Obituary: Born in Meriden Connecticut, Feb 9, 1921 to Arthur F. Simmons and Cornelia M. Pearsall. Leon F Simmons had a good life. 23 2014 he is with God, his mother, father and other passed loved ones. He entered the army on Dec 17 1942 and fought in both the Italy and Normandy campaigns. discharged from the army, Leon returned to Connecticut as a die sinker setter and tool maker which became his career. He married his wife of 67 years, Lucy, who resides in Little Elm, Texas. Leon and Lucy had two daughters, Leigh and Charlotte while living in Meriden, Ct. While in Connecticut he made sure his family had many family vacations. To mention a few, clam digging in Rhode Island, Washington D.C., Niagara Falls, long weekend scenic and adventurous drives in the country. Most of all he made sure his daughters went to see Santa and his elves at Santa Village. In the search for a even a better life for his wife and young daughters, they moved to Huntington Beach Ca.in 1960. Being a few miles from the beach they enjoyed life in the nice climate which offered a good opportunity for his familys future. His skills as a die and tool maker found him employment quickly with companies in the defense field where he remained employed until retirement in the trade. During his time of employment he would ride 10 miles on his 10 speed bike to/from work each way. He loved yard work and being outdoors. He made sure his home appearance was top of the line. He would grocery shop from a list his wife would make so she wouldn't have to both shop and cook for the family. He also loved bowling with his wife and friends at various bowling alleys in the Orange area. Las Vegas was a must at least twice a year. The first hotel stays were at the Hacienda at the beginning of the strip. Then downtown at the Four Queens, and then the Golden Nugget. He made sure each year the pit bosses and the receptionists were acknowledged with a Christmas gift. He will be deeply missed by his wife Lou, daughters, Leigh and Charlotte. His grandchildren Arthur, Matthew and Michael. Great grandchildren, Jessica and Keaton. Great Great grandchildren, Isabella and Cooper. Per Lee's request, as he put it in a note. Obituary: Lenora Euphemia Simmons (Femie) was born 7, 1924 in Marion, AL. She was raised in a large family and was one of 10 children. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Donald E. Simmons and sons Ronald and Daniel. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susie Simmons Clontz and Ron Clontz, grandson Jason Clontz and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Sue Carnley and Myrna Driskell of Mobile, AL, and her brother, Gilbert and wife Pauline Moody from Virginia Beach, VA. Femie and her husband spent 20 years in the military followed by 20 years with GE traveling extensively for her husband's careers. She was happy being wherever her husband was stationed. "Whither thou goest, I will go". She was a loving Wife, Mother, Sister and Friend. She was an accomplished artist, an avid reader and lover of nature. On her husband's passing in 1992, at their alma mater (Citronelle AL High School), she created a Memorial Scholarship program to assist a senior male and female student with their college choices. She funded this Scholarship for 15 years and by doing so made a difference in 30 students lives. Join us in celebrating her life, , 30th from 4 to 7 P.M. at Colonial , Universal City, TX. Visitation will be held on , 4, 2015 at 1 P.M. and a funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. at Mobile Memorial Gardens . Interment will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens. Ms. Simmons was born 30, 1930 in Houston, TX to Sunshine Elizabeth Amanda Cotten and Golden Gray Simmons. Ms. Simmons was a Director and Owner of Jack Carswell & Co. Directors in Houston. She was a past Worthy Matron, Order of the Eastern Star; Past President Harris Directors Association, and a candidate for 1978 Harris Treasurer, in which she came in 3rd out of 6; served on the Harris Grand Jury and was a licensed private pilot. Ms. Simmons is preceded in death by her son, Jack Hudson Carswell, III; her mother, Sunshine Elizabeth Amanda Cotten Simmons; her father, Golden Gray Simmons; and a brother, Herbert Benton Simmons. He and Ruby Chappell were married May 16, 1952 in Henrietta, Texas. He worked as a Superintendent for Jake Holmes Construction prior to his retirement.
