Obituary: Sgt. Thomas Zachary Spitzer, USMC, age 23, was killed in action in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on 25, 2014 while on patrol. Thomas was born 28, 1991 in Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego, California to John and Jean Spitzer. A U.S. Navy family, they transferred to the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation on Andros Island, Bahamas. Thomas spent his early childhood playing on white sand beaches with his younger brother, Nicholas. When the family transferred to Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC, in 1995, Thomas attended grade school at St. Francis of Assissi Catholic School. A popular and excellent student, Thomas was active in soccer, baseball and Cub Scouts. Following his fathers discharge from the U.S. Navy, Thomas and the family moved to New Braunfels, TX in 2001. Thomas attended Comal ISD schools and graduated from Canyon High School in 2009. While in middle school, Thomas was active in football, baseball, soccer and band. In high school, Thomas participated in football, baseball and power-lifting. During his high school years, Thomas worked for Rocking R River Rides and Montana Mikes Steakhouse in New Braunfels in the summer and after school. high school, Thomas joined the United States Marine Corps with his close friend, John Farias. Thomas attended boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA from to 2009. Upon graduation, he attended the School of Infantry (SOI) at Camp Pendleton, CA. While at SOI, Thomas was trained as an infantryman and achieved a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of Mortarman. Upon graduation from SOI, Thomas was assigned to the Weapons , 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division based in Twentynine Palms, CA. Thomas was deployed to the Pacific with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Essex. Thomas was deployed to Sangin, Helmand Province, Afghanistan from to 2012 with 1/7 Marines. Upon return to the U.S., Thomas reenlisted and joined the Sniper Platoon of 1/7 Marines. Thomas deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2014 where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2014. Thomas became engaged to Ms. Casey Neef on New Years Day, 2014 at the ice cream shop where they first started dating in the 8th grade. Thomas and Casey planned to be married on 18, 2015. Thomas will be especially remembered for his integrity, courage, reliability and his cheerful smile in the face of adversity. As his former platoon commander wrote to his parents, \\I personally witnessed Thomas do incredible things. The calmness he brought to a fight eased the stress of those around him, enabling them to fight more efficiently. He also always acted with honor. He did the right things for the right reasons. Survivors include his parents, John and Jean Spitzer, his younger brother, LCpl Nicholas Spitzer, USMC, and his fiancé, Ms. Casey Neef, all of New Braunfels, TX, grandparents DT & Hazel Spitzer of Clifton TX and Lee & Sharon Bellar of AZ and UT. Thomas also had numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who adored him. Visitation will be held for relatives, friends, and well-wishers at Zoellers , 615 Landa St., New Braunfels, TX from 2:00 pm to 7:00pm on , 06, 2014. services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 181 S. Santa Clara, New Braunfels, TX at 12:00 pm on , 07, 2014. Thomas will be transported via motorcade to Ft. Sam Houston National in San Antonio, TX for interment immediately following services. The family requests memorial contributions be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Semper Fi Fund (SFF), 825 Blvd, Ste 102, PMB 609, Oceanside, CA, 92057, which is set up to provide immediate financial assistance and lifetime support for wounded, critically-ill and injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. He attended high school at Spring Woods High School, graduated in 1974, and played football at Lamar University. He helped establish Bill Spitzer & Associates in 1978, serving as President/CEO since 1994. Corbin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time cooking for friends and family. He relished opportunities to make people laugh and loved being the life of the party. He also was an active member of St. Peters United Methodist Church for 32 years, and served on the Board of Trustees. Corbin is preceded in death by his father, Bill Spitzer. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Patty; son, Connor, and his wife Jessica; daughter, Lexy, and her husband Alan Bumpass; mother, Shirley; brother, Cullen, and his wife Jodie; nieces, Jordan, and her husband Neil Simpson, Jensen, and Jaye; brother-in-law, Joe Persohn, and his wife Lenita; and nephews Joseph, Joshua, and Jason Persohn. Obituary: Arnold Arnie Spitzer, age 71 passed away unexpectedly on 24. He was a native of Sunnyside in Queens, NY and though long removed from New York City, he carried a piece of New York with him everywhere he went. He would mystify his family with peculiar un-Texan phrases like Whats doin?. Arnie served in the U.S. Army between wars as an M.P. stationed at Ft. Bragg, and subsequently made a career as an auto mechanic working for several different Chevy and Cadillac dealerships in the Austin area. He retired in 2008. Arnie was passionate about life and lived each day to its fullest. Besides his love for his dear wife, Natalie, of over 23 years, his other loves included family, friends, boating, and most especially food. Arnie was particularly passionate about anything that was or contained cheese. His family and wife would often refer to him as a little rat. A block of Cheddar cheese had a very short lifetime when he was around. Pepsi was also a favorite and he would rather go thirsty than have a Coke. Arnie was a big kid at heart. He was fond of 50s music, comics, TV, and toys of any kind. He new was never at a loss relating to his 4 grandchildren. He enjoyed shooting with his grandson Avery. Arnie was a Trekkie and recorded just about any episode he could of Star Trek off the TV. Whenever life became frustrating or incomprehensible to him, he would often look skyward and mutter Beam me up Scotty! The outdoors was a passion and boating was a favorite pastime. You could frequently find him on one or another of Austins area lakes. He enjoyed camping and driving the back roads of Texas from Big Bend to the Sabine. Arnie is survived by his loving wife Natalie Spitzer, daughter Lisa Spitzer and spouse Tisha Garcia, daughter Deena Bouton and husband Shane, Stepson Dr. Alan Kaye and wife Shannon, and sister Madeline Garguilo and husband Louis. He is also survived by grandchildren Avery Bouton, Ethan Kaye, Kayla Kaye, and Ellie Rose Bouton. He will be sorely missed by all. In his own words: is the Hunter. |
