Obituary: services for Marilyn Joy Beach Sawyer, 65, of Rosharon, TX formerly of Rayville, LA were held at 11:00 AM, , May 6, 2017 at the Holly Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Bo Horn officiating. Interment followed in the Holly Ridge Baptist under the direction of Brown-Holley , Rayville. Joy was born 7, 1952 and passed away , 27, 2017. Joy was forced to use a wheelchair as her means of movement due to Polio in 1954. She considered wheelchairs the way the rest of us think of shoe. We need them but they don slow us down. She graduated from Holly Ridge High School in 1971 and married Daniel Sawyer that same year. Their marriage lasted 46 years until her death. Her main love was her children and grandchildren. This love was extended to include their friends. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a Rodeo Mom for her daughters and many of their classmates. It was Joy who provided transportation to the neighborhood kids when no one else could. Twenty-five years later, many of those same kids still refer to her as Mom. Joy loved to travel. Some of her favorite memories were of the monuments in Washington D.C., touring the Anasazi Indian cliff dwellings, and dipping her feet in cold mountain streams. Joy was the mainstay of our family. We all depended on her for love, support, counsel, and some of the best home cooking one could hope for. Joy is preceded in death by her parents, A.J. Beach and Marie Fletcher Beach. Survivors include her husband, Daniel Sawyer; daughters, Susan Elizabeth Bruce and Kristine Marie Knight; granddaughters, Sasja Christine Bruce, Cyrina Lisette Bruce, Carrah Ashley Bruce, and Caroline Marie Smith; her brother, Glenn W. Obituary: On May 3rd, 2017 Lynda Jo Sawyer earned her wings and walked with Jesus through the gates of heaven. She was received by joyful family and friends who preceded her, including her beloved father, B.M. Hopkins, sister Susan Standifer, grandparents Annie & Willie Hall and dear friend, Camille McBee.

Lynda Jo Hopkins Sawyer was born on Christmas Eve 1949 surrounded by the pine trees of Henderson, Texas. A joyful child born with a legendary smile, Lynda Jo brought happiness everywhere she went, a trademark she carried her entire life. A renowned majorette at Lake Highlands, Lynda Jo made the “big leagues” at Kilgore Junior , earning a coveted spot on the historic Kilgore Rangerettes, following in her mother’s footsteps and becoming the first mother-daughter legacy in Rangerette history. Upon completion of her two years at KJC, Lynda convinced her parents to send her to Honolulu for her transition term where she studied at the University of Hawaii. Her time in Hawaii would shape her adult life with a devotion to happiness and hard work.

Returning to Texas, Lynda married and successfully raised her three sons, Brad, Blake & Brett. An avid Lake Highlands sports fan, Lynda spent the 80’s and most of the 90’s in the bleachers, cheering (loudly and biasedly!) for her boys and their teams. Like her father, she never missed a game! When her sister passed, Lynda Jo proudly became the “mother” and “grandmother” to; Sarah Beth & Elizabeth; Lindsay, Emily, & Eli; Lance, Zion, & Zoie; and Max.

To support her children, Lynda worked as a florist and then as a program administrator at Interstate Batteries Systems of America, where she retired after nearly three decades of loyal service. Many of her closest friends shared her experience at IBSA, building friendships that endured in loving support by her side up until her final breath.

She is survived by her mother, Peggy Jo Hopkins and her three children; Brad & wife, Shea; Blake & wife, Julie; Brett and wife, Tanessa; and her beloved grandchildren; Graham, Annalee, Caroline, Margaret, Joe, Kinsley, Keira, Kamdyn, Khloe, Elizabeth, Emily, Eli, Zion, & Zoie. Nieces; Sarah Beth Fichtenbaum, Lindsay Anthony & husband, John. Nephews; Lance Standifer & wife, Sheena, Max Standifer & brother-in-law, Wyatt Standifer. Special cousins; Jo & David Velvin & Becky & Jim Jordan.
