Obituary: Betty Reid Simmons, 95, passed away Oct. 6, 2013 in Amarillo. She was born 9, 1918 in Cumby Texas to John and Zona simmons. She moved to Frederick Oklahoma at the age of 3 ½ and then the family moved to Springlake Texas in of 1925. Betty graduated from Springlake school in 1935 and attended West Texas State Teachers at Canyon Texas for 2 years. She married Roy Simmons 25, 1937. lived in El Paso for 2 years when she attended El Paso Business . moved back to Springlake and farmed several years then they farmed in Wildorado Texas until 1952 when Betty and children moved to Plainview Texas. She moved to Lubbock in 1963 where Betty was a member of Redbud Baptist Church. Survivors include, son, Roy Simmons Jr. of Lubbock and daughter Brenda Perkins of Vega Texas; grandchildren, Tracy Perkins and wife Sandra of Wildorado, Texas, Sherri Johnson of Vega, Texas; greatgrandchldren Chad Johnson of Vega, Carly Johnson of Lubbock, Hadley Perkins of Canyon and Kelli Perkins of Wildorado. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy Simmons Sr, 7 siblings, son-in-law Regie Perkins, grandson Bobby Johnson. Visitation will be 8, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm in Resthaven Fu-neral . services will be 9 at 10 am in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with burial at 2 pm in Springlake , Springlake Texas. |

Obituary: Services for Betty Jane Simmons, age 85, of Brownwood, will be held 15, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at First Christian Church on 2411 Coggin Avenue in Brown with Pastor Dick Williams officiating, interment to at follow Greenleaf in Brownwood. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. evening at Davis-Morris . Betty passed away on 12, 2011 in Brownwood, Texas Betty was born 06, 1926 in Great Falls, Montana to Carl Edgar and Edna Mabel (Barnes) Steller. Betty was an only child and received a BA Degree in International Relations (Far Eastern Field) from Stanford University, (CA) in 1947. She married Larry Dale Simmons on 29th, 1947 in Ventura, California. marrying, she earned a teaching certificate from UCLA and taught for 12 years in California grade schools. Betty also took several creative writing courses and sold manuscripts to several magazines. In 1968, she moved to Texas with her husband and two sons and became a social worker and worked for 20 years with the Texas Department of Human Services. She retired in 1990 and became a freelance writer, she was active in the Brown Literacy Council teaching adults to read, the First Christian Church, and past-president and member of a Writers Club and critique group. She also gave book reviews and talks about illiteracy to various clubs, furthermore she enjoyed playing bridge. She has over 100 magazine credits, a published poetry book, and stories in several hard cover books. The Midnight Woman is her first novel published in 2001. She is survived by her son, Jim Simmons of Austin, TX; two grandsons, James Harley Simmons of Thrifty, TX, and Colt Cowan; two granddaughters Diane Carr and Christi Spencer; also 6 great-grandchildren, Brenna and Lilly Carr, Conner and Kayle Spencer, Mason and Case Cowan, and one expectant great-grandchild; Helo Carr. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son; Tom and a daughter-in-law, Ann. under the direction of Davis-Morris , Brownwood, TX. |

Obituary: Barbara Jean Simmons, 83, of Newberry MI, passed away on 8, 2017. Barbara was born to Leslie and Pauline Eddy on 24, 1933, in Boyne City MI. Barbara married Ray in Tampa FL on 15, 1961. Barbara enjoyed waking up in the morning, drinking her coffee, and completing her daily crossword puzzle. She was a homemaker, and spent her life as a loving mother, grandmother, and a care taker to all. She loved reading books, but most of all, she loved reading romance novels. Barbara enjoyed traveling and camping across the U.S. with her husband in their motorhome, she has visited 48 states. Barbara was an Elder of The Sault Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Simmons; son, Randy Simmons; and sister, Sally Barker. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Laura Jeanne Simmons Crowder; son, Ryan Simmons; siblings, Joan Karlson, Marie Smith, Bob Eddy, Judy Stucke, Kim Eddy; grandchildren, Collin and Caden Crowder, and Lacey Simmons-Barker; great-granchildren, Bryan Alan II, Brylynn, and Ava Ray Crowder, Aiden Simmons, and Wyatt Barker.
