the school band during halftime ceremonies. Upon his graduation from high school, Robert attended Baylor University before deciding to serve his country and follow his lifelong dream of being a fighter pilot. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 where he spent the first few months of his burgeoning military career as an officer in the MP Military Police while awaiting his assignment to the Aviation Cadet Program. He always said that he somewhat resembled Barney Fife during his early days in the Air Force. Ultimately, his perseverance paid off when he graduated from the Aviation Cadet Program and was presented with his Wings and Commission later in 1952. His first flight assignment was to the F86 Combat Crew Training at Nellis AFB in Nevada. Later, Robert proudly served his country in combat as an F86 fighter pilot with the 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing during the Korean conflict. his experiences in Korea, Robert was stationed at Edwards AFB in California as a test pilot. One of the milestones of his fighter pilot career came in 1955 when he was chosen to serve in the USAF Thunderbirds, flying in the Right Wing position. In addition, Robert served as an Air Training Officer at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO and was honored to be a member of the Class of 59 graduates. In 1966, he served in the Tactical Strike Planning Office in Vietnam. During his four 4 tours of duty in the Vietnam War, Robert flew the F100 in over 263 successful missions. Robert retired from his distinguished career in the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel in 1978. Over the span of his 27 year military career, Robert was decorated with numerous awards and citations that included the Distinguished Flying Cross, Oak Leaf Cluster; Commendation Medal, USAF 2-Oak Leaf Clusters; Commendation Medal; U.S. Army Meritorious Service USAF 2-Oak Leaf Clusters; Meritorious Service, Republic of South Korea Air Force, General Cho, Young Bok, Chief of Staff Republic of Air Force, 1975; and Saber and Spurs, 3rd Calvary Regiment, Ft. Lewis, WA, 1971. In 1978, Robert entered the private sector as a real estate broker in the Austin area. He expanded his business to real estate development and marketing into Washington State and Nevada where he culminated his successful business career. Robert was proud to be affiliated with a number of civic and military organizations. He was a Life Member of the Order of the Daedalians, a member of the F86 Wall of Honor at the National Aviation and Space Exploration Museum, a member of the Association of Graduates, United States Air Force Academy, and Active Member in the Air Force Village II Catholic Community, St. Louis Catholic Church, Castroville, TX. In retirement, Robert returned to his Texas roots with his wife of 24 years, Carolyn, by moving to San Antonio and setting up camp at Air Force Village II. He thoroughly enjoyed working in his garden and was renowned for his bumper crops of onions and other freshly grown vegetables that he shared with family and friends, alike. Robert and Carolyn enjoyed traveling in their retirement years and were known for their annual trips to Hawaii. The most important trips, they always felt, were the many excursions to see their beloved grandchildren throughout the country. Robert was predeceased by his mother, Marguerite, and his father, Murray. He is lovingly survived by his wife Carolyn; his sons John Hurley and his wife, Kim, of Olympia, WA; Robert L. Stewart, Jr. of Arlington, VA; Michael K. Stewart and his wife, Lisa, of Austin, TX; his step-children Lisa Anderson and her husband, Steve, of Las Vegas, NV, Stephen Anderson and his wife, Cheryl, of Las Vegas, NV, and Janel Mulvihill and her husband, Kevin Colonel, USAF, Colorado Springs, CO. In addition, Robert is survived by his sister Myrna Thiessen and her husband, Bill, of La Grange, TX; and brother Carl and his wife, Carleen, of White Oak, TX. He also leaves to cherish his memory a multitude of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren that he truly loved so much. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Air Force Village II Chapel Fund or to the charity of your choice in Roberts honor. Obituary: Raymond Lynn Stewart, Sr., 50, was suddenly taken from this life on 3, 2017. He was born on 19, 1967 to Halbert and Margarett (Smith) Stewart in Dallas, TX.

Raymond loved to sing and sounded a lot like Hank Williams, Jr.. He was a great storyteller, enjoyed making people laugh and was always the life of the party. He was definitely his Mama’s “blue eyed baby boy” and he loved being with his family, especially his granddaughter RayeLeigh. Raymond was just a country boy at heart and loved to go fishing with his sons. He was very proud of his daughter and referred to her as his rock. He would test her faith more than anyone, always challenging her; teaching her to be strong in her faith.

He was never scared to say what he thought and often would get a rise out of people to see how different people would act.

He taught a lot of people many things some were a little wild and he didn't love like most people.. but when he loved; he loved deeply. The last few days of his life he made several comments that Jesus was on his heart and that’s a great comfort to his family to know that he is now resting in the arms of Jesus.

Preceding him in death are his grandparents: Halbert and Mattie Stewart and Shorty and Era Beach.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Misti Perez and husband, Tony, Raymond Stewart, Jr. and Dakota Stewart; granddaughter RayeLeigh Perez; parents Halbert and Margarett Stewart; brother James Stewart, Sr. and wife, Kelly; nephew James Stewart, Jr.; niece Jamielynn Stewart; and a host of extended family members and friends that will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be , 6:00 - 8:00, 10 at Roselawn in Seagoville. services will be 10:00 on , 11 at Roselawn, followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Gardens where he will be laid to rest in the Garden of Prayer.
