Obituary: Private memorial services for Peggy Grider Spencer, 73, of Lufkin, will be held at a later date. Ms. Spencer was born 11, 1943 in Cleveland , Arkansas, the daughter of the late Maggie (Spakes) and Lester V. Grider. She passed away , 11, 2017, in a local hospital. Ms. Spencer was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She graduated from the Mainland with an accounting degree, and retired from U.T.M.B. as an accountant. She enjoyed gardening and loved family get-togethers. Many of her family and friends referred to her as Aunt Peg. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Tonya (Spencer) and Jimmy Johnston of Lufkin and Mindy (Spencer) and Joey Hanes of Diboll; grandson, Trace K. Johnston; sisters, Barbara Honey Grider Grote of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Joan Perry of Warren, Arkansas; brothers, Sonny Grider of Bryant, Arkansas, John Grider and James Peanut Grider, both of Warren, Arkansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. In addition to her parents, Ms. Spencer was preceded in death by 4 brothers; 2 sisters; and her loving nephew, Brent West. Obituary: Peggy was born on 12, 1936 in Marceline, Missouri and ascended to her Lords arms on 20, 2010. She married Ronnie Spencer in 1974. Before her marriage, she enjoyed a long career in show business. She performed with the Don Brooks Three doing shows at the Playboy Clubs, Las Vegas and The Adolphus Hotel in Dallas. When she and Ronnie married she was singing in Kansas City with the 26 piece orchestra of Warren Durret. Peggy left her singing career to raise her growing family. In addition to singing, she also exibited talent as an artist, painting oils as well as china. Left to cherish so many wonderful memories are her husband of 36 years, Ron; daughter, Allison Rener (Roger); son, Ryan Spencer (Christy); grandson, Rain; brothers: Jack Barnes (Becky) and Jim Barnes (Coleen); many nieces and nephews, and friends all over the country. Obituary: service for Paul Henry Spencer, 78, of Nacogdoches will be , Oct. 11, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. in the Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with the Rev. John Spurgeon officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Mr. Spencer passed away peacefully at his home in Nacogdoches on , Oct. 8, 2014. He was born May 13, 1936, in Douglass, Texas, to William Henry Bill Spencer and Lena Goodman Spencer. Paul grew up in Douglass, Texas, and worked side-by-side with his parents in their family business. He worked for many years in Nacogdoches for N.W. Smith, Will Kendrick, and Mike Perry motor companies. He was co-owner of Spencer-Layton Wrecker Service. Paul became a broiler farmer in the late 1970s and was named a top grower for Pilgrims Pride on several occasions. He was a dreamer, a builder, and an innovator. He was hardworking and a very talented designer of machinery and equipment. He sought ways to make life easier for others. He could repair or build just about anything, and his expertise was highly valued by those who knew him. He was a mechanic, farmer, and rancher who loved his family and put them before all other things. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Billy Walters. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and is survived by his wife, Marcil Wilburn Spencer of Nacogdoches; daughter, Lisha Spencer of Rusk; grandson, Matthew Tyler of Nacogdoches; grandson, Joshua Tyler and wife, Mary, of Kilgore; granddaughter, Allison Whitton of Station; great-granddaughter, Abigail Olivia Tyler of Kilgore; sister, Billie Walters of Nacogdoches; sister-in-law, Shirley Bishop and husband, Ken, of Nacogdoches; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pallbearers will be Henry Touchette, Bob Owens, Robert Wilson, James Bishop, Jon Bishop, and Noe Foxworth. Honorary pallbearers will be LaTina Watts, Jennifer Rudisill, Paula Horton, Veronica Danielson, Mechelle Roberts, and Stephanie Driver, who provided many hours of care and compassion for Mr. Spencer. The family would like to extend special thanks to Brenda Johnson, RN; W.E. Furniss, MD, and his staff; Heart to Heart Hospice; Texas ; and the caring nursing staff of Nacogdoches Medical and Oak Manor . Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. , Oct. 10 at the funeral home.
