Obituary: Wanda Swain, age 78, passed away on 14, 2016 following a brief illness. She was born and raised in Pontotoc, MS, and was the daughter of Herbert and Ruby McWhirter. Following graduation from Algoma High School she left Pontotoc and headed to Memphis at the young age of 17. She later graduated from Ittowamba Junior in Fulton, MS and Mississippi for Women (the W) in Columbus, MS with a business degree. Just after a short 10 years after moving to Memphis she married a young handsome Memphis lawyer and the love of her life, William R. Swain, Jr., on 4, 1965. The consummate businesswoman, her professional life including banking for First Tennessee, operations oversight for her husbands law practice, partner in Progress Realty , and the founder and principal at Swain and Associates commercial collection agency. Wanda considered some of her most enjoyable moments those she spent travelling the world, often utilizing her pilots license to co-pilot for her husband as they flittered about the U.S. and Mexico, and time spent gardening, reading, playing bridge, investing, and spending time with family and friends. Wanda leaves many beloved family members including husband Bill, daughters Teresa McGoldrick and Angela Finerson, grandson Thomas McGoldrick, son-in-law John Paul Finerson, Teresas boyfriend Philip, her sister Ruth Onsby, and her aunt Marie McWhirter. She will be remembered by all as a loving, caring, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. The family cordially invites friends to share remembrances of Mrs. Swain on , 17th from 12 oclock in the afternoon until 2 oclock in the afternoon at Memphis , 5599 Poplar Ave. in Memphis. There will be a graveside service immediately following, directly across the street, at Memorial Park , 5668 Poplar Ave. in Memphis. |

Obituary: SWAIN, Susan Moore, age 62, of Nashville, TN, passed away following a brief battle with cancer on , 17, 2013. Born 2, 1950 in Nashville, TN, she was the daughter of the late William Albert Moore and Bertie Sue Robertson Moore. A devoted wife, mother, professional, and friend, Susan’s was a life spent in service, particularly to family and to those with special needs. She worked as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) for Williamson Schools for over 20 years. Additionally, she spent the last few summers at Claiborne Hughes using her skill set to assist the elderly. She encountered life with unyielding faith, wit, and grace—an eternal optimist who always saw her cup as “half-full” regardless of all circumstances. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, David Lillard Swain; two daughters, Emily Claire Swain of Cane Ridge, TN, and Tracy Cochran and husband Josh Cochran of Cane Ridge, TN; a brother, William Roger Moore of Knoxville, TN; and one grandson, Jacob Wesley Cochran. service will be conducted on 20, 2013, two p.m. at Forest Hills United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Hughes officiating, placement to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family at Woodlawn on from five to eight p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on .
