Obituary: Mary Catherine Towart Spijkerman, born 8, 1937, in New York City, died peacefully on , 28, 2015, in Kingwood, at the age of 77 with her family by her side. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. , May 13, at Moore , followed by inurnment at Moore Memorial Gardens. Her family will receive friends as of 10 a.m. Mary grew up in the Washington Heights neighborhood of upper Manhattan in New York City where she graduated from Mother Cabrini High School. In 1958 she completed a master's degree in biology from Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore, Maryland. She met her husband of 55 years, Jon Spijkerman, at this time. were married at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church in lower Manhattan in 1960 and lived in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Austin, and Alva, Oklahoma, before settling permanently in the Fort Worth area in 1975. Mary raised three children and enjoyed four beautiful grandchildren who brought her great joy. She loved to travel, enjoyed swimming in her pool during summer months and was an avid Dallas Cowboys' fan. She retired in 2005, after a career spent at Texas of Osteopathic Medicine, Baylor Research Institute and University of North Texas Science . Survivors: Husband, Jon Spijkerman, Ph.D.; daughters, Terri Spijkerman of Houston and Tina Spijkerman of s'Heerenberg, Netherlands; son, Bill Spijkerman and wife, Tammy, of Kingwood; grandchildren, Zia, Maxine, Mae and Leo. |

Obituary: Dalton B. Spies, 84, passed away 4, 2011. He was born in Victoria 20, 1927, to the late Bernhard R. and Lydia Koch Spies. Mr. Spies was employed by Tennessee Gas Transmission for ten years and Central Power and Light for thirty-one years where he retired in 1988. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Mr. Spies was raised in the Dernal Community. He attended grade school at Crescent Valley, junior and senior years at Patti Welder High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy. completing basic training he was assigned to the amphibious troop transport ship the U.S.S. Dane P.A. 238 at Portland, Oregon. He served in the Pacific, Hawaii, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Truk, Peleliu, Guam and Okinawa. He was discharged in 1946 and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4146. He enjoyed working in his garden and work shop restoring and refinishing antique furniture. He is survived by his daughter, Debra L. Clark and husband, Gary; granddaughter, Courtney Clark, grandson, Kevin Clark; sister, Irene Martin; brother, Harvey Spies and wife, Shirley; two nieces, Lisa Drapela and husband, Russell, and Elane Spies; three nephews, Dwight Martin, Kenneth Martin and wife, Silvia, and David Martin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Magdalene (Maggie) Spies, his son, Darwin Spies and granddaughter, Amber Clark. Visitation for Mr. Spies will be held 7, 2011, from 6 to 8 PM from the Rosewood Chapels. Services will be held , 8, 2011, at 10 AM from the Trinity Lutheran Church with Don Angerstein officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens with full military honors conducted by the Victoria Veterans Council. Pallbearers will be Kevin Clark, Dwight Martin, Henry Hosek, III, Logan Sauer, Doyle Koenig and Robert Obsta. Honorary Pallbearers will be all members of Trinity Lutheran Church, cousins and friends. Obituary: Carolyn Louise Post (Carol) Spies, a 45 year resident of Dallas, was born 5, 1938, and passed into the hands of the Lord on 5, 2015, after a short bout with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald, her four sons, John and his fiancé, Bobbi, of Durango, CO, Robert and his wife, Mindy, of Sacramento, CA, Richard and his wife Sabrina, of Argyle, TX, and James of Kansas City, KS, and her six grandchildren, Ashley, Sydney, Steele, Emily, Nikki, and Luke. She was preceded in Death by her parents Helen and Wilmarth Post and her sister, Margaret. Upon her sisters death, Carol became surrogate mother for her sisters four children, Tom, Jennifer, Steve, and Dave and their families. Carol graduated from Western Reserve University (now Case Western Reserve University) in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics Education and received an Associate degree in in 1978 from El Centro Community . At Western Reserve she was a member of the Sigma Psi local sorority, Phi Upsilon Omicron Society, and member of the Economics Club. Along with her then fiancé, Donald, she was also a journalist for the college newspaper. Carol retired in 1996 from nursing after 18 years at Medical City Dallas, where she had been a recovery room volunteer for four years before attending nursing school. Often referred to as The Energizer Bunny by family and friends, Carol was full of joy, enthusiasm, and energy. Carol was always impeccably attired and never without a smile. Carol was a member of the DAR, Northwood Womans Club and Dallas Womans Club, where she was also a member of the Marianne Scruggs Garden Club. She was an active member of the Crystal Charity Ball for 18 years where she served in many different leadership roles, most notable, Chairman of the Childrens book. Carols volunteer/community activities are too long to list but included the Northwood Hills Elementary School PTA, Dallas Museum of Art League, of Dimes Womens Auxiliary, Dallas Ballet Womens Auxiliary, Grand Heritage Ball, National Kidney Foundation Womens Auxiliary, DABS Womens Council, Dallas Opera Womens Board, Dallas Symphony Orchestra League, Dallas Summer Musicals Board of Directors, TACA, Salvation Army Womens Auxiliary, and on and on. In the past four years she became an avid Mah-Jongg player and loved the game and the friends she made from her various Mah-Jongg groups. Carol was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, served on the Administrative Board, and was a member of the Wesleyan Fellowship Class. Most recently she served, along with her husband, in the role of communications and publicity coordinator for this class. Her joyful presence and her fine editing and proofreading skills will be a loss. Of all the things she has done, Carol was most proud of her four sons, and their families, and what they have accomplished. The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to New Century Hospice for their loving comfort and care. A Memorial Service at Highland Park Methodist Church will be at 10:30 AM on 28, so that her family members from across the country can be available for the service.
