Obituary: Justin Michael Shank, 28, passed away on 28, 2011 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born to a military family in Frankfurt, Germany, on 13, 1982 to parents, Daniel and Linda Shank. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm , 2, 2011 at the International Church of Nacogdoches Dream , with Pastor Dennis Land officiating. The United States Air Force will be performing military rites and the Patriot Guard Riders will be standing tall and silent on Justins behalf. Justin graduated from Carlsbad High School in New Mexico in 1999. He served his country in the US Air Force as an Air Traffic Control Helper. In 2007, he moved to Nacogdoches and started attending school at Stephen F. Austin State University in 2009, where he was pursuing a degree in Business Management. He is a member of the International Church of Nacogdoches Dream . Through his faith in Jesus Christ, Justin is with his Heavenly Father now. Everyone who knew Justin knew his smile. Ear to ear his smile meant that he never met a stranger. When he entered the room he made the atmosphere better with his humor and his encouraging confidence. He always had a plan for where he was heading and how he was going to get there. Justin had a passion for working on cars and he enjoyed playing and competing in Disc Golf. Many were introduced to the sport because he loved to teach it to others. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him. Obituary: Doris A. Shank, 76, died 5, 2011, in San Antonio, TX, after a 5-year battle with ALS. Ms. Shank was born 13, 1935, in South Willamsport, PA, to Ralph and Eleanor Rathmell. She moved to Mertzon, TX, in 1978. During her years in Mertzon, Doris owned a ceramic shop, ran the community pool, and was a school secretary for Irion ISD. She served as a Girl Scout leader for 42 years and was one of the recipients of the 2008 Woman of Distinction Award bestowed by the Girl Scout Association. She devoted much of her time and energy to the community of Mertzon as well, as a volunteer, teacher, and friend. graduating from high school Doris joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War. She loved music and sang with her dads band. She represented the Air Force when she sang on the Pat Boone Show on WFAA TV in Fort Worth, Texas In addition to her mother, Eleanor (Mammie), she is survived by her sisters, Esther Thorp, and Kay Cillo (Dolf); brother, Ken Rathmell (Anne); daughters, Deb Ivy, Donna Shuey (Bill), and Cathy DeLaughter; sons, Tom Mase (Liz), Scott Steppe (Karla), and Anthony Shank; grandchildren, Wade Ivy, Sara Myers, Ginny Krise, Kelly Shuey, William Shuey, Matt Shuey, Mike Shuey, Doug Mase, Heather Mase, Brian DeLaughter, Jessica Parker, Kensie Yarbrough, Vikki Steppe, Whitney Mull, Krista Muir, and Samantha Shank; and 7 great-grandchildren. Obituary: Today, we mourn the loss of a son, brother, grandson, great-grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. Although we are heartbroken that Garys life ended abruptly on 27, 2012, we want to take this time to celebrate the wonderful person he was and how much of an impact he had on us all. We also want to reflect on the amazing journey of Garys life and how each and every one of us needs to hold on to and cherish these memories. He would want us to remember all of his accomplishments and most importantly his deeply rooted love for all of us. Love is such a small word but yields so much meaning in that it holds us together in a big way. It is okay to hurt, but we should take this time to look at the loving qualities he possessed as a human being. What he will always be to us all, our precious Gary. Gary was born to Gary and Terri Shaner on 24, 1983. He was raised in San Antonio, Texas as well as the Spring Branch/Bulverde, Texas area. He excelled in academics and sports and, despite a traumatic brain injury he sustained from a car accident at the age of 16, he defied all odds. Gary graduated from Smithson Valley High School on 2, 2002 and went on to attend San Antonio and Kaplan where he received a degree with honors as a Medical Office Specialist on 13, 2011. Gary managed to accomplish all of this while working full time. He strived each and every day to achieve every goal that he had. His aspirations were to work in the health field, helping others. Growing up, Gary enjoyed spending time outdoors whether it was swimming, hunting, fishing, golfing, playing football and playing basketball. He was a very competitive young man who enjoyed winning. For countless hours, you could often find Gary shooting hoops in the evening with his dad who worked hard long hours all day but made time for his little man. He was blessed with the gift of words and wrote many poems and letters for his mom, Terri. He was also an amazing artist and found comfort in expressing his feelings through his artistry. His attention to detail is evident in the many works of art contained in his portfolio. Gary was raised in a family of love and a conviction for doing the right thing. He was brought up being reminded each and every day how much he was loved by his father Gary, mother Terri, sister Jill, and brother Clay. Gary enjoyed the times that he was able to spend with both the Shaner and Buske family. He took pleasure in visiting with family and friends where he was able to relax and be himself. He found comfort in reading the Word of God, and was baptized at Concordia Lutheran Church at a young age. He recently had been attending CBC church in San Antonio where he enjoyed fellowship and worship. It is difficult to think about living our lives without Gary being here with us. We will all try to hold on to every single precious memory we have of him and carry on the tradition of loving deeply like Gary did for us.
