Obituary: Gladys Bates Sides Mama Gladys, age 96, passed away on 21, 2004. She was born on 28, 1908, in Knox , Texas to Ben Bounds Bates and Ada Mearle Wilson Bates. She was the oldest of eleven children; 9 bothers and 1 sister. As a child, she remembered riding a horse to school and riding in a covered wagon with her family. Her parents and 8 brothers, Coy, Earl, Lois, Floyd, Jr. Dean, Frank, Leon and sister Baby Nelle preceded her in death. She is survived by one brother, Wayne Witt Bates of Centreville, VA. Gladys was a schoolteacher for 10 years and a Civil Service Employee for 22 years. She and her husband, David W. Sides raised a family of 4 in San Antonio, Texas where they lived for 30 years. She and David also enjoyed living in the Philippines for a few years. David, her husband of 64 years preceded her in death in 1992. were members of the First Baptist Church of Marble Falls, Texas. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Joan McCook and her husband, Pete of Lakeway, TX; sons, David L. Sides and wife, Carolyn of Midlothian, TX, William B. Sides and wife, Barbara of Austin, TX; a daughter, Betty Hefner and husband, Wayne of Marble Falls, TX. Gladys had a deep love for her relatives and was a positive Christian influence on all. In addition to her children, Mama Gladys leaves 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren. We were blessed to have her presence in our lives. Gladys died, as she wished, at her daughter BettyÂs residence in Marble Falls, Texas. The family is especially grateful to Seton Hospice for their compassionate care of Gladys. |

Obituary: Falva "Jimmy" Reese Sides was born in Crockett, Texas on 22, 1926 and went to be with our Lord on 29, 2015. Jimmy's younger years were spent in Crockett working on the family farm. He joined the U S Navy in 1944. He came back to Houston after the Navy and worked at the Forum Cafeteria. Jimmy then moved to Gonzales,Texas. and opened the Ritz Cafe with friend Johnny Ritz. Jimmy moved back to Houston in the 1950's and worked truck route selling potato chips to stores. During this time he took a correspondence course to learn how to repair televisions. When he finished the correspondence course he opened Sides Television repair shop which he ran for 30 years. retirement Jimmy spent his time taking care of his rental property and enjoying his boat. He was an auxiliary Harris county Constable for many years, and was a lieutenant in rank when left the organization. He was present during the opening of the Astrodome in 1965 as a reserve constable. Jimmy moved to Channelview, Texas in the 1970's and was a resident there at the time of his passing, he was a member of Dell Dale Baptist Church in Channelview. Preceded in death by his by his mother, Stella Fowler Sides, father, James Columbus Sides, granddaughter, Jamie Sue Sides, brothers, Alvin and Irvin and sister, Nina. Survived by his sons, Survived by his sons, James and wife Bonnie; Jimmy Ray and wife Kim; grandchildren, Kelly, Dena, Julie, Christopher, Michelle, Jonathan, and Lisa; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters: Betty and Vera, brother A.C. and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation with the family began at 1:00 p.m. on , 3, 2015 at Waltrip Directors, where funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. in the Waltrip Chapel. Interment followed in Memorial Oaks . |

Obituary: Ben Sides, 90, passed away at home on Hawkesbury, Ontario, Canada, on May 14, 2015, with his wife, Eleanor, by his side. Visitation and a memorial service will be held , 4, 2015, at Golf Course Road Church of Christ. The visitation will begin at 10 am, with the memorial service following at 11 am. Ben was born on 6, 1924, in Lubbock, Texas, to Christine Barnett Sides and Herman Sides. The eldest of four children, he is survived by his sister, Doris Wahlenmeir. His brothers Billy and Don preceded him in death. Ben was blessed to have two families who loved and adored him. His Texas family includes Wanda, his first wife who passed away in 1986, his daughter Carol Staggs and her husband, Roy, of Midland, his son, Charles Sides of Midland, and his daughter Becky Solley and her husband, Chuck, of Gainesville, Texas. His grandchildren include Carols sons Preston and Alan Willis, Beckys children Bryan and Brandon Lee and Lisa Spurlock with her husband Kyle, and their children Zayn and Dylan and Charles son, B.C. Sides of California. Bens Canadian family includes Eleanor and her sons families: Jim Mullin, his wife Shelley, and their children Liam and Hannah and Brien Mullin, with wife Jennifer Black and their son, Blake. There are many extended family members on both sides of the border who loved him and will remember him fondly. attending Texas Technological , he served in U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He received his Civil Engineering degree in 1947 and began his career with Texas Highway Department. He and Wanda married in 1951 and lived in Andrews and Kermit before to Midland in 1956 when he began working for Atlantic Richfield (ARCO). He retired in 1985 - - and true to his nature, he worked hard at retirement. Wandas passing in 1986, he enjoyed travelling. Whether he went in his Suburban, by air or in his RV, he saw Hawaii, Alaska, England and Disney World with friends, family, and occasionally on his own. His last trip out of Midland, in 1992, took him to Canada. He returned to Midland that year to announce that he was marrying Eleanor and moving to be with her Canada later that year. Although, his Texas family was surprised by the news, they were delighted for him and for Eleanor, a friend of the family. Ben and Eleanor were gracious hosts and became tour guides for their visiting friends and relatives to surrounding and distant locales. Their lovely home in Hawkesbury was a constant hub of family get-togethers, whether they involved Canadians, Texans, or a combination of both. Ben Sides was a hard working, honest gentleman who enjoyed a dry sense of humor and employing his abilities for the edification and enjoyment of his friends and family. Obituary: Ms. Agnes H. Sides died 7th, 2014 in Bartlett at the age of 91. She was born in Granger, Texas on 30, 1922. On 20, 1943 she married Herbert L Sides. Ms. Sides was a member of the First Baptist Church Granger, Texas. She taught School and worked in Vacation Bible School for eighteen years. She was Past Worthy Matron, Granger Chapter #836, order of the Eastern Star. Later she was a member of Taylor Chapter #578, Order of the Easter Star. She was a past president of Xi Chapter, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was a past president of the Granger Business Womens Club. Ms. Sides served as Secretary of the Board of Granger Community Library. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #282, Granger, Texas. Ms. Sides retired from public school teaching after twenty-three years. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and the Williamson Retired Teachers Association. Ms. Sides is survived by one daughter, Monica Martin and two grandsons, Jerald M. Martin, Jr. and wife Tracie and Shawn Lee Martin and wife Ashley. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, J.J. Martin, Shilo Martin, Hayden Martin and Faith Martin; one nephew and three nieces; several great nephews and great nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert L Sides, on 24, 1984; her mother and father, Myrtle Pope Hardin and Ira Edgar Hardin; and her three brothers, Ira E. Hardin, Jr., Edgar Pope Hardin and his wife Margie Hardin and Dalphia Earl Hardin and his wife Dorothy Hardin.
