Obituary: Charles C. (Chuck) Smith, Sr. slipped from this world on 17, 2016 at the age of 83 years. Chuck was born on 15, 1933, the first of two sons born to William Gilbert (Gib) Smith and Dorothy (Dot) Jewel Hollingsworth Smith. Chuck was a lifelong member of the Handley United Methodist Church, which was built by members of the Smith clan. Later he was a member of the Cahill United Methodist Church in Alvarado, TX. Chuck enjoyed the great outdoors whether hunting, fishing, or simply walking through the woods admiring Gods handiwork. A lifelong carpenter, having lived the majority of his life in his beloved Fort Worth, he had a hand in a great number of buildings, churches, and schools around the Metroplex. He took great pride in his craft. Not only was he the son of a carpenter, but he was the father of carpenters as well. Chuck is survived by his brother William Gilbert Smith, Jr. and his wife Barbara in Miami, OK.; the love of his life, Kathryn Harris Smith; sons Charles C. Smith II and wife Andrea, Rickie L. Smith and wife Jeanne, Jesse G. Smith, Vincent W. Smith and wife Carol, and Julian L. Smith and wife Patricia; daughters Kathi Mansfield, Connie Carroll and husband Sam, Marilyn Erickson, Kim Spencer and husband James, and Kristi Whitten and husband Lonny; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gene was born on 10, 1933 in White Deer, Texas to the late Eugene Smith and Esther Pauline Matthews. During his lifetime he was involved in several organizations including serving his country in the U.S. Army and retiring after 20 years of service. Gene was a lifelong Mason achieving the status of 32nd degree Master Mason and a member of International Masons as well as a Shriner. He was a corporate firefighter and security officer and also worked for the U.S. Postal Service, Texas Instruments, and Honeywell. He loved hunting, fishing, playing dominoes and cards, enjoying western novels and movies, and traveling by taking cruises with his wife, Gisela who passed away last year. Gene was a Texas Gentleman where his word was his bond. He was well liked by all that knew him and will be missed by all. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of 57 years, Gisela; and a nephew, Anthony Wayne Smith. Obituary: Charles Houston Charlie Smith passed away peacefully on 12, 2015. Charlie was born 8, 1927 in Fentress, Texas to Bernard and Olga Houston Smith. Charlie attended school in Fentress through the seventh grade, and graduated from Lockhart High School in 1943. In 1944, at the age of 17, he joined the United States Navy where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a Signalman, Staff of Flag Officer. Upon discharge from the Navy, he attended the University of Texas at Austin. On 24, 1950, he married Marilyn Kuempel at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pflugerville. recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Charlie is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Jane Smith, Julie Thompson and husband Wayne of Austin; granddaughters, Katie Thompson of Houston, and Elizabeth Thompson of Lubbock; sister, Peggy Dahlstrom and husband Charles of Fredericksburg, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Joyce Wilson and husband Curtis. Charlie worked several years for the Dr. Pepper and 7-Up Bottling Companies. He went to work for the United States Postal Service and retired after 25 years of service in 1988. In retirement, he enjoyed farming and raising cattle on the family farm. He was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council, taught School, and served on various committees. Visitation will be held on , 18th at 12:30 pm with services following at 2:00 pm at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, located at 9700 Anderson Mill Road. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran in Pflugerville. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project. He received his elementary education in Purdon, Texas, and attended Jackson High School in Corsicana, Texas. As a young man he lived and worked in other states and cities before settling in Dallas, Texas in the sixties. He began working for Sparkman/Crane in the early seventies and stayed with them until 2010. He was a very spiritual man that found joy in worshiping with the members of his church of choice. A memorial service will be conducted on , 9, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at the Oakwood Baptist Church, 2154 Loop 337 North New Braunfels, Texas. The family has requested that memorial contributions be given to Able Flight an organization that helps handicapped people to get licensed to fly.
