Obituary: Alice Joan McGoon Sivertsen passed away on 21, 2008. She was born 14, 1926, in San Antonio, to Agnes Narro and Salvador Palacios. She attended E. T. Harris Elementary School, Emerson Middle School and Main Avenue Technical High School. During Joans career at various floral shops including the St. Anthony and the Gunter Hotels, The Flower Hut in Miami, Spiros in New York City and Country Village in Houston, she was known for her beautiful artistry in floral designs. Her work was requested often as she shared stories with her family of creating arrangements for stage and screen stars such as Boris Karloff and Greta Garbo while in New York and arrangements for First Lady Barbara Bush while living in Houston. Joan was a past President of the Cosmopolitan Garden Club, San Fernando Garden Club and San Antonio Garden , where she was deeply committed to the development and growth of the and Botanical Gardens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, R. F. Dic McGoon and David R. Sivertsen; brothers, George and Henry Palacios; nephew, Brian Palacios; and son-in-law, Bill Wiethorn. Joan will be dearly missed by her daughters, Linda Joan McGoon Wiethorn and Terry McGoon Hausman and husband, AJ; son, James McGoon and wife, Kate McLachlan; six grandchildren, Travis and Tyler Wiethorn, Lazar, Keli and Teal Hausman, and Angus McGoon; sisters, Linda Looney and Elizabeth Emerson; brothers, Ralph, Edward, Reynolds and Earnest Palacios; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend special appreciation to Fella, Maggie, Margaret and Gloria for their loving care. Obituary: AUGUST SIVCOSKI Gus Sivcoski, born 18, 1923 in Anderson, TX peacefully went into Gods loving arms on 5, 2015, with family members by his side, in Houston, TX at the age of 92. Gus had the lifelong dedication to Our Lord, faith, family and country. He never wavered from these values. Proceeded in death by wife, Frances, granddaughters Kristen Mathews, Valerie Wolff and fellow brothers in arms, Phil & Gene Sivcoski. His parents Mary and Adam Sivcoski. Survived by sister, Elaine Sivcoski. Gus and Frances raised seven children. The three sons are Jude, wife Rose, Dennis, wife Chris, and Mark. The four daughters are Sharon Mathews, husband Bill, Regina Wolff, husband Karl, Susan Sivcoski and Theresa Kello, husband, Kevin. Gus was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a large extended family. Gus served in WW11 abroad the USS Tripoli until his honorable discharge in 1946. He met and married Frances Stemberger and had 41 years of marriage. Except for 10 years for working in the plumbing business, he worked 30 years in the oil field business. He was involved with the St. Vincent DePaul and church bazaars for many years. He served as the President of the Association of the Knights of Columbus Council 2917, which he was a lifetime member. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, barbequing at home and cooking for many of the Family Days at KC2917. If you never tasted his ribs you have missed out. the passing of his wife, Francis, he moved back to Anderson, TX where he lived for 10 years. He embraced Anderson KC council 4054 and begin cooking for the meetings to increase membership. He said feed them and they would come. Ohh, yes they did. The counsel thrived under the direction and passion for volunteerism. Gus moved back to Houston to the home he shared with Frances. He kindled a 12 years relationship of dancing, traveling and companionship with Regina Jankowski and were together until his passing. The VFW post 581 ceremonial burial detail became the greatest passion for volunteering. He stated many times that he received more from doing the funerals then what he did for the grieving families. Every weekday, rain, hot Texas sun or cold this detail was there for the veterans that passed with a military sendoff of a 21 gun salute of three sets of volleys and the sound of taps. Gus took the challenge of the commander position and somewhere in the 12 years he became the taps bugler. He always stood tall with respect when playing taps. Gus attended every Memorial Day service at the VA cemetery and downtown Houston. These numerous volunteer hours earned Gus the Texas State Council of Knights of Columbus Patriotism Award For his passion to keep God in Prayers at the Veterans . Gus was a bowler for 40 years and enjoyed the many KC bowling trips. He enjoyed fresh and saltwater fishing, hunting and his pecan trees were a great source of accomplishment. Visitation will be held at Earthman Resthaven on , 8, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM. The Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7 PM. The funeral mass is to be held , 9, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman, Houston, TX 77018. In lieu of flowers, please made a donation to the Houston Honor Guard, VFW Post 8905, P.O. Box 2, Cypress, TX 77410. |
