Obituary: ROBERT GUNDERSON STANEK COLONEL, U.S. ARMY RET. Robert Stanek, 86 of San Antonio passed away on 15 2010. He was born in the family home in Fairfax, South Dakota on 23 1924. He was the second of three sons, Joe, Bob and Herb, born to Joseph and Gladys Weeks Stanek. Bob was an excellent high school student. His favorite sport was basketball and he was a four-year team member. He served as class president in his sophomore, junior and senior years. Bob graduated from Fairfax High School in May of 1942. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. Training in radio maintenance, repair and operation he was sent to the South Pacific where he served in New Caledonia, Bougainville, Guadalcanal and Luzon. His overseas service was completed with a six month tour with the occupation forces in Japan. Following his discharge from military service in 1946, Bob worked briefly for Standard Oil of California and then enrolled in undergraduate studies at the University of California at Berkeley with the financial help of the G.I. Bill. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in physiology in 1951. With generous support from the state of South Dakota as a World War II veteran, he entered medical school at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1953. Bob then completed his medical school studies at the University of California in San Francisco. Throughout his last two years of medical school, Bob worked nights in a local San Francisco hospital, where he earned room and board and a modest stipend. With his doctor of medicine degree in hand, Bob started an intense five-year training program in surgery under the auspices of the U.S. Army Medicine Department. Upon completion of surgery training, he served as staff surgeon in Wurzburg, Germany and at Brooke Army Medical . In 1968, Dr Stanek was deployed to Vietnam where he commanded the 22nd Surgical Hospital and then the 24th Evacuation Hospital. He then served as the Chief of the Department of Surgery at Madigan Army Medical before being assigned to the U.S. Army Europe, first as the Surgery Consultant and later as the Chief of Professional Services. COL Staneks final military assignment was as Chief of the Consultants Division of the Surgeon General of the Army at the Pentagon. Dr Stanek was a board certified general surgeon, a Fellow of the American of Surgeons and a past member of their Board of Governors. His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and the Meritorious Service Medal. In 1952, Ellinor Engelstad emigrated from Oslo, Norway and was employed at the Norwegian Consulate in San Francisco. Ellinor and Bob met in 1953 and were married in 1955. Ellinor passed away on 1 2010 and is interred at Fort Sam Houston National . Col. Stanek is survived by two sons, Dr. Steven Stanek of San Antonio, Texas and Dr. Scott Stanek of Columbia, Maryland. Obituary: ELLINOR ENGELSTAD STANEK Ellinor was born in Drammen, Norway on 29 1922. Sometime during her childhood the family moved to Oslo, Norway where she received her early education at the time when Nazi German forces occupied the country until 1945. Ellinors love for languages was rewarded when she received the famous Black Cap in recognition of her unusual foreign language talent. She was fluent in five languages. To enhance these language skills she lived in Paris, London, and New York. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Belle Staneart; their three children, Michele van der Lek and husband, Richard; Douglas Staneart and wife Laoise; Daniel Staneart and wife, Sandy; grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Colleen and Ben; step-grandchildren, Zach and Bethany; a brother, John Staneart and wife Shirley; and his sister, Edna Holliman and Husband George; and brother Joe Staneart. He was a devout Christian who devoted his life to Christ and leading others to the Lord, and was always there to lend a helping hand. Obituary: Ralph Standridge, 81, of Georgetown, Texas formerly of West Covina and Thousand Palms, California passed away on 2, 2014 in Georgetown. Ralph was born 12, 1932 in Youngstown, Ohio to Edward and Ruth Myer Standridge. He is survived by his wife, Betty Hawks Standridge of Georgetown a son, Michael (Desiree) Standridge of Flower Mound, TX. daughter, Karrey (Richard) Turner of Parker, CO and grandchildren Nyles (Laura) Standridge of Dallas, TX, Cole (Kara) Standridge of Flower Mound, TX, Clay Standridge of Flower Mound, TX, Laurelle Turner of Parker, CO, Madison Turner of Parker, CO, Taylor Carlisle of Sagamore Hills, OH and son in law Mark Carlisle of Sagamore Hills, OH. Ralph was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Lynn Standridge Carlisle. Ralph was retired from the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department where he served for 33 years. During his service he was witness to the Watts Riots and the Sharon Tate murder. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars. He was a 25 year member of the Elks Lodge. Ralph had curly wavy blond hair, played a little golf, bowled one 300 game and could cook a pot of chili and though he lived in Texas for a number of years he still put beans in it. Ralph was not only his own man, he was a family man who loved his wife, his children and doted on his grandchildren. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be at 1:30 P.M., 12, 2014 at The Worship Place, 811 Sun City Blvd, Georgetown, Texas 78633. Inurnment will be at the Central Texas State Veterans , Killeen, Texas with Military Honors provided by the Honor Detail from Ft. Hood, Texas. Obituary: ALVARADO -- Marietta Standridge passed away on , Feb. 19, 2015. Service: 12:30 p.m. at Laurel Land Chapel of the Chimes. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. at Laurel Land in Fort Worth. Marietta was born to Charles and Anna Mae Stewart in of 1935 in Fort Worth. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Billy Charles Standridge. Survivors: Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Vickie Pearson and husband, Larry, Annetta Snowden, Alice Standridge, Anna Dalby and husband, Martin, Rita Romaker and husband, Paul; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Francis Stewart Jr.; nieces; nephews; extended family; and dear friends. |
