Obituary: Reuben James Summerlin, 44, died , 6 in Fiji when his bicycle was hit by an oncoming van. Since 2012 he has been Project Manager for Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme based in Suva, Fiji. Born 14, 1970 in Lynchburg, Virginia, Reuben is survived by his wife Diana; daughter Leah; son Isaac ("Ike"); by his parents Phil and Aline Summerlin of Signal Mountain; and Sherry Summerlin and Ron Cohen of Houston, Texas; by his brothers Joshua Summerlin of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; Dan Summerlin of Signal Mountain; and Alex Cohen of Salt Lake City, Utah. Reuben also is survived by nephews Jack, Jake, Evan and Grayson; by a large extended family, and a host of friends and colleagues across the world. Reuben graduated from Red Bank High School in 1989 where in his senior year he was president of the student council. Following his graduation from Memphis State University, Reuben served in the Peace Corps in Kyrgyzstan for two years. He loved the people of Kyrgyzstan and chose to remain there for an additional two years, becoming involved in microfinance benefitting persons in underprivileged circumstances. Then he worked in Haiti for more than a year doing similar work. In 2001 Reuben returned to Chattanooga, married, and worked as an international consultant on matters related to microfinance for the next several years. In 2012 he was chosen by the United Nations to develop and manage a new program in several South Pacific island nations. Reuben and his family then moved to Suva, Fiji, where the program was to be based. It now functions successfully. Reuben was a member of First Christian Church, Chattanooga, and served as an elder prior to moving to Fiji. An athlete, Reuben was a bicyclist, swimmer and runner. He participated in several triathlons, and was a leader in the Cycling Fiji organization. A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, Chattanooga, at a time to be named later when his family has returned to Chattanooga. |

Obituary: Aline Fuselier Summerlin, 76, died of Parkinsons Disease , 4, 2017. Aline spent over 40 years in ministry of various kinds, 37 of those years in hospital chaplaincy work. She was a chaplain with Hospice of Chattanooga for nearly twenty years prior to her retirement at the end of 2013. For the last several of those years she was Director of Pastoral Services. An ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Aline has been an active member at First Christian Church, Chattanooga since moving here with her family in 1985. She has served as an elder and chair of the elders. Alines ministry has included chaplaincy at hospitals in Birmingham, Alabama, Rome and Atlanta, Georgia and Chattanooga. In her early years in Chattanooga she was chaplain at Moccasin Bend Mental . Born 11, 1941 in Oakdale, Louisiana, Aline was the daughter of Linton and Mildred Hamilton Fuselier. Her mother died within a week of Alines birth, so as an infant she became a member of the family of Warren and Lucille Marquez. Mrs. Marquez was a sister to Alines father. The Fuselier and Marquez families lived in the Bond community, a rural area between Oakdale and Mamou. Aline was preceded in death by her birth parents and by all members of the Marquez family in which she grew up. More recently she lost two stepsons, Reuben James Summerlin, killed in a traffic accident in Fiji in 2015 and Daniel Price Summerlin, who died of cancer on 30, 2017. She is survived by her husband, Philip Summerlin; son, Joshua (Sharon) of Santa Rosa Beach, Forida; Dans wife, Scottie of Signal Mountain; Reubens wife, Diana of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Leah, Jack, Jake, Evan and Ike Summerlin. Aline graduated from Northwestern State in Natchitoches, Louisiana and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She worked at the Baptist Student Union at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana. Then for a number of years she was employed by the Womens Missionary Union, first in Alexandria, Louisiana; then in Birmingham, Alabama. completing her chaplaincy training in Birmingham in 1978, she was ordained to ministry in that city at Baptist Church of the Covenant. Later in 1978 she married Phil, thereby instantly becoming not only a wife but stepmom to three young boys whom she helped raise to adulthood. In 1981, after the family moved to Rome, Georgia, Aline and Phil together functioned as co-interim ministers at First Christian Church, Rome, in addition to their work at a local hospital. A memorial service celebrating Alines life will be held at 4 PM on , 17 at First Christian Church, Chattanooga with Rev. Brandon Gilvin officiating. Obituary: Robert W. Summar, a prominent attorney and longtime resident of Chattanooga went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on , 23, 2010. He was born in Old Hickory, Tennessee to the late Lindsay and Lucy Summar. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University and he received his law degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Friendship School Class. He served as Assistant District Attorney in Chattanooga from 1958 to 1965 and then he served as Clerk and Master of Chancery Court in Hamilton and he retired as Clerk of the Supreme Court of Appeals, Knoxville, Tennessee. He was a member of Rivermont Golf Club. He was preceded in death by infant son, Robert Summar Jr. and a daughter, Leslie Goetz. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Summar of Chattanooga; daughter, Lisa DAndrea and her husband Tony DAndrea of Chattanooga; son, Robert W. Summar II and his wife Johnna Summar of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; son-in-law, Mark Goetz; eight grandchildren, John Lee Goetz, Ryan David Goetz, Alexandra Summar Goetz, Caroline Elizabeth DAndrea, Katherine Summar DAndrea, Annalisa Marie DAndrea, Julia Margaret Summar and John Robert Summar. services will be held on at 11:30 a.m. in the East Chapel of Chattanooga with Dr. Bill Owens officiating. Active pallbearers will be Tony DAndrea, Robert W. Summar II, Ryan David Goetz, Wylie Gross, Vernon Duckett, Chancelor Howell and Ed Gravitt. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendship School Class at Ridgedale Baptist Church. Interment will be in Chattanooga National with full military honors.
