Obituary: Frank H Smith , Jr., age 84, died 20, 2016 in San Antonio. Born 22, 1932 to Frank H. and Willie Mae Johnson Smith in Diboll, Texas, he was one of four children. Frank grew up in the East Texas lumber town delivering newspapers on horseback and singing on a local radio show. graduating in 1949 from Diboll High School, he joined the US Navy. Trained as a salvage diver and an airfield crash crew team member, he served in San Diego and Hawaii. Leaving the Navy in 1953 and joining the Army in 1954, he served 22 years achieving the rank of Master Sergeant and Master Diver. He unhesitatingly served two tours in Korea between 1950 and 1956; and a combat tour in Viet Nam, 1966 - 1968, as an underwater demolitions expert and port construction engineer. While stationed in Bayonne New Jersey, he met and married Helen Margaret McAvoy of Jersey City, New Jersey in 1954 after meeting her at a roller skating rink. Their happy marriage of 62 years was blessed with two sons, David Wayne Smith and Frank John Smith. The family traveled together around the world living in France, Virginia, Okinawa, and Texas. A dedicated Mason and devoted father, Frank was very active with his sons, David and Frank, encouraging them in fishing, sailing, camping, and mechanical tinkering and in Boy Scouts as an Assistant Scoutmaster. Most importantly, he instilled outstanding virtues and a sense of honor in both his sons ensuring their future success. retiring from the Army in 1973, Frank and Helen made their home in San Antonio, Texas. His post military careers included owner of a VW and Porsche repair business and working at port construction overseas. As a Deck Engineer with Marine Explorer Bob Ballard of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute saw Frank take part in a number of world-wide explorations including the voyage that discovered the WW II German battleship, the Bismarck. He also spent a number of years working on Texas A&Ms research vessel, The Gyre, helping to train future generations of marine scientists and explorers. his final retirement, Frank was active with the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion in San Antonio. He and Helen, along with their beloved dachshunds, also loved going to their second home near Galveston to once again enjoy the smell of the ocean breezes. He is survived by his wife Helen; son David Smith and his wife Debra Carter of Houston; son Frank Smith and his wife Dawn Smith, and granddaughter Megan Smith of San Antonio; brothers Charles Smith and Clifford Smith; and sister, Barbara Bex. Obituary: Frank P. Smitty Smith, 82, of Victoria passed away , 30, 2011. He was born 13, 1929, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Clarence Rogers and Gladys Miller Smith Wingo. Frank was a dedicated employee of Union Carbide for thirty-eight years, beginning his career in Charleston, West Virginia and transferring to Texas in 1964. retirement he was employed by Gulf Coast Wood Products and the Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission, from which he was named employee of the year in 1994. Frank was an active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church serving on the Hospitality Committee and various other service committees. He delivered Meals on Wheels for six years, and was a charter member of the Friends of Devereaux, and worked with the organization for fourteen years. Frank was also a coach for Victoria Little League. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who also enjoyed gardening and barbequing. Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Dolores Daugherty Smith; daughters, Bonnie Green and husband, David, of Victoria, and Paulette Pribyl and husband, Paul, of Friendswood; sons, Roger Smith and wife, Leslee, and Lon Smith, all of Victoria; grandchildren, Matthew, Roger, Tamara, Clint, Chad and Collin; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Dalton, Dustin, Davin and John-David. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Bayes. Obituary: Frank Steven Smith was born on 24, 1937 to Frank Smith and Elsie Marie Stevens in Fort Sill Oklahoma. Frank, beloved husband of Patricia Anne Smith, father, grandfather, and great grandfather entered into rest to join his Heavenly Father on 07, 2010. Frank had a passion for football, fishing and his family and friends. He graduated from Anadarko High School in 1955. Attended Miami University in Florida where he played football for the Hurricanes. Frank continued his passion for football when he was drafted into the Pittsburgh Steelers where he played professional football from 1959-62. He married his beloved wife, Patricia Anne Barnes, on May 25th, l972. He owned a Medical Services where he served Houston and Dallas companies for more than 30 years. He refereed local Houston high school football and basketball games for 27 years. The family joined and became active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in l974. There Frank served on several callings within the church on missionary works, teachings and within The Bishopric. He is survived by his wife Patricia Anne Smith; Brothers Tony Smith of Gatlinburg Tennessee and Jim Smith of Corona California; Children Stephanie Smith, Tommy Hampton and Michael Hampton; Nephews Steve Cost of Amarillo Texas, David Malone of Colorado and Larry Velazquez; Nieces Marsha Bassity of Colorado and Eva Velazquez; Grandchildren Christina Luffman, Taylor Cummins, Brandon Cummins, Jack Hampton and Steven Hampton; Great Grandchildren Wendy Garcia and Carlos Garcia IV. Obituary: Frank Kavanagh Smith, 88, passed away on 17, 2010. Known as "Smitty" by family and friends, he was a native of Omaha, Nebraska, where he received a B.S. from Creighton University. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII as a radar specialist. moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1948 with his wife, the late Dorothy Marie, Smitty began his 35+ year career with DuPont, as a chemist and a salesman. One of the highlights of his career was testing paint samples on the upper levels of the Golden Gate Bridge. Smitty had a wide variety of interests, including art, the outdoors, science, space exploration, and music, especially American jazz. retirement from DuPont, he taught himself how to cut and facet stones and gems, many of which were showcased in sterling silver jewelry of his own design. Smitty was especially proud of his 52-year marriage to Dorothy, and of his work as a cancer survivor volunteer with M. D. Anderson hospital. He leaves behind two sons, a daughter, seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews. His family wishes to thank the community of the Village on the Park in Friendswood, Texas for their support, as well as the A-Med hospice and Tuscany Village staff. Obituary: Francis Gene Smith Francis Gene Smith was born , May 13, 1931 in Santa Anna, Texas to Richard and Cora Smith. Gene graduated in 1948 from Santa Anna High School. He grew up in the Baptist church, leading the choir throughout high school and worked at the local drug store as a soda jerk. Gene served in the United States Air Force for four years. He was stationed in France for two years during the Korean War and his time there sparked his love of traveling. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1957 with a Bachelor in Business Administration. While attending U.T. in Austin, he worked for the Texas School for the Deaf and served as President of Delta Sigma Pi. Gene married the love of his life, Neva Jean Rehm, on 11, 1958 in Rockwood, Texas. He then worked for thirty-five years at Johns Manville as an award winning salesman. Beyond family time, Gene loved to paint. He was an avid and accomplished painter across many mediums. The walls and hallways in his home are filled with paintings, but what really makes us smile are the special pictures and cards he created for family and friends. Gene loved to travel anywhere, from Victoria, Texas to Paris to Hong Kong and everywhere in between. Gene never met a stranger and loved everyone. He was always singing and had music in his heart. He was a member of The Heights Church in Richardson, Texas and was most recently part of the Eagles Fellowship Group. Gene passed away May 16, 2016 at his home in Richardson, Texas peacefully surrounded by family after celebrating his 85th birthday. He will truly be missed and remain forever in our hearts. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Glenn Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Neva Smith; three sons, Jeff Smith and his wife, Mariana, Greg Smith and his wife, Lil and Todd Smith and his wife, Alexa; four grandchildren, Anca, Will, Ali, and Dean; a host of nieces and nephews, and other family members and friends.
