Obituary: Katherine Elizabeth Mercer Stanford was the youngest child of Edward B. and Eva Ball Mercer. She was born on 28, 1920 in Galveston, Texas and passed away , May 24, 2014 in Conroe, Texas.
Katherine grew up in Houston, Texas graduating from Milby High School where she met her future husband, Thomas Wayne Stanford. married on 29, 1939 and honeymooned at the A&M-Texas Game on Thanksgiving Day. had 2 children, 2 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Her parents put Katherine in dancing classes so she would overcome her shyness and she continued to make dancing her career. Katherine taught all ages \ children & adults.
Katherines second career was banking. She was at Lakewood Bank in Dallas and when she moved to Conroe she worked for 30 years in banking.
Her first love was working for her Lord and sharing her faith with others. Katherine has been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1961. She was a member of the Beacon School Class, the United Methodist Women, The Gathering Place, The Morning Womens Bible Study and The Worship Committee where she prepared communion each month.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Glen Berwick and Dr. George Boyle for their kindness and their gentle caring during Katherines illness.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Dotye Sue Stanford of Shreveport, Louisiana; daughter-in-law, Gemma Meadows Stanford of Front Royal, Virginia, Grandchildren, Dr. Thomas W. Stanford III and his wife, Mary; Andrea (Anee) Love Stanford of Front Royal, Virginia; Great-Grandchildren, Lucy Catherine, Thomas Wayne Stanford IV, Mary Beatrice, James Brendan, John Paul, Caroline Frances Stanford. and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Wayne Stanford, Sr., son, Dr. Thomas Wayne Stanford, Jr., brother, Bernard Ned Mercer Jr., sisters, Evelyn Katherine Jenkins and Christine Mercer, brother-in- law and wife, Raymond and Rita Stanford and her parents.
A Celebration of Katherines Life will be held , May 31, 2014 at 2 P.M. at First United Methodist Church in Conroe, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in memory of Katherine to The Caring Ministry of First United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.

Obituary: A Celebration of Life Service for Johnnie Mae Stanford of Bryan will be held , 12, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Central Baptist Church in Bryan, with John Maurer, Senior Adult Minister, Central Baptist Church, and Monty Hunt, President of Bridge Ministries, officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the foyer of the sanctuary prior to the service. Interment will follow at Bryan City . Mrs. Stanford passed away at Woodridge in Grapevine, Texas.

Johnnie Mae was born in Bryan, Texas on 29, 1918, to Minnie Bullock Wiley and John Welsey Wiley, Jr. Along with her parents and two sisters, she was a charter member of Avenue Baptist Church, which would later become Central Baptist Church. She was a member of this church for 90 years.

Johnnie married the love of her life, Raymond Stanford, in 1938. were married 70 years. Johnnie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, who passed away 11, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Mary Maudelle Gray and Bessie Lou Barron, and her son-in-law, Ronald Dempsey.

She graduated from Bryan High School in 1936. An accomplished typist in High School, she went to work in the Courthouse when she was fifteen. She worked ten years in the tax office and ten years as the Deputy Clerk. spending time at home with her family, which she called her volunteer years, she accepted a position with Texas A&M Universitys Agricultural Economics Department where she worked for 10 years.

Mrs. Stanford was involved in many civic organizations. She organized the communitys first chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in 1947. In 2008, she was awarded the Beta Sigma Phi International Award of Distinction, its highest honor for her faithful and diligent years of service, and she remained active until the time of her death. She was an active life member of the Bryan Womans Club, joining in 1958. She was a member of the George Bush Foundation and the A&M Mothers Club. She was one of the founders of the Pink Ladies, Hospital Volunteers for St. Joseph Hospital. She also served on the Board of the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation . She had an active member of the Brazos Heritage Society. She was a charter member of the Opera and Performing Arts Society and Guild.

Johnnie Mae was always involved at Central Baptist Church. She started off working with children in the cradle roll department. When her youngest was 3 years old, she moved with her and worked with the 3 year-old department. Soon after, she was asked to be the Director of Centrals first Married Young Department, in which many of our current senior adults were members, and she served in that capacity for 10 years. She then moved to the 4 & 5 year old class, called the Beginner Department, and she taught there for 50 years. This filled her life with so much joy. She retired when she was 85.

Johnnie Mae has traveled the world and loved meeting people from other cultures. She attended the Baptist World Alliance in Tokyo in 1970. For many years, she volunteered with the Discovery program, which is a program that ministers to the wives of international students at A&M.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann Stanford Dempsey of St. Simons, Island, Georgia, and Mary Lou Stanford of Grapevine, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond W. Stanford Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Banning, California; five grandchildren, Raymond W. Stanford III and wife Theresa, Robert Jeffrey Dempsey, Dianne Dee Taylor and husband Eric, Noelle Salter, and Christian Stanford Hammons; eight great-grandchildren, Patrick, Allison and Meredith Dempsey, Emmeline Kinsey Taylor, Sophia Hammons, Natalie Jean Salter, Nathan James Salter, and Nisa Brazeal, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a Charity of choice.

Obituary: Jack Fred Stanford, 84, of Burnet died , 8, 2014. He was born in Burnet 30, 1930, to Platt Stanford and Agnes Faubian Stanford.

Jack was raised in and around Burnet and Lake Victor. He worked as a projectionist at the movie theater in Burnet and later got a job in management at the old Mathis Air Condition Factory in Marble Falls. Jack attended Southwest Texas State University where he played on the football team.

He moved to Euless where he spent many years working for the Thompson Can Co. He enjoyed participating in his childrens sports activities and enjoyed coaching youth football and baseball. While living in Euless he earned his private pilot license and did lots of flying.

Jack retired back to Burnet and Lake Victor in 1993 and kept himself busy in the construction business, mainly concrete construction. Jack served his country proudly in the U.S. Army and was a Master Mason for over 60 years. He was a member and past Master of Lake Victor Lodge No. 1011 AF & AM.

Jack is survived by his sons Dale Stanford and wife Cynthia of Houston, Fred Stanford and wife Dalinda of Kingsland, Paul Stanford of Euless, and daughter Donna Smith and husband Dean of Denver, Colorado. Jack is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends of Jack will be held from 5 to 7 evening 12 at Clements-Wilcox . The funeral will be held afternoon 13 at 2 at Clements-Wilcox with Masonic Burial Services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill .
