Obituary: David Newland Smith, 82, was called home 5, 2015. Born in the Appalachian Mountains in Brevard, N.C., on 17, 1932. David came from a family of moonshiners and bootleggers. He chose a different path, joining the Air Force after graduating from Brevard High School in 1951, and serving during the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Betty Jane Kipp, on a blind date in May 1955 while stationed at Bergstrom AFB. were engaged three months later and married in Austin on 6, 1956.
David resigned his commission with the Air Force in 1956 in order to attend the University of Texas, graduating in 1959 with a BFA in Radio Broadcasting. While attending UT, he was offered a position at KTBC-TV, where he spent his entire 35-year career as a photographer/reporter. He covered many significant events such as the Charles Whitman shooting and the growth of Austin, including the expansion of IH-35 from a 2-lane highway to the corridor it is today.
David enjoyed many hobbies including arrowhead hunting, genealogy, and playing bluegrass music on the guitar, banjo, and dulcimer. He was an avid bird watcher and a former member of the Capitol Clown Club, where he was known as Juggles. He was a devout member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
David is preceded in death by his wife Betty and by his parents Helen and Malcolm Smith (Bud and Buck). He is survived by his children Daniel Z. Smith and wife Jeannell, Holly Wright and husband Michael, Evangeline Rose Domel, and Shawn Marie Cansler; grandchildren Andrew, Aaron, and Annabel Smith, Justin and Brittany Wright, Carson and Bailey Domel, David, Kevin, and Christina Dunnigan, and John and Hannah Cansler; and 2 great-grandchildren Nathaniel Smith and Avery Arnold. He is also survived by brother Raymond Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family expresses its gratitude to the staff at Horizon Bay (Brookdale) for the care extended to David. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. 8, 2015, at Ramsey , 5600 Williams Dr., Georgetown, TX. services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on , 9, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 200 W. Obituary: David Larkin D.J. Smith, Jr. 43, of San Angelo went to be with his Lord and Savior on , 8, 2015 in Katy, Texas. D.J. was born 10, 1971 in San Angelo, Texas to Rev. David L. and Gaynell Park Smith. He grew up in San Angelo and graduated from Central High School. high school, D.J. moved to Colorado and after a few years he returned home to San Angelo. He married J. Gutierrez on 9, 2010 in San Angelo and they were blessed with almost five beautiful years together. Their daughter Kamryn or Kambug as D.J. affectionately referred to her, was the apple of his eye. He truly adored his family. D.J was an optician at a local eye care center, but he had numerous other trades as well. He worked at Lee Junior High for a short time, was a craftsman in the construction business and a martial arts instructor. His true passion in life was for the Lord, his family and taking care of others. He was a caregiver by nature and he always wanted to make sure everyone was as comfortable as they could be. D.J would go out of his way to take care of people, especially his family. He had many interests in his life; among them were his love of snowboarding, going to the firing range, martial arts, watching television, especially the history channel and being and avid NFL football fan. D.J. was a very gifted talented young man who truly loved his family and we will carry him in our hearts forever! He is survived by his Wife, J. Obituary: David Mottley Smith, 91, of Bastrop, Texas died peacefully in his sleep on , 02, 2014 after a long, healthy and happy life.

Born in Greenville, Mississippi on 24, 1922 to Elvira Mottley and William Burris Smith, David was the seventh of eight children. As a soldier in the United States Army, he served in Europe during World War II and received numerous commendations including two Bronze Stars. At wars end, David returned to the USA a 1st Lieutenant and went back to Mississippi State , earning a Bachelors of Science degree in 1949. Throughout the 1950s, David worked as an oilfield survey engineer in west Texas as well as in the South American countries of Argentina, Venezuela and Peru. He had many fond memories of his time in El Tigre, Venezuela and loved to share stories from that time in his life.
When he had time away from work, David would return to his home state of Mississippi and spend as much time with his mother, brothers, sister, nieces and nephews as he could. The kids all loved to go for rides along the levee in Uncle Davids convertible. In 1961, David returned to the States for good and continued working as a surveying and design engineer in New Orleans and Houston, ultimately moving to Bastrop, Texas in 1966 to work for TRACOR in Austin. In 1973, David opened the Old Dime Store on Main Street in downtown Bastrop and continued the business in two different buildings under several names until his retirement in 2001. David M. Smith was a soldier, student, son, father, grandfather, uncle, inventor, patent holder, mathematician, craftsman, gardener and lover of all things pecan (especially pie).

David is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Burris, Francis, James, Raleigh, Paul, Marvin; sister Patricia; nephews James and Lawson and niece Sandy.

David is survived by son, Shane K. Smith of Canyon Lake, Texas and daughter Gina Gambrell of Austin, Texas.

A service celebrating the life of David M. Smith will be held at 2 pm on , 6, 2014 at the Marrs-Jones-Newby in Bastrop, Texas.

Graveside Military Honors and Burial will be at 2 pm on , 8, 2014, at the Central Texas State Veterans on Highway 195 in Killeen, Texas.

Obituary: David Eric Smith, age 43, went to be with the Lord after his 5 year battle with cancer, on 4, 2014 in Austin, Texas. David, the son of Gerald and Eileen Smith, was born 9, 1970 in Anchorage, Alaska.

He was a 1989 graduate of Bartlett High School in Anchorage. Throughout high school he enjoyed bodybuilding and other physical activities. David began his firefighting career at the University of Alaska- Fairbanks. His move to Texas began in the mid 90s to attend the Firefighter Academy in Station. Upon completion in 1995, he moved to Austin, Texas to pursue a career with the Austin Fire Department.

He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church were he served faithfully in the youth ministry. It was here where he met his wife, Elishea. He encouraged many people in their faith and attended mission trips including serving as a counselor for a Missionary Kids Camp in Chiang Mai, Thailand. David was proud to serve as a Lieutenant for the Austin Fire Department. His love for the job was evident in all that he did for our community. He worked in the Special Operations division for a time and helped out during Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. David was always passionate about caring for his family and others. Even throughout his battle the life verse he shared with everyone was Romans 5:3-5, \\.we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us...

David is survived by his beautiful wife of 17 years, Elishea Smith and their two amazing children, Kenneth Isaac and Denali Nicole, all of Round Rock, Texas. He is also survived by his parents, Gerald and Eileen Smith, his brother, Brian Smith and his two sisters, Aniesha Earles and Sharon Manassa. David will be greeted in heaven by family and friends who have gone before him.

Obituary: Services for David Henry Smith, 77, of Harker Heights, will be at 1 p.m. at St. Christophers Episcopal Church in Killeen with the Rev. Paul Moore officiating.

Mr. Smith died Aug. 16, 2010, in Killeen. He was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Woodson, Ill.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He married Lorna L. McMullin on Sept. 7, 1958, in Champaign, Ill. Together, they owned Buttons and Bows Daycare in Killeen and Arts Desire Gift Shop in Harker Heights. She preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 2003.

Mr. Smith taught special education in the Killeen Independent School District from 1980 until his retirement in 2002.

He married Sandra Montesa on Feb. 20, 2009, in Killeen.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy, of Harker Heights; three daughters, Lesa Dillon of Bloomington, Ill., Holly Miller of Harker Heights and Angela Hernandez of Moody; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Crawford-Bowers in Killeen is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary: Daryl L. Smith

Daryl L. Smith, 79, of Midland, TX passed away of heart failure on , 12, 2010, with the full graces of the Catholic Church. Daryl had been a resident of the Vogel of Manor Park in Midland for assistance with Alzheimers disease and received gentle care at the Midland Hospice after a recent heart attack.


Daryl was born 7, 1930, in Clifton KS to Bernard F. and Elsie G. (Knox) Smith. During his childhood, he had lived in several towns along the Northern Natural Gas pipeline, settling in South Sioux City, NE, graduating from High School there in 1948, where he met the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Darline L. Miller. The two were married on 30, 1950 at St Michaels Catholic Church in South Sioux City. Daryl attended Wayne State and the University of Nebraska graduating as a civil engineer in 1952. Like his father, he too worked for Northern Natural Gas and lived in several towns including Lyons, NE and Perry, IA. In 1956, Daryl was promoted to the home office in Omaha, NE where he worked until a promotion to Regional Manager transferred him to Midland Texas, in 1972. Daryl was an active member in the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. When offered early retirement in 1986, Daryl went back to school to study business administration. Daryl often commented on how much tougher math had gotten since he was last in school. He received his MBA from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 1989.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Frances, daughter-in-law Lisa Loveless Smith, and granddaughter Stephanie. Daryl is survived by his loving wife Darline and their nine children, daughter Liane (Tony) Gulizia of Longmont, CO; daughter Cindy (Jerry) OHagan of North Chapel, NC; son Rev. David Smith, S.J. of Griswold, IA.; daughter Shari (Greg) Folger of Midland, TX; son Bryan (Sandy) Smith of Carrollton, TX; son Allan Smith, DDS of Bellevue, NE; son Lance (Shar) Smith of Midland, TX; son Danny (Mary) Smith, DDS of Papillion, NE; and daughter Susie (Patrick) Vandeventer of Grapevine, TX; 27 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren; two sisters Dee (Leo Pat) Engel of South Sioux City, NE, and Joleen (Ray) Jones of South Sioux City, NE; and a brother Dr Jerry (Charlotte) Smith of Omaha, NE.

A prayer vigil will be held at Ellis , 7:00 PM, with funeral Mass at St. Anns Catholic Church in Midland, Texas on , 11:00 AM, and a second funeral Mass at St. Michaels in So. Sioux City, NE on at 1:00 PM, with Rosary at 7:00 PM on at Becker-Hunt in So. Sioux, and inurnment at St Michaels Catholic in South Sioux City, NE. are under the direction of Ellis , 801 Andrews Hwy.
