Obituary: Juan Ruben Soliz, 59, was called home on 13, 2012. Ruben was born 12, 1952 in Port Lavaca to Savas and Carmen Martinez Soliz. Ruben was employed with Formosa Plastics Corporation for 19 years as a Chemical Process Operator and was also a member of Our Lady of the Gulf. Ruben is survived by his loving, devoted and precious wife, Norma Longoria Soliz; the apple of his eye daughter Princess Carissa Lynn and his son,Prince and best friend Erik; his father and mother Savas and Carmen Martinez Soliz of Port Lavaca, his three sisters; Isabel Sandoval, Rita Burke (Stephen) of Port Lavaca and Christina Daspit (David) of Kingwood; his five brothers, David Soliz (Josie), Carlos Soliz (Norma) of Port Lavaca, Edward Soliz (Sandy) of Houston, Phillip Soliz (Esther) and Abel Soliz (Alice) of Victoria. Ruben also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, beloved grandnieces and grandnephews. Ruben was affectionately known to many as Bear because of his loving and compassionate nature. He was the perfect example of what it means to be a devoted, loving, Christian husband and family man. God, family and the love of his country were the pillars of his being. There was never a person who crossed his path that he didn acknowledge with his beautiful warm smile which was the true signature of his kind soul. Ruben loved being with his family. He loved taking daily rides to the bay front with his wife, children, father, brothers or friends.it didn matter. This was his moment to share his love and time with his beloved family and friends. Ruben loved the Sandcrabs and considered himself the #1 fan. His pride and spirit followed the Crabs to every game around Texas. He donned the number #64 as a linebacker with the graduating class of 1971. He enjoyed his rides to the Aransas Wildlife Refuge as often as he could. He always had an eager anticipation knowing that his nephews were coming into town and he knew that would be a sure ride out to the refuge with them. His nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews knew they could not go there unless their Bear went with them. Along with his love of fishing, he enjoyed his quiet nature walks with the Lord. He was blessed with a carefree nature; it allowed him to embrace the beauty of Gods abundant gifts. He literally stopped and smelled the roses. Ruben never traveled without his Texas maps. All of his maps have all been worn and torn like an old pair of jeans as he would make many markings on the map to chart his travels. But the ultimate journey was not to be found on a map - it was his journey home to be with our Heavenly Father. Jesus called upon his favorite map reader. One of Rubens favorite memories was his love of the United States Marine Corps. Not only was he a dedicated and faithful soldier, he was forever devoted to his Corps brothers. Oorah! Ruben was honored and proud to have served his country. Semper Fi! Not only was Ruben an inspiration to his wife and children, he was an exceptional uncle to his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. were proud and honored to have him as their uncle. A time of visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on , 17, 2012 with a Rosary to begin at 7 pm at the Richardson Colonial . Mass will be held at 10 am on at Our Lady of The Gulf Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Port Lavaca Veterans Joint Honor Guard and the United States Marine Corp will follow at the Port Lavaca .
