Obituary: Edward H. Sieb was born on 18, 1927, in Davenport, Iowa, to parents Ella and Hugo Sieb. He was educated in Davenport, Iowa. Edward was interested in sports and was always captain or organizer of athletic teams and earned a minor letter in basketball. He began covering high school sports events for the local paper in ninth grade and in high school he was the sports editor of the school newspaper and yearbook. Later, Edward continued covering sports events for local newspapers. Davenport was the largest high school in the state at the time and had an ROTC unit of 1200 cadets. Edward rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel as battalion commander and received the Chicago Tribune medal as outstanding cadet. He enlisted in the Army during his senior year and entered active service one week after reaching age 18 and graduating from high school. He was sent to the infantry replacement center at Camp Wolters, Texas. basic training he qualified for Infantry Officers Candidate School and sent to the Infantry School at Fort Benning, GA. , where he became on of the youngest officers commissioned in the infantry during the World War II era. Following preliminary assignments at infantry training replacement units, he was one of three American officers assigned to the 65th Puerto Rican Infantry regiment which was returning from service in Italy. There he served three months as a battalion intelligence officer and was then called to take over as Officer on Charge of the Armed Forces Radio Service operation in the Antilles Department. Edward supervised operations at 27 radio stations in the Caribbean theater and earned the Army Commendation ribbon for meritorious service . Edward recreated the 1946 World Series for AFRS. He broadcast the New York Yankee exhibition games and programs with Bob Hope during an area tour. leaving the service, he returned to the Quad-City area and entered ana in Rock Island, Illinois where he earned a BA in journalism. During his four year tenure, he worked as assistant sports editor of the daily newspaper in Davenport and it is here that he met and married Joan Taylor. The two were married on 17, 1950. Two children were born of the marriage; Eric Walter Sieb, Phoenix, AZ and Ellyn Joan Sieb, Beaumont, Texas. Upon college graduation, he accepted a position as assistant in the industrial relations department for International Harvester at its Farmall tractor works which had 7,000 employees. four years, he moved to a public relations position in Fulton, Illinois, with Fidelity Life Association, the life insurance arm of Kemper Insurance, Chicago. He soon advanced to the position of senior vice president of agencies and developed the operation from 50 agents in 8 states to 3,000 agents in 38 states. It was during this period that Edward became active in the Kiwanis and rose to president of the Fulton club and eventually lieutenant governor of the Eastern Iowa-Illinois district of Kiwanis. He also ascended to 32 degree level in the Masonic lodge. Edward accepted a position as senior vice president of agencies for United Family Life Insurance in Atlanta, GA. United Family was sold in three years. He opened his own advertising and consulting firm and was president of Klien-Sieb Advertising, a diverse as and public relations agency and was named political campaign manager for Sam Nunn of Georgia who was running for the United States Senate where he served for 24 years. This led to an expansion of the political campaign management operation and eventual successes in the Congressional elections of Billy Evans, Elliot Levitas, J.R. Rowland and Richard Ray plus many local judgeships, state house, ect. Edward had an active relationship with both President Ford and Reagan. His son, Eric, was on the advance team for President Reagan. Edward was an active member of the Peachtree Presbyterian church, soon to become the largest Presbyterian Church in the United States. He left Peachtree church to help start Northminster Presbyterian church in Roswell, Georgia, an Atlanta suburb. He was ordained an Elder in Northminster church and was involved again involved in sports in Atlanta, including the Little League activities and the championship of Senior League baseball. He administered U.S. Air Force Reserve and Air Force recruiting programs and Navy recruiting program. He handled advertising for Shakeys Pizza Parlors and Dunkin Donuts franchises before relocating to Dallas, in 1983, where he opened a new advertising and marketing facility. He entered the general aviation filed with the start-up of Million Air general aviation service facilities at Addison airport and was instrumental in applying franchise knowledge to Million Air program which resulted in the development of 31 Million Air facilities around the world, making it the largest independent FBO chain in the world. He managed marketing and development operations for Million Air interlink for 18 years and consulted to AMR in the development of their general aviation operations and collaborated in the writing and production of the only book on the market on how to airplanes and published eight books, mainly on aviation in World War II. He published the Dallas Money Source Book and Texas Money Source Book. He also published the Red Book of Aviation, a compendium of 1,200 pages listing all airport and service facilities on Canada, United States, Mexico and the Caribbean. He served for 10 years on the Board of Directors of the aviation museum at Love Field, Dallas. Edward also served on the Board of Directors of Architectural Graphics, Norfolk, VA; Secura Insurance , Atlanta, GA; Million Air Aviation, Dallas, TX; Frontiers of Flight Museum, Dallas, TX , Advisory Boards, Kemper Insurance, Chicago, IL and Federal Kemper Insurance , Boston, MA. Ellie owned and operated the Kiddie Korner Day for over 25 years and was affectionately referred to as Granny by everyone that knew and loved her. Obituary: Sidney Moreland Shaver was born 11, 1925 in Gilliam, LA to James N. and Myrtle G. Shaver and passed away peacefully on 1, 2015. Sidney was preceded in death by Grace, his beloved wife, James, his brother and Elden, his son. He is survived by Wesley, his brother, Christine, his daughter and Sid, his son, Scott, Erin, Allison and Kelli, grandchildren, Jake and Julianna, great grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Growing up he participated in all sports, was an Eagle Scout and loved the outdoors. Later in life he ran marathons and relished fishing trips in Louisiana with relatives, especially Wilfred Danos, his brother in law. He was proud to have served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Scott patrolling the North Atlantic. Later he was called back to service and participated in the Korean War through its entirety. He earned the American Theatre( 1 Star), European Theatre, Victory and Korean, Navy Occupation medals. He truly loved his LSU Tigers and was a devoted alumni and also attended South Texas of Law, attaining many academic awards. Frequently he could be found in some remote location parked, listening to WWL, New Orleans, broadcasting Tiger games. For many years, he worked as a geophysicist for Halliburton, Texaco, Mitchell Energy and Houston Oil & Minerals. He later changed careers working as a hydrologist for Ft. Bend and FEMA on flood control projects. He and Grace lived at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living and the family sincerely appreciates the kindness and care provided to them. The family is also very thankful to Silverado Hospice and the wonderful care extended to our parents. We are very fortunate to his guiding hands upon our lives. - The Family. |
