Obituary: SEELIGSON Frates Slick Seeligson, born in San Antonio in 1923, died on 28, 2006. He was a graduate of Philips Exeter Academy, Yale University and the University of Texas School of Law. Frates was an historian par excellence, his passion for reading and learning legendary, particularly his knowledge of world and American history. Frates served as a proud member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1953-1960, and throughout his life remained passionate about politics and elections worldwide. Frates made a career of cattle ranching and beef industry promotion. He served as president of Santa Gertrudis Breeders International and president of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association during the 1970s and 80s. He focused on educating consumers about beefÂs nutritive value and versatility in a heart-healthy diet. Recently he helped fundraise for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Foundation to establish a new museum honoring the proud traditions and heritage of the beef industry in Texas. Frates was an avid nature lover, hunter and fisherman. He adored hunting in Africa and was lucky enough to enjoy several safaris from the early 1950s through the early 1970s. He fished whenever and wherever he could, his favorite holes included OregonÂs Deschutes River, Port Mansfield, and the waters off La Jolla. Bags of his freshly-caught fish regularly landed in friends iceboxes, and a lifetime of shared game dinners was lovingly prepared by his wife, Martita. Above all, Frates loved his Quien Sabe Ranch. His passion for the land was infectious, always including family and friends on duck hunts, quail hunts and bass fishing trips. He baited countless hooks, but none made him happier than those of his grandchildrenÂs fishing rods, especially when they pulled in a lunker. A simple drive through the countryside, watching birds, and admiring the beautiful Texas wildflowers was a delight. To follow-up that drive with fried quail and cream gravy was simply icing on his cake. Frates was preceded in death by his parents, Ramona Frates and Arthur Addison Seeligson, and his brother, Arthur Addison Seeligson, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Martita Rice Seeligson, his children and their spouses, Martha Seeligson Gaffney and her husband Paul of Washington D.C., Roxana Seeligson Newsom and her husband Hamlet of San Antonio, and Frates Slick Seeligson, Jr. and his wife Josie of San Antonio. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Margaret Lewis Gaffney, John Edward Gaffney, Nicholas Frates Gaffney, Hamlet Tatum Newsom III, Martha Cecilia Newsom, Frates Seeligson Newsom, Lillian McClelland Seeligson, John Tate Seeligson and Genevieve Frates Seeligson. |

Obituary: MURIEL LORD EASTLACK SEELEY DECEMBER 12, 1936- JANUARY 2, 2015 Muriel Lord Eastlack Seeley died in San Antonio, Texas 2, 2015, at the age of 79. She was born in South Boston, Virginia on 12, 1936 and married Col. Sam T. Seeley in 1956. She accompanied Sam on 22 assignments around the world over a 30-year career and was an amazing mother, raising two beautiful daughters while Sam was away in Vietnam and Korea. Known to all as Mimi, she was an avid reader and a gourmet cook, known for her world famous crab cakes. Mimi and Sams retirement was full of wonderful cruises and adventures. She loved nothing more than spending the winter in Florida with Sam and friends and enjoyed long summers with her family at a beach house in Topsail Island, NC. She is survived by her husband, Col. Sam T. Seeley, U.S. Army (Ret); two daughters, Margaret Seeley Ruffino (Steve Ruffino) Kathleen Seeley Stephens (Charles A. Stephens II) and 5 grandchildren Marilyn Burkholder, Sarah Burkholder, Maggie Stephens Gambrel (Robert Gambrel), Scott Stephens (Elizabeth Stephens), Seeley Stephens, and two great-granddaughters, Seeley Lucille Stephens and Caroline McGowan Gambrel.
