Obituary: Dorothy Jean Steckline
Born 1, 1926
Died 6, 2021
McKinney, Texas Dorothy Jean (Nevers) Steckline, age 95, peacefully passed away on 6, 2021, and is now with her precious Lord and Savior. She was born on 1, 1926, in Binghamton, New York, to Harry A. and Jessie (Culver) Nevers, and married Lloyd W. Steckline on 25, 1944. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, spouse, stepfather Pete Shands, siblings Don Nevers, Ralph Nevers, Norma (Nevers) Davis, Robert Nevers, Betty Ruth (Shands) Wilkerson, Peggy Jo (Shands) Lambert, daughter Carol Lewis, infant son Scott Lee Steckline, granddaughter Anne Barton, son-in-law, Joe Greer, and many other extended family members. She loved family reunions - she is reunited with so many now, and we are sure shes organizing crafts, games, and a talent show. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Nancy Blair (Earl), daughters Barbara Greer, Pam Stephens (Donnie), Cindy Johnston, and Eve Campbell, grandchildren, Carol Guentherman (Mike), Jeff Greer (Julie), John Greer (Phyllis), Todd Johnston (Desiree), Bethany Johnston (Sam Overly), Seth Johnston, Jason Campbell (Tara), Phil Barton, several great-grandchildren, and a myriad of nieces and nephews. From age 7, Dorothy grew up in Miami, Florida, graduating from Jackson High School. There she married Lloyd, and together they raised their four daughters, living in different military base towns until finally settling in Amarillo in 1959. She was a Civil Service employee, working 28 years for the Department of Defense, her final position being the Commanders Administrative Assistant at the Amarillo Military Entrance Processing Station. She retired in 1990 and thoroughly enjoyed the freedom to be Grandma and Gigi to so many. Dorothy lived in Amarillo for 36 years and was a member of Eastridge Baptist Church, serving as School teacher, committee member, Missons and GA organizer, started a puppet and clown ministry, and so much more. She moved to McKinney in 1996 to be nearer to family and was a member of First Baptist Church until her death. There she led the puppet ministry, and was very involved in missions work including Hopes Door, Christmas Angel Tree, Shoes for Orphan Souls, and Food Pantry and Back-to-School Supplies Drives. One of her greatest legacies was creating and naming The Pen and Ink Group, a card writing outreach ministry that is still in place today. Dorothy loved arts and crafts including sewing, crocheting, and painting. An avid quilter, she made gorgeous quilts for each of her daughters. She was a wonderful cook and took great delight in cooking for those she loved dearly, her family and friends. Dorothy was most assuredly a people gatherer, keeping up with loved ones and friends all over the country with phone calls, cards, and letters. She was very witty and came up with responses that made you laugh. She loved life and lived it fully. The greatest love of her life is her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. We are confident she is in His presence, the deepest desire of her heart now fulfilled. She left these words in her final wishes papers: God has been so good to me. There have been many sweet Christians in my life who have helped me in my walk with the Lord. I have received kinship, fellowship, and instruction. We will continue a more exquisite fellowship in Heaven with Jesus.
