Obituary: Montfred "Monty" Benfield Sellers, Jr. of Garland, Texas passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on , 12, 2014.

Monty was born in Houston, Texas on 1, 1941. He is preceded in death by his loving father and mother, Montfred Sr. and Lucille (Lou), his brother Robert, and his grandparents.

Monty is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Sellers, and their four cats, Dilly, Marcia, Lola and Dexter. (Monty knows there is no way I'd leave them out!). He is also survived by his loving daughters: Rebecca Sellers Vandall, her husband Jeffrey, and their children William and Benjamin; Kristen Jackson-Dobson, her husband Jesse, and their son Teagan. His sisters: Michele Hilsher and her husband James (Jimmy), their children Jeff and Phillip and their spouses and children; Mariette Beacom and her husband John, their children Robert, and his wife and children, Ronnie and his child, and John.

Monty is also survived by his loving father- in- law and mother- in- law, Ronald and Sande Combs; and by his loving brother- in- law and sister- in- law, Ronald Jr. and Cindy Combs, along with their daughter Kelly.

Monty is also survived by a host of other loving relatives, friends, and co-workers.

When Monty was a mere 17 year old, he joined the United States Air Force, (he had to get his dad to sign for him!), and was honorably discharged in 1964. He was an extremely proud Veteran and will be honored as a Veteran upon his burial.

As a wife, well, I knew my husband was an outstanding and proud worker, but frankly, I could never quite describe his exact job! I reached out to his former boss and the wonderful Larry Hairston provided me with this, it couldn't be more perfect:

Monty was an integral part of the team at Summit Controls and Vector for almost thirty years. In support of the outside sales team, he was an inside sales specialist for many of the products which the company represented. He would take customer calls, help with selection of the correct product, provide pricing, delivery, and then place the orders with the respective factory. He would then help provide delivery status and when necessary, he would expedite orders in process. Monty also handled most shipping and receiving functions and helped manage inventory of stocked products. He was also known as the "voice" of Summit Contols. However, a very important part of Montys duties, which he fulfilled with the greatest of ease, was keeping everybody entertained."

Monty was a very talented man. He loved to sing and boy could he sing! He was a composer of songs, poems and a guitar player, nobody did it quite like Monty! He was a balsa-wood model airplane maker, and an aficionado in beer, history, especially WWII, music, the bible, books, old-cars, and airplanes. If it had an engine, he was there! He was also the most excellent and consummate joke teller! In fact, if you never heard Monty tell a joke, you may have never actually met Monty Sellers! That reminds me, have you heard the one about the Bell Ringer?

Monty left his mark on the world in many ways; through his children, his grandchildren, his work, as my loving husband, a father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. But, the most outstanding quality Monty Sellers achieved in his life was his ability to be a TRUE FRIEND to ALL. Monty's memory will live on in many, many hearts. I was and am privileged to be his wife. Over the years, many people told Monty he was lucky to have met me. Baby, I know the truth, I was and always will be the LUCKY ONE!

Upon Monty's death, I found in his sock drawer a hand-written excerpt from a song by Ry Cooder from 1988. I have been in that sock drawer a million times, and two days after his death, I found this paper. I believe it is something Monty wanted to impart to me, his family and his friends.

ALWAYS LIFT HIM UP/KANAKA WAI WAI by Ry Cooder (an excerpt):

"When a fella has the blues and feels discouraged and there is nothing else but troubles in his life, do not fail to lend a hand and try to help him.

ALWAYS LIFT HIM UP AND NEVER KNOCK HIM DOWN.

If he cannot pay his debts and feels disgusted, if he's blue and doesn't have a word to say, let him know you are his friend who can be trusted, it would cheer this lonely fellow on his way.

If he's sick and tired of life and takes to drinking, do not pass him by or greet him with a frown, do not fail to lend a hand and try to help him.

ALWAYS LIFT HIM UP AND NEVER KNOCK HIM DOWN."

That was Monty, through and through, never turning his back on anyone and was always there when you needed him. A true gentleman and a true friend. He will remain forever in my heart.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
