Obituary: Carol Safran was born on 9th, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY to parents Gertrude and Benjamin Safran, and brother, Jack. She died in the late evening of 18th, 2015. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Carol formed instantaneous and lasting connections wherever she went: across cultures, languages and the five continents on which she travelled. She cherished journeys off the beaten path and the people she met there. She attended Barnard at the age of 16, and continued on to Harvard, where she earned her Masters in Teaching. She taught high school French, and was once chastised for being elligerent and original, a label she wore with pride. She then joined the NYC Government where she enjoyed the panache and bravado of city politics. She met and married Richard Myers and together they moved from New York to Boston and Boston to Houston. had two boys, Nolan and David, and created a family that loved to talk, tell jokes, and play games late into the night. Plucky and determined, Carol always fought for the best deal. For her family, she negotiated great doctors, schools and vacations. As a grant reviewer, she contributed significantly to charitable organizations throughout Houston. As a college advisor, she helped many young people find and blaze their path. Carol was deeply honored when friends, family, and even strangers, confided in her. Empathic and curious, she made life-long friends at every stage. She was willful and irreverent, bawdy and witty. She loved the ocean and made a point to walk on the beach for hours whenever possible. She truly enjoyed being alive. Obituary: Thelma Inez Conn Safford, 97, passed away 9 2017 in Euless, Texas. A graveside service and burial was held at 10 am , 14 2017, at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park cemetery in Colleyville, Texas, with Chaplain Jeff Nash officiating. were handled by Foust & Son , Grapevine, Texas. Thelma was born in Vernon, Texas to William Frederick and Mary Lucille Laws Conn on 14, 1919. later moved to Roswell New Mexico and she graduated from Roswell High School, earning a music scholarship for French horn. She married Edward Lenfesty Saunders Safford, Jr. on May 4, 1940 in Roswell, NM. In El Paso, Texas, she was active in many civic and charitable organizations; including El Paso Woman’s Club, First Christian Church, and Order of Eastern Star (OES). She also volunteered at the O V Aoy school, one of the first to educate children of migrant workers. Later while living in Houston, she was very active in the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. She also served as Chapter Historian of the San Jacinto Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), documenting both the chapter activities and its historical Pioneer Memorial Log House. She was a descendent of Hiram Bennett and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Nathanial Davis Chapter, Odessa, TX. Thelma is preceded in death by parents Fred and Lucille, spouse Edward Jr., sister Carlyn Simpson, and son Thomas Frederick Safford. Thelma is survived by son Edward L. Safford III and wife Susan: Five grandchildren; Edward L. Safford IV, Valerie Safford Heilweil, Brandon J. Safford, Thomas F.
