Obituary: Services for Mary Kathryn Squier, 90, of Lubbock will be held 10 am , May 27, 2014 at Resthaven s Abbey Chapel, with her nephew Gary Cross officiating, interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will gather to receive friends at the Resthaven , May 26 from 6 to 8 pm. Mrs. Squier passed away May 22, 2014 after lengthy illness. She was born 30, 1923 in Kiamichi Bottoms, OK, to Jeff and Ella Belle Cross. Kathryn and Howard Squier were married 4, 1951 and resided in Lubbock most of the time since that date. Mrs. Squier is survived by her husband, Howard; sons, Art and Jeff Whitaker and daughter Kathy Cox; ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Opal French and Shirley Graham; brother Billy Cross and wife Phyllis of Plainview; sister-in-law Virgie Cross of Lubbock; sister-in-law Charlotte Cross of Dallas; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jack, Les and Kenneth Cross and sister-in-law Hazel. Kathy was an active participant, book keeper, office and payroll manager for H.E Squire Construction as they built and paved roads and streets across the South Plains and beyond for more than thirty years. Kathy was also active as a leader with Girl Scouts in earlier years. She and Howard traveled much of the United States with the Pharr West R V group and more; including Canada, while Trailering with Les and Virgie Cross. also enjoyed world travels from Greenland to Australia and many other countries. Obituary: Howard Edward Squier (Pa) was born 9, 1921 in the Mabledean Community, and died 23, 2016 at his home in Lubbock. He grew up in the Iowa Park and Wichita Falls area, but Lubbock was home for most of his life. With his brother Louie, Howard joined the Navy, serving 1942 - 1946. As a Seaman in the South Pacific with the 7th Fleet, he served on various ships and islands.Returning from service Howard worked for Stafford Paving, before starting his own business with dump trucks. He later went into construction, with paving, dirt work, and street and highway building. Howard and Kathryn Cross were married 4, 1951 and were together 61 years until her death. Their construction business took them many places, including Lawton, Oklahoma, Big Spring, Baird, and Turkey. This also included from Mineral Wells to Morton and from Silverton to Abilene. As the family grew they stayed in Lubbock as a home base with Howard making long commutes. The Squiers enjoyed traveling with the Pharr-West Hitchhikers Club as well as independent RVíng. Howard liked hunting and loved to fish, pursuing game from Colorado into Mexico. The family would like to express appreciation to Randy and Susan Andrews for providing access to Howards favorite fishing hole which gave him many hours of enjoyment. Howard leaves an extended family and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn and son, Art. Immediate survivors include son Jeff Whitaker and wife Patsy, daughter Kathy Jane Cox, daughter-in-law Glenna Whitaker, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family extends appreciation to Accolade Hospice, Best-In- , and to Tekisha Wright for their loving care. Gary Cross, a nephew, will conduct the service.
