Obituary: Winnie Ruth Sproles, 92, went to be with the Lord on ( 10, 2016) at her residence. Winnie was born on 3, 1923 to the late Pierce Samuel & Bertha Garst in Blountville, TN. Winnie was known for her green thumb, seamstress abilities, the great meals she prepared, and being a school teacher. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren. Winnie was a self-made and determined woman. She will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Winnie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dorsey Sproles; four brothers, Wilbur, Paul, J.C., and Sam Garst; and two sisters, Helen and Georgia Jones. Winnie is survived by her loving daughter, Freda Logsdon & husband Richard; two grandchildren, Patricia Ruth Clarke and Richard Stephen Logsdon; six great-grandchildren, Ashley Logsdon, Michael Clarke, Becky Clarke, Vicki Clarke, Krista Clarke, and Colton Logsdon; five great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. The family will receive friends on ( 14, 2016) from 2 to 3 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren (343 Pleasant Hill Road, Blountville, TN 37617). services will immediately follow the visitation at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dan Case officiating. The Committal will be held ( 14, 2016) following the funeral service at Pleasant Hill . Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren (343 Pleasant Hill Road, Blountville, TN 37617). Obituary: Velma “Ruth” Townsend King Sproles, age 90, passed away 9, 2016. Ruth was born 29, 1925 in Sevier , Tennessee. She graduated from Pittman High School and Draughon’s Business School. Ruth married her first love, Floyd King, in 1945 and they made their home in Knoxville and raised four children. were members of Bell Avenue Baptist Church until moving to South Knoxville and becoming members of Island Baptist Church. Floyd’s death on 8, 1990, Ruth attended several bereavement groups where she met Hershel Sproles, whom she married on May 21, 1994. She and Hershel enjoyed attending Island Baptist Church and spent much of their time traveling extensively with senior groups including Top 50 at Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church. Ruth enjoyed a rich life filled with blessings including her family and many special friends. As members of her family, our lives have been greatly enriched by the example of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley, and Litha Reagan Townsend; first husband, Floyd King; grandson Grant Alan Holtzclaw; son, Randall Floyd King; daughter-in-law, Ann Garrison. Survivors include husband, Hershel Sproles; son, Dennis King; daughters, Karen (Jim) Kilday and Angie (Alan) Holtzclaw; grandchildren, Mike King, Melinda (Gary) Allen, Westley King, Ashlee Holtzclaw; siblings, Edna Carr and Allie Townsend; two great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Trinity Hills as well as her caretaker Brenda for their love and special care. The family will receive friends , 12, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Berry , Chapman Highway. A funeral service will be held on , 13, 2016 at 11:00am at Berry , Chapman Highway.
