Obituary: Louisa Mae Sneed, 87, of Hixson passed away , 25, 2017 due to complications from Parkinsons disease. Mrs. Sneed was born in McMinn , Tennessee to Charles and Edith Wilkins. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, and retired from DuPont. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Willah Dean Cline, and two brothers, Jim and John Wilkins. Surviving are her husband of 69 years, Arlin B. Sneed; daughters, Arlene (Stan) Carden of North Chattanooga, and Connie (Joe) Giles of Soddy Daisy; grandchild, Rudy (Kelly) of Richmond; great grandson, Hunter of Knoxville; and special great granddaughter, Ella. The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of Chattanooga from 4-8 , 28. services will be 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Obituary: Mrs. Katie Irene Herston Sneed, 90, former resident of Myers Avenue and Jackson Heights, died , 27, 2014 at Signature . services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. David Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 12:00 noon until time of service at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Riverside United Methodist Church Kitchen Fund, P.O. Box 392, Columbia, TN 38402. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Lauderdale , Alabama native was the fourteenth child of the late David J. Herston and Ella Mitchell Herston. On 5, 1941 she married John Odell Toby Sneed who preceded her in death on 31, 2007. Mrs. Sneed was employed by the City of Columbia as a dispatcher in the Police Department and retired as a Record Clerk. She enjoyed sewing and was a wonderful cook fulfilling her lifelong dream of owning her own restaurant when she opened Katies. Mrs. Sneed was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church where she was active in the Fellowship School Class and the Kitchen Committee. Survivors include her sons, Ronald L. (Mary) Sneed of Columbia, Larry W. Sneed (Katerina Harrington) of Nashville, David Jackson Jack (Jane) Sneed of Franklin; grandchildren, Katie Sneed of Franklin, Tyler (Kate) Sneed and Corey Sneed (Daniel Ramser) both of Columbia; sister-in-law, Christine Barlar of Mt. Pleasant; brothers-in-law, Bobby (Joy) Sneed of Nashville, Donald (Dottie) Sneed of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her thirteen brothers and sisters. Active pallbearers will be Tyler Sneed, Corey Sneed, Mike Sweeney, Todd Sneed, Kevin Hight and Jim Herston. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Gaylon Harris, Faye Hartsfield, Ray Messick, members of Riverside United Methodist Church Fellowship School Class and retired employees of the Columbia Police Department. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Poplar Estates and to the caregivers and nurses of Signature Southeast Hall and Rehab unit. |
