Obituary: Joanne White Schwing Joanne White Schwing, 86, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away , 10, 2015 at New Hope Manor in Cedar Park. She was born on 9, 1928 in Port Arthur, Texas to John Milton White and Olive Triggs White. Joanne was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur and active member of the United Methodist Temple. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and earned a Bachelors degree from Texas Womens University in Denton, Texas. Joanne inspired many young lives as a teacher at Tyrrell and Sam Houston Elementaries in The Port Arthur Independent School District. She was well-known for her role as Miss Joanne on the local affiliate of the childrens TV show Romper Room. Joanne spent much of her life enjoying golf with her husband and friends at the Port Arthur Country Club. She served her church in a number of roles including being a member of the Wesley School class, the administrative board, and the Pastor-Parish Committee. Joanne also served her community though many organizations including The Pleasure Island Commission, The Port Arthur Service League, the Del Mar Garden Club, and the Port Arthur Country Club Womens Golf Association. services will be held at 2:00 p.m., , 15, 2015 at The United Methodist Temple in Port Arthur with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Reverend Cathy Stone of First Methodist Church, Austin will be officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Levingston in Groves. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan H. Schwing, Jr, her brothers John White, William White, Triggs White, and George White, her sister Helen Smith, and her stepmother Chloe Scott, She is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Schwing Hill and husband, David of Lake Jackson, TX, and Jolynn Schwing Greene and husband, Wayne of Cedar Park, TX, grandson, Graydon Henry Hill of Lake Jackson, TX, step grandchildren Kayla Greene and Michael Greene of Cedar Park, TX, sister-in-law, Jo White of Austin, TX, and sister-in-law Lenora White. A special memorial has been established in Joannes name with donations going to the Alzheimers Association and can be accessed at act.alz.org/goto/joannewhiteschwing. Memorial contributions may also be made to the United Methodist Temple in Port Arthur, Texas. |

Obituary: FORT WORTH -- Cmdr. Hallye E. Schwier, 101, passed away , Jan. 6, 2014. Service: 1 p.m. at Polytechnic United Methodist Church, 1310 Collard St., Fort Worth. Interment: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. at Shannon Rose Hill Chapel. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. Hallye was born in Henderson on 30, 1912, to the late Charles and Ethel Johnson. Hallye graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1930 and received B.A. and M.A. degrees from Texas Christian University. She married Harry H. Schwier in 1934 and they lived together until his passing in 2001. Mrs. Schwier joined the United States Coast Guard in 1942 and served on active duty until the end of World War II. She received her commission in 1945 and served in the Coast Guard Reserve for another 25 years, retiring at the rank of commander in 1974. Hallye also worked in the public school system, first as a teacher and later as an administrator, serving as dean of girls at Handley Junior High School before she retired in 1974. She was a life member and active in both the Reserve Officers Association and the Military Order of World Wars. Concurrent with her teaching career and her military service and continuing for many years after, Mrs. Schwier also acquired and managed rental properties with her husband in Fort Worth. Hallye was a longtime active member of Polytechnic United Methodist Church and found great peace sitting in the sanctuary before service as the prelude music played. She was also active through the years in the Fort Worth Women's Club. Her passion for travel stayed with her all her life and she truly loved her annual trips abroad with other retired military officers, many of them lifelong friends. Survivors: Brother-in-law, Harrell Coggins; and great-nephews, Gary and Charles Coleman. |
