Obituary: James W. Jim Sistrunk, age 66, passed away , 5, 2013. He was born 10, 1947 in Victoria, Texas to the late William E. and Emmie Besetsny Sistrunk.
Jim was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed going to college football and baseball games.
He is survived by his twin brother, Thomas Tom Sistrunk; sister-in-law, Connie K. Sistrunk; nephew, Ronald Kent Sistrunk, all of Victoria; niece Melanie Kregel of Round Rock; and three great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William Ronald Sistrunk.
Visitation will be held 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm , 11, 2013 at Colonial . Graveside Services will be held 10:00 am , 12, 2013 at Resurrection .
Honorary pallbearers include Tom Sistrunk, Ronald Kent Sistrunk, Louise OConnor, Claude Koontz, Robert Koenig, and Adrian Benavides.
The Family would like to thank Louise OConnor for her kindness and generosity extended to Jim throughout the years.

Obituary: Sister M. Stephen Guiry, CCVI, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, Texas passed away on 6, 2016. May she now enjoy the joy of Gods presence for all eternity.

Sister Stephen was born in Finnoe, Ballyhahill, Limerick, Ireland to Patrick and Nora Ahern Guiry. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in May 1948 at St Michaels Convent, Co. Clare, Ireland. Her formation continued upon her arrival at Villa de Matel in , 1949. She made her Perpetual Profession of Vows on 15, 1956.

Sister Stephen attended St. Josephs Hospital School of X-Ray Technology, where she qualified in the field of Radiology. With this qualification, she worked as a technologist at the Congregations sponsored hospitals in Texas, California, and Louisiana. She was proficient in her field and became Radiology Supervisor at St. Mary Hospital, Long Beach, California and Hotel Dieu Hospital, in Beaumont, Texas. At a later date, she was asked to go to Ireland and serve as Religious Superior at Carrigoran House, where she also ministered to the sick and elderly. Upon her return to the U. S., she continued to serve in different areas of ministry at St. Anthony , Houston, Texas; Regis/St. Elizabeth in Waco, Texas; CHRISTUS Saint Mary Medical , Long Beach, CA; and at CHRISTUS St. Joseph Villa in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her spirit of kindness, dedication, compassion, quality of care, and cheerful outlook were generously shared with others.

Sister Stephen is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Guiry, several nieces and nephews.

We wish to extend our thanks to the nursing staff and all who cared for Sister at St. Placidus Convent.

Sister Stephens body will be received at the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa De Matel, 6510 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas at 5:00 P.M. on , 11, 2016, followed by Evening Praise and a celebration of her life. Obituary: Sister Mark Edward Holm, C.V.I., died on 16, 2014. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on 12, 1933.

The same year that Sr. Mark Edward graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in 1950, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament, Houston, Texas. She made her final Profession of Vows on 15, 1956. She received a B.S. Degree from the University of Houston and a M.A. Degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Sister Mark Edward ministered in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and the Dioceses of Beaumont, Corpus Christi and Victoria. She taught in elementary schools; however, most of her teaching career was in high schools - Bishop Byrne in Port Arthur, Texas, and Incarnate Word Academy and Marian in Houston. The highlight of Sisters teaching career was as a Latin teacher at Incarnate Word Academy where her students went on to win local, regional and state awards. She was also the principal of IWA from 1982-1988. She retired from the teaching ministry in 2011. During her many years of service Sister also served as a CCD teacher and worked with the Deaf of the Diocese.

Sister was a highly artistic woman displaying talent in drawing, painting and calligraphy. She loved attending the opera and was an avid reader.

Sister Mark Edward was a caring person for those in need and, particularly, showed great devotion to her mother when she could no longer care for herself. She was a prayerful person devoted to her religious community and to the Church.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Eleanor Holm, and four brothers. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and numerous good friends.

Visitation will be , 17, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., followed by the Wake Service at Incarnate Word Convent, 3400 Bradford Street, Houston, Texas. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the convent Chapel on , 18, 2014 with Rev. Tom Hawxhurst, celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in Forest Park Lawndale .

Obituary: Sister Margaret Mary Flaherty, CCVI, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, died at St. Placidus Convent, Villa de Matel, Houston, TX on 26, 2016. May she enjoy Gods presence for all eternity.

Sr. Margaret Mary was born in 1918 to Timothy and Julia Hayes Flaherty in Ballygibbon, Co. Tipperary, Ireland. She was given the name Julia. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word on 5, 1933 with her sister, Ellen, later to be called Sr. Emily, at St. Michaels Convent, Co. Clare, Ireland. She made Perpetual Profession of Vows to God on 8, 1943 at Villa de Matel, Houston, TX.

Prepared in nursing and in hospital administration, Sr. Margaret Mary served others in many capacities which included the hospital business office to hospital administration in health care facilities of the Congregation: St. Marys Infirmary, Galveston, TX; St. Patrick Hospital, Lake Charles, LA; St. Mary Hospital, Port Arthur, TX; St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, Alexandria, LA; St. Bernardine Hospital, San Bernardino, CA; and assistant administrator in St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, OK. Her leadership skills extended to the formation of the young Sisters as CCVI Director of Novices in Houston and the administrator of Carrigoran , Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co. Clare, Ireland. The treasury office was another area of ministry for Sister in St. Mary, Port Arthur and St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. Later, Sister offered us her prayer as her gift. Sr. Margaret Mary will be remembered for her quiet yet efficient manner of leadership through so many years of her life. Her love was expressed in her works and calm words.

Sr. Margaret Mary is survived by two sisters: Sr. Kathleen Mary, Auckland, New Zealand; and Sr. Monica, Ireland; a sister-in-law, Sheila Flaherty; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, all in Ireland.

Gratitude is extended to all who cared for Sister during her last illness at St. Placidus.

Obituary: Sister Francis Allien, C.V.I. died on 23, 2017. She was a native Houstonian, born to J.B. and Agnes Marie Allien on 12, 1928.

Sister was a graduate of Incarnate Word Academy, Houston, and received a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Masters in Religious Studies from Incarnate Word , San Antonio.

Sister Francis entered the Congregation of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament, Houston, 15, 1946 and made final Profession of Vows on 15, 1952.

During her Ministry, Sister taught elementary school in the Diocese of Beaumont and the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Twenty-three of her forty-seven years of teaching were spent at St. James, Port Arthur and Assumption, Beaumont. retiring from teaching, she was active in helping with health care at the Convent, Houston, until her illness with cancer.

She was proud of her Polish ancestry and enjoyed talking about her Grandmother, listening to her experiences. She was an avid reader, especially of science fiction, and she loved the Houston Astros. She had season tickets for many years and never missed a game on radio. Sister was a very caring and patient person and showed great devotion to family, especially her mother when she could no longer care for herself. She loved visiting with her nieces and nephews, and always enjoyed the holiday celebrations and get-togethers. She was a prayerful person devoted to her religious community and the Church.

Sister Francis was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Betty Ray Taylor. She is survived by her nieces, nephew, cousins, grand-nieces, and many good friends.

Visitation will be , 26, 2017 at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Wake Service at 6:00 p.m. at Incarnate Word Convent, 3400 Bradford Street, Houston, Texas. In 1917 Sr. Finola was born to Thomas and Elizabeth (Sheridan) Quinn in Ballymote, Co. Sligo, Ireland and was named Veronica Elizabeth. Following in the footsteps of her older sister, Sr. Verona, two years later in 1931, Sr. Finola entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word on 11, 1931 at St. Michael Convent, Co. Clare, Ireland. One of her other sisters also entered the convent with her and would become Sr. Therese. On 8, 1942, Sr. Finola consecrated her life to God by Perpetual Profession of Vows at Villa de Matel.

Sr. Finolas ministry of service was in the business and treasurers offices in many of the Congregations sponsored hospitals: St. Joseph, Houston for 22 years; St. Patrick, Lake Charles, LA; St. Bernardine, San Bernardino, CA; St. Mary, Long Beach, CA; Schumpert, Shreveport, LA; St. Elizabeth, Beaumont, TX; St. Michael, Texarkana, AR. Later on, Sister ministered in the pastoral care department at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. From 1995 through 2003 she became the Payments Coordinator at Villa de Matel. Sr. Finola retired from active ministry at 86 to devote her life primarily to prayer. Sister was blessed with good health and an alert mind which she freely and lovingly shared with others in a spirit of hospitality, gentleness, and graciousness to all those she met.

Sr. Finola is survived by many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces. We extend our gratitude to the nursing staff and to all who cared for Sister during her final illness at St. Placidus Convent on the Villa de Matel campus.

Sister Finolas body will be received at Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale St., Houston, TX at: 5:00 PM on May 6, 2015, followed by Evening Praise and a celebration of her life. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at 10:30 AM on May 7, 2015. The Rite of Committal will follow at the Villa de Matel .

Obituary: Sister Enda Marie McDermott, CCVI, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, Texas passed away on 3, 2017. May she enjoy Gods presence whom she loved and served faithfully.

Sister Enda Marie was born in Iniskeen, Co. Monaghan, Ireland to James and Mary Duffy McDermott. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, Texas, in 1949 at St. Michael Convent, Co. Clare, Ireland. She made her Perpetual Profession of Vows on 15, 1957, at Villa de Matel, Houston.

Beginning in 1952, Sister Enda Marie cared for children for two years at St. Josephs , Alexandria, Louisiana and St. Marys , Lafayette, Louisiana. In 1957, after preparing for Perpetual Profession of Vows and completing her nursing studies, Sister ministered as a nurse: St. Marys Hospital, Galveston, Texas; St. Joseph Hospital, Houston, Texas; and Schumpert Medical , Shreveport, Louisiana. Sister served in ministry at the Hospital Nacional, Huehuetenango, Guatemala from 1968 to 1974.

In 1978, after further studies, Sister continued ministering as a nurse at St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana, Arkansas. Then in 1979, she became the pastoral associate director of St. Patrick Hospital, Lake Charles, Louisiana. In 1981, Sister served in ministry as a patient representative at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Beaumont, Texas. In 1982, Sister was missioned to Ireland where she served as a nurse at Carrigoran House. Sister returned to the United States to begin a sabbatical program in 1983 and attended a CPE Program at St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri. one year, she returned to a ministry in nursing at St. Joseph Villa, Salt Lake City, Utah, where she ministered for two years. For the next nineteen years, Sister ministered as a patient representative at the following hospitals: St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana, Arkansas; St. Marys Hospital, Galveston, Texas; and St. Mary Medical , Long Beach, California. many years of active ministry, Sister dedicated her time to prayer at Marian Convent, Villa de Matel in Houston. She continued to volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital, Houston, Texas for some time.

Sister Enda Marie is survived by: a sister, Sister Rose Marie McDermott, CCVI, of Houston, Texas; a sister-in-law, Anne McDermott of Dundalk, Louth, Ireland, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and friends.

Obituary: Sister Audrey Walsh, CCVI, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, TX died on 4, 2015, at St. Anne Convent, Houston, TX. Sr. Audrey was born in 1921 to Charles Walsh and Sarah Newell Walsh in Carrabeg, Headford, Co. Galway, Ireland and was given the name Bridget. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, TX on 16, 1937, at St. Michael Convent, Co. Clare, Ireland. Sr. Audrey consecrated her life to God by perpetual profession of vows on 6, 1947 at Villa de Matel, Houston, Texas.

A registered nurse and degreed medical technologist by profession, Sr. Audrey ministered to Gods people at St. Joseph Hospital, Houston; St. Therese and Hotel Dieu Hospitals in Beaumont as the laboratory supervisor; and then as laboratory supervisor at St. Mary Hospital, Long Beach, CA. Beginning in 1970, Sr. Audrey volunteered to minister to the poor of Huehuetenango, Guatemala at Hospital Nacional as the laboratory supervisor and later in ministry in Guatemala City. In 1983, she was missioned to COAR (Community of Oscar Arnulfo Romero) Zaragoza, El Salvador to care for children orphaned as a result of the violent civil war in the country. Her ministry in El Salvador and Guatemala expanded over 27 years of caring service to the poor and neglected, and she gave of herself to provide others with new life. Upon returning to the U.S., Sr. Audrey served as a patient representative at Regis/St. Elizabeth s, Waco, TX and later as superior at St. Placidus Convent, Houston.

Sr. Audrey is survived by one sister, Mrs. Katie Gannon of Ireland, and several nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. We extend many thanks to all who cared for Sister during her last days.

Sister Audreys body will be received at the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale St., Houston, TX at 5:00 p.m. on , 11, 2015, followed by Evening Praise and a celebration of her life. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel at 10:30 a.m. on , 12, 2015. The Rite of Committal will follow at the Villa de Matel .

Obituary: Sr. Ann Margaret Savant, CCVI, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, died on , 23, 2016. She was born in 1939 to Sidney Henry Savant and Onelia (Chapman) Savant in Fenton, LA, and was named Margaret Merle.

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, TX on 13, 1959 at Villa de Matel. Sr. Ann Margaret consecrated her life to God by Perpetual Profession of vows on 15, 1966.

Sister's professional ministry started in the Business Department and in Finance in the hospitals of St. Frances Cabrini, Alexandria, LA; St. Mary's, Galveston, TX; St. Elizabeth, Beaumont, TX; St. Bernardine, San Bernardino, CA; and Schumpert Medical , Shreveport, LA. From 1981 to 1984, Sr. Ann Margaret was the Systems Analyst in the Sisters of Charity Corporate Office in Houston. Given Sister's many talents and educational opportunities, she ministered to others in the role of Assistant Administrator at St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, Alexandria, LA and as Refugee Ministry Administrator at Refugio del Rio Grande in Harlingen, TX. Her love and care for the poor and the immigrants of Texas expanded in Harlingen to other roles: Pastoral and Administrative Assistant at St. Anthony Parish; Business Manager at Non-Profit Resource Housing Group and Administrative Director of Valley Community Ministries - Loaves & Fishes. The Mayor of Harlingen, TX, Rick Rodriguez, and the Executive Director of Loaves & Fishes recognized her 10-year contribution of service to their community. The Mayor spoke of Sister's "desire and vision to change, for the better, the lives of many of our citizens." Sr. Ann Margaret was the Assistant and then the General Treasurer for the Congregation. Her ministries in later years included: Monica's House in Brownsville, TX; RUAH in Houston, and the Admitting Office at CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital, Lake Charles, LA. A lifetime that was filled to overflowing for concern for the sick, the poor, her Sisters in community, and those in need were the focus of her love and concern.

Sister Ann Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Henry and Onelia Savant, her brother, Sidney Philip Savant, Jr. and her brother-in-law, Willard Anthony Briggs.

Sr. Ann Margaret is survived by her sister, Letha S. Briggs of Lafayette, LA and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Pam Savant, as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. A special thank you is extended to the staff at Saint Placidus Convent for the wonderful care given to her during her illness.

Obituary: Sister Anastasia Thibodeaux, C.V.I. died on 2, 2016. She was born in Cecilia, Louisiana, on 11, 1916. The sixth of nine siblings, one boy and eight girls, she grew up in Port Arthur, Texas, where she received her elementary education.

On 5, 1932, at the age of 15, Sister entered the Congregation of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament in Houston, Texas, and made her final Profession of Vows on May 26, 1938. In 1937 she was joined in the convent by her younger sister, Sister Doloretta.

She received her high school education at Incarnate Word Academy in Houston, her B.A. Degree in Music from Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, and her M.A. Degree from Notre Dame University in Notre Dame, Indiana.

Sister Anastasia ministered as a teacher in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston where she taught at Annunciation School in Houston, St. Joseph's in New Waverly, St. Joseph's in Baytown and many years in the area of theology and music at Incarnate Word Academy in Houston, where she was considered a favorite among the students. When the Diocese of Beaumont was formed, Sister was invited to serve as the first Diocesan Director of Religious Education and the Associate Vocation Director. She chaired the television Talk Show for Catechetical Formation. returning to Houston, she served as the Vicar for Religious for the Diocese of Galveston-Houston.

She served her religious order as a member of the Leadership Team, Director of Formation and Director of the Lay Associates of the Incarnate Word. retiring, Sister continued to provide private spiritual direction, retreat direction and volunteered in the Diocesan Aids Ministry.

Sister Anastasia was a woman who dedicated her life to God and the spread of the Gospel through the use of her talents and gifts, and was an inspiration to those who knew her.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents, George and Theresa Thibodeaux, one brother and seven sisters. She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on 6, 2016 from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. at Incarnate Word Convent, 3400 Bradford Place, Houston, Texas. The Wake Service will begin 6:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be , 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the convent. Rev. Stephen McCrate will be the celebrant. He is presently ministering at St. Louis Church in Winnie. Rite of Committal will follow in Forest Park Lawndale .

Sr. Anastasia's nephews will serve as pallbearers.
